0:00:03 > 0:00:06If you were watching yesterday, you'll know I gave you a heads up
0:00:06 > 0:00:09for a significant change in the weather which we're anticipating
0:00:09 > 0:00:11over the week ahead to something a lot drier
0:00:11 > 0:00:14and, boy, do we need it, because Wednesday was a washout for some.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16Flooding rain, for example, across parts of the Midlands.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18This picture taken from a weather watcher in Rutland.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21There was some sunshine, though, not a lot,
0:00:21 > 0:00:24but thankfully, I think, through the week ahead, there'll be
0:00:24 > 0:00:26a lot more of this, than the other,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28in prospect as we'll see.
0:00:28 > 0:00:29Still a little bit of rain
0:00:29 > 0:00:31across the heart of England on Thursday,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33but even that will tend to fade away,
0:00:33 > 0:00:34though this zone through parts
0:00:34 > 0:00:36of the Midlands and southern counties
0:00:36 > 0:00:38and up towards Northumberland
0:00:38 > 0:00:39will stay rather cloudy.
0:00:39 > 0:00:40Now on either side of that
0:00:40 > 0:00:42we'll see a better chance of sunshine.
0:00:42 > 0:00:43A lovely day for most of Scotland,
0:00:43 > 0:00:45parts of Northern Ireland doing OK
0:00:45 > 0:00:47and the more western parts of England
0:00:47 > 0:00:50and West Wales enjoying some sunshine,
0:00:50 > 0:00:51certainly a much better day
0:00:51 > 0:00:53across parts of the West Country
0:00:53 > 0:00:54than we saw on Wednesday.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56Now, further east we'll have that zone
0:00:56 > 0:00:57of thicker cloud, the odd spot
0:00:57 > 0:00:59of drizzle perhaps still left behind
0:00:59 > 0:01:00and underneath that cloud
0:01:00 > 0:01:01it won't be all that warm,
0:01:01 > 0:01:03just 6 degrees, but some sunshine
0:01:03 > 0:01:04further east for East Anglia
0:01:04 > 0:01:05and later the south-east.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07On to Friday, then, a nice day again
0:01:07 > 0:01:09for some of us, particularly across
0:01:09 > 0:01:10parts of England and Wales,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12though still some stubborn areas of cloud
0:01:12 > 0:01:13floating around through
0:01:13 > 0:01:14the heart of England.
0:01:14 > 0:01:15Thickest cloud, though,
0:01:15 > 0:01:17through Northern Ireland and Scotland,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19a weather front bringing some rain
0:01:19 > 0:01:20to the more north-western areas here.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22Now that will push away northwards
0:01:22 > 0:01:24for a time as we hit
0:01:24 > 0:01:25the weekend and with high pressure
0:01:25 > 0:01:27nestling in across most other places,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29plenty of dry weather to come.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32So I'm pretty optimistic if you've got plans for this weekend,
0:01:32 > 0:01:33then we're in good shape.
0:01:33 > 0:01:38A lot of dry weather, some sunshine, still quite chilly by night.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41Where the sky is clear, we could see touches of frost.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43So here's the picture on Saturday, then,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45a lot of the dry weather, particularly
0:01:45 > 0:01:46across England and Wales.
0:01:46 > 0:01:47Northern Ireland and Scotland,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49there's a chance of some rain,
0:01:49 > 0:01:51particularly across the far north-west of Scotland
0:01:51 > 0:01:52where it will be quite breezy.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55Most other places seeing fairly light winds.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57On into Sunday, a similar picture really,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59a lot of dry weather.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01I think the best of any sunshine probably
0:02:01 > 0:02:03across the more southern and eastern areas.
0:02:03 > 0:02:04Further north, more cloud,
0:02:04 > 0:02:05more breeze, but actually
0:02:05 > 0:02:07the higher temperatures will be across
0:02:07 > 0:02:08the more northern areas.
0:02:08 > 0:02:09A cool feed coming off
0:02:09 > 0:02:10the near continent
0:02:10 > 0:02:13and that'll be there on Monday as well.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16Otherwise, weather-wise, plenty of dry weather.
0:02:16 > 0:02:1711 or 12 in the north,
0:02:17 > 0:02:197 or 8 in the south.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Now I mentioned that feed off the continent.
0:02:21 > 0:02:25It's coming in around that area of high pressure.
0:02:25 > 0:02:26These easterly winds,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29they'll be most evident across the southern half of the UK.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31Now if you imagine we were in the middle of winter,
0:02:31 > 0:02:33then this sort of set-up actually would give us
0:02:33 > 0:02:38some very cold weather, bitter winds coming in off a frozen continent,
0:02:38 > 0:02:40but now we're into the early spring,
0:02:40 > 0:02:41the summer's got a bit more oomph to it
0:02:41 > 0:02:43and it's starting to warm up the continent,
0:02:43 > 0:02:47so those easterly winds are not quite so bitter,
0:02:47 > 0:02:50but they'll still feel quite chilly, I think, across more southern areas,
0:02:50 > 0:02:54whereas further north, the winds will be lighter
0:02:54 > 0:02:56and it won't feel quite so cool.
0:02:56 > 0:02:58So that's the set-up through the early part of next week.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00The high pressure there at ground level,
0:03:00 > 0:03:02but if you were watching yesterday,
0:03:02 > 0:03:05you will know that I pointed out the fact that that high pressure
0:03:05 > 0:03:08actually extends all away up through the atmosphere
0:03:08 > 0:03:10and when you've got high pressure right away up through
0:03:10 > 0:03:13the atmosphere like this, it tends to be more stubborn.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15It sticks around for longer, which is
0:03:15 > 0:03:19why I'm fairly confident, actually, that this area of high pressure
0:03:19 > 0:03:20will stick around throughout next week,
0:03:20 > 0:03:22dominating the weather,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24giving as plenty of dry conditions,
0:03:24 > 0:03:25hopefully some sunshine,
0:03:25 > 0:03:27but still that coolish breeze
0:03:27 > 0:03:28across the south.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29That's it.
0:03:29 > 0:03:31I'll update you again tomorrow.
