0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Over the past week or so,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07the weather has had a distinctly wintry flavour to it.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09We've seen temperatures below average

0:00:09 > 0:00:10and some outbreaks of snow as well.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13To start this new week, we stick with that wintry theme at first.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16Further ice and snow at times, but gradually things will start

0:00:16 > 0:00:20to turn a little bit milder and we'll see outbreaks of rain.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23So a bit unsettled, particularly through the middle of the week.

0:00:23 > 0:00:24To start off Monday morning, a hard frost,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26some icy stretches around too.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29A cold northerly wind continues to blow sleet

0:00:29 > 0:00:31and snow showers across Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33there could be a couple of centimetres here.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35Further west also cloudy at times.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Parts of Wales and the south-west of England

0:00:37 > 0:00:38with some wintry flurries.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42But for most places, plenty of that crisp, cold sunshine.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Temperatures at best around 6 or 7 degrees.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48Monday night looks like another cold one, again with a hard frost.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51This approaching weather front will bring some icy conditions

0:00:51 > 0:00:53as well as some hill snow initially,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56which could be heavy across parts of Scotland and northern England too.

0:00:56 > 0:01:00Another cold start to Tuesday with a risk of iciness around too.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Tuesday is dominated by the fact that we've got this front.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06It's moving its way west to east gradually across the country.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Initially, it's going to be falling as snow over

0:01:08 > 0:01:10the higher ground for Scotland and northern England.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13As it heads its way eastwards, it's not particularly active.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14It starts to fragment.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17So, light and patchy rainfall, especially at lower levels.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Perhaps a little bit of hill snow still as it pushes in towards

0:01:19 > 0:01:21the south-east.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Towards the north-west,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24clearer conditions with a few scattered showers.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28And temperatures perhaps just about nudging into double figures

0:01:28 > 0:01:29towards the south-west.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Still around 7 or 8 for most of us.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35we're watching this deepening area of low pressure.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Tight isobars around that as it moves into southern parts of the UK.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42It's quite likely to bring a spell of windy and wet weather to some

0:01:42 > 0:01:44southern, central and eastern parts before gradually easing away

0:01:44 > 0:01:47towards the east later on in the day.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50There could be a little bit of snow on the northern edge of that system,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52mainly falling as rain though.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Again, temperatures on the cool side,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57but not quite as cold as it has been over the past couple of days.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00So, through the middle part of the week, things are looking unsettled.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02We've got potentially some heavy rain,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05especially towards some southern and eastern areas.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Windy too, but still some colder interludes

0:02:07 > 0:02:09and the chance of some frostiness overnight.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12But it's not really until Wednesday night and on into Thursday

0:02:12 > 0:02:16that we start to see this milder air being imported from the south-west.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19So through the day on Thursday, a warm front heads in,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22bringing some rain to the west of the UK.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Further south and east, things should stay largely dry

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and temperatures, in London for instance,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28back up to around 11 degrees.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31A different feel compared with the first part of the week.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33On into Friday.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37High pressure in the Atlantic starts to nudge in across the UK.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39Still a lingering weather front, but things will start to

0:02:39 > 0:02:42quieten down somewhat as we look towards the end of the week.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44The chance of a little bit of rain in the north-west,

0:02:44 > 0:02:48but for most of us, largely cloudy, mainly dry, 13 degrees or so.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Not feeling too bad as we head towards the end of the week.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55On into next weekend as well, we're likely to see high pressure,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58probably out towards the south-east of the UK and that's going to

0:02:58 > 0:03:01lead to a south-westerly flow of reasonably mild air.

0:03:01 > 0:03:02There is a smaller chance,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05though, that this high pressure could become established

0:03:05 > 0:03:07further north, up across Scandinavia,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10which would lead to a colder flow of air piling in from the east.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13But, either way, it does look like high pressure will be in charge.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15So, gradually, things will quieten down.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18It may feel a bit more spring-like as we head towards next weekend.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21In the meanwhile, it's a wintry start to the week, rain at

0:03:21 > 0:03:26times mid week, but things will turn milder and more settled later on.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye-bye.
