0:00:02 > 0:00:06Hello. This chilly weather is here to stay over the next few days.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08It's not a proper cold snap,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12but it's just about cold enough for some snow as we head into Friday.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14There could be a little bit of disruption,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16particularly across northern parts of the UK.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19First thing on Friday morning, there could be some lying snow across

0:00:19 > 0:00:23the Pennines, the Peak District into northern parts of Wales too.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26We're on the cold side of the jet stream,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29the cold air to the north, the mild air to the south.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32You can see the jet stream is way towards the south of us

0:00:32 > 0:00:36allowing for this cold, Arctic air to flood in across the UK.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38Hence, we will only get some sleet

0:00:38 > 0:00:41and snow showers across the north of the country and a spell

0:00:41 > 0:00:45of perhaps more persistent snow across central areas of the UK.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47This weather front will be very slow moving.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49That means that the wintery weather that

0:00:49 > 0:00:53we get during the course of Friday will be very slow to clear away.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56This is what it looks like first thing in the morning.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59So, for most of us, actually we're dealing with just a rain

0:00:59 > 0:01:03and snow mix. But for some areas, there could be a good dose of snow.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07In one or two places, we could see 5-10cm,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09but the exception will be 10-15cm

0:01:09 > 0:01:11across the upland areas of northern Britain.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14The Peak District, for example, could get a fait bit

0:01:14 > 0:01:15of snow as well.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17We'll stick around with this cold,

0:01:17 > 0:01:21wintery weather across northern parts of England, Wales,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23the north Midlands, right through the course of Friday.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26But take a look at the contrast across the south of the UK.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28We'll get some sunshine in Portsmouth, in London.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Temperatures will briefly touch around 7 to 9 degrees,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34but it will certainly feel a bit colder than that.

0:01:34 > 0:01:35And also, across Scotland,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39we'll continue to see wintery showers for Friday afternoon.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41Now, Friday night into Saturday.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43This weather front, again, very slow to clear.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47That means that Saturday morning, we could be waking up to some pretty

0:01:47 > 0:01:51gloomy, cloudy, rainy weather across East Anglia,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53the East Midlands, into the south-east as well.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57Whereas many western areas will be getting some sunshine.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00That's the sort of weather we'll be getting right through Saturday.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Eventually, Saturday night into Sunday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05that wintery weather front pulls away,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09we see northerly winds coming in, but briefly a ridge,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12a finger of high pressure starts to nudge into the UK.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14So that means that perhaps on Saturday,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16the weather will settle down across central areas of the UK,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19but not for long, because very quickly in the evening, we'll see

0:02:19 > 0:02:22our next weather front potentially bringing some rain,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25sleet and snow to the upland areas of north-western Britain.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28This is what it looks like on Sunday, that finger of high

0:02:28 > 0:02:32pressure continues to build, once one weather front clears away.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36I think on Monday, for northern and western areas of the UK,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38the weather may not be too bad in the afternoon.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40We could see some residual rain

0:02:40 > 0:02:42across the south of the country clearing away,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44but I think on balance,

0:02:44 > 0:02:48a relatively fine day with some brightness around.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51This is what the jet stream is going to be doing mid week.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55It's at a rate of knots, coming off the Atlantic, a westerly jet stream.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58That means it's going to be bringing weather from the west,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00rather than the north.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02SO the thinking is that mid week onwards,

0:03:02 > 0:03:03with high pressure to the south,

0:03:03 > 0:03:07low pressures will be carried by that jet stream bringing

0:03:07 > 0:03:10spells of rain and the suggestion of something a little bit milder.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13So rather than the air coming all the way from the Arctic,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16it looks like the air will be coming in from the north Atlantic.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18So slightly milder, not desperately mild,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20but I think in summary from this cold,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24wintery snap that we've got right now, things are going to turn

0:03:24 > 0:03:28just that little bit breezier with some spells of rain.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Thanks for watching.
