0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. After a snowy end to the week, it'll stay cold

0:00:06 > 0:00:08through the weekend. Whilst the heaviest of the snow

0:00:08 > 0:00:11has cleared away, I wouldn't be surprised

0:00:11 > 0:00:13if we get a few flakes of snow

0:00:13 > 0:00:15across East Anglia and the south-east on Saturday,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17particularly across the hills.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19The Chilterns, for example,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21could see some wet snow first thing.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23The cold air stream

0:00:23 > 0:00:26is with us into Monday.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29You can see all of that blue, the cold air.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30Milder air wants to get in

0:00:30 > 0:00:33but it won't reach us till Wednesday.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35We'll have a look at that later.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38In the short term, with the cold air

0:00:38 > 0:00:40sitting on top of us and this low pressure

0:00:40 > 0:00:43close by, there's always a risk

0:00:43 > 0:00:45of some winteriness. The thinking is,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48during Saturday, it's cloudy, cold,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51and gloomy with outbreaks of rain,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53at times sleet,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56across eastern and south-eastern areas,

0:00:56 > 0:00:57some sleet and snow showers

0:00:57 > 0:00:59on those cold northerly winds

0:00:59 > 0:01:02across Scotland, the Borders, north-east of England,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04but the majority of the UK

0:01:04 > 0:01:06should have a relatively fine day

0:01:06 > 0:01:09with sunny spells. Cold, temperatures around 5 or 6 degrees.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Sunday - the low pressure

0:01:11 > 0:01:14and those sluggishly moving weather fronts

0:01:14 > 0:01:15are still close by,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18still just about nibbling away on East Anglia

0:01:18 > 0:01:19and the south-east,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22so it may still be cloudy and damp

0:01:22 > 0:01:24but it should brighten up.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26There's another weather system

0:01:26 > 0:01:28for Sunday night,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30which could bring a bit of winteriness

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but during the course of Sunday,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34it's looking bright and cold -

0:01:34 > 0:01:364 degrees in Newcastle,

0:01:36 > 0:01:386 for Plymouth.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41On Sunday night into Monday,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43we could see a little rain,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46possibly some winteriness across the hills

0:01:46 > 0:01:49of western parts of the UK

0:01:49 > 0:01:50but Monday itself

0:01:50 > 0:01:54does look as though it should be a mostly dry day,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56probably the last coldish day.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59You can still see the arrows coming in

0:01:59 > 0:02:01from the Arctic, so a nippy day,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03particularly across Scotland,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05but, on balance, it's not going to be

0:02:05 > 0:02:07such a bad day.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09The milder air is in the Atlantic,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11waiting to come our way

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and the hint is in the jet stream.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16This is Monday - the jet stream is coming in from the north,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18but then this dramatic change.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20By the time we get to Tuesday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23it comes in straight from the west,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25from the slightly less cold North Atlantic,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28so this is another way of looking at it.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30This is the wind closer to the surface,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32it's pushing in weather fronts

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and that slightly milder air.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37The really mild air is way towards the south.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39Perhaps outbreaks of rain and thicker cloud

0:02:39 > 0:02:41across western areas.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Those temperatures sluggishly creeping up.

0:02:44 > 0:02:465 degrees across eastern parts of the UK.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49The middle part of the week -

0:02:49 > 0:02:51one weather system crossing across the country.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Just about cold enough for some wintery weather

0:02:54 > 0:02:56across the hills.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Wednesday - we might get to double figures

0:02:59 > 0:03:01across the south of the country,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03but the milder air

0:03:03 > 0:03:07is way towards the west of Ireland at this stage.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10End of the week - high pressure to the south,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13and areas of low pressure coming in off the North Atlantic,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16we get that squeeze of slightly milder air,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19so it comes in off the Atlantic,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22so things will turn that little bit milder.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Real spring is not on the cards just yet,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but at least we'll lose those cold northerly winds

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and the risk of significant snow.
