0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. Well, fans of wet weather should look away now.

0:00:05 > 0:00:06Hopefully I won't lose too many viewers.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09The rest of you, if you'd been watching the broadcast

0:00:09 > 0:00:10over the last few days, you'll know

0:00:10 > 0:00:12I've been promising plenty of dry weather

0:00:12 > 0:00:14in the week ahead. Not to start with,

0:00:14 > 0:00:15for some of us, in fact,

0:00:15 > 0:00:16some dampness turning up across parts

0:00:16 > 0:00:18of Northern Ireland and western Scotland

0:00:18 > 0:00:20during the course of Friday,

0:00:20 > 0:00:21but for the rest of the UK,

0:00:21 > 0:00:22it's a drier prospect.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Here's that patchy rain

0:00:23 > 0:00:25pushing into Northern Ireland

0:00:25 > 0:00:27and western Scotland since the afternoon,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28but eastern Scotland doing OK

0:00:28 > 0:00:30and for England and Wales,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32broken cloud and after that chilly start

0:00:32 > 0:00:33with light winds

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and hopefully some sunshine,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37temperatures will pick up quite nicely,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38we will be knocking on the door

0:00:38 > 0:00:40of double figures in most places.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41So a fine end to the week here

0:00:41 > 0:00:43and that fine theme continues

0:00:43 > 0:00:46into the weekend for the majority.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Some sunshine, it will feel quite springlike at times,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52but it will be a damp start across some northern areas,

0:00:52 > 0:00:53courtesy of a set of weather fronts

0:00:53 > 0:00:54bringing that patchy rain

0:00:54 > 0:00:56which will spread to other parts

0:00:56 > 0:00:57of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and for a time across the Irish Sea

0:00:59 > 0:01:01into the likes of Cumbria

0:01:01 > 0:01:02early on Saturday, no great amounts

0:01:02 > 0:01:04but a disappointing start to the weekend,

0:01:04 > 0:01:05whereas further south

0:01:05 > 0:01:07for the bulk of England and Wales,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09it will be dry again after a chilly start,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10hopefully some sunshine.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11Light winds in the south,

0:01:11 > 0:01:12but quite breezy

0:01:12 > 0:01:14for a time further north.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15Temperatures dependent on

0:01:15 > 0:01:17how much sunshine you see,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18but again knocking

0:01:18 > 0:01:19on the door of double figures

0:01:19 > 0:01:21in the best of any brightness.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Now as we go through

0:01:22 > 0:01:24Saturday night and into Sunday,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26so these weather fronts start to retreat

0:01:26 > 0:01:27back northwards again

0:01:27 > 0:01:30and take most of the rain with them,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32so it's a largely dry story on Sunday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Getting the amounts of cloud right

0:01:34 > 0:01:35will not be easy over

0:01:35 > 0:01:37the next few days, so bear with us.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40There are detailed variations in the amount of sunshine

0:01:40 > 0:01:42but hopefully where you are, you'll see some.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Probably the best of the temperatures, actually,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45later on this week getting across

0:01:45 > 0:01:47northern and western areas,

0:01:47 > 0:01:48possibly up to the low teens.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49Cooler further south

0:01:49 > 0:01:51and the reason for that is we're going to

0:01:51 > 0:01:54start to draw in easterly winds off the near continent.

0:01:54 > 0:01:55If you're watching yesterday,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58I mentioned that the continent isn't desperately cold,

0:01:58 > 0:01:59but it will be quite cool winds

0:01:59 > 0:02:00and it will knock the temperatures

0:02:00 > 0:02:02on the head, particularly

0:02:02 > 0:02:03where you've got exposure to that wind,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06so, for East Anglia, for example, 6 or 7 degrees,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09compared to 11 or 12 across parts of Scotland

0:02:09 > 0:02:10and Northern Ireland, particularly

0:02:10 > 0:02:12if we see some brightness.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Spot the difference, really, on Tuesday.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16We've still got that mostly dry story,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18we've still got those easterly winds

0:02:18 > 0:02:19across the more southern areas

0:02:19 > 0:02:20keeping it relatively cool

0:02:20 > 0:02:22particularly along that east coast

0:02:22 > 0:02:23but, again, in some sunshine

0:02:23 > 0:02:25it shouldn't feel too bad.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Now I'm going to run the sequence through the rest of next week

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and the thing you'll notice is that high pressure dominates

0:02:31 > 0:02:36right the way through next week, slap-bang over us at times.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Now, rain is normally generated by the jet stream,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40so where is the jet stream?

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Well, it's way to the north of us for a start.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46It's bringing some outbreaks of rain across parts

0:02:46 > 0:02:48of Scandinavia later on next week.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51We also have another branch of the jet stream to the south of the UK

0:02:51 > 0:02:55down across southern parts of Europe and into the Mediterranean.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56If you've got friends or family

0:02:56 > 0:02:58heading to the Med later on next week,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00they'll have to take something waterproof

0:03:00 > 0:03:02because this branch of the jet stream

0:03:02 > 0:03:04will bring some very disturbed wet and windy weather

0:03:04 > 0:03:05and also in the mid-Atlantic,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07this little kink in the jet stream

0:03:07 > 0:03:09will generate some wet weather here,

0:03:09 > 0:03:13but for us closer to home we're well away from the jet stream

0:03:13 > 0:03:15and we will remain high and dry, we think,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18for several days to come, for the next week or so,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20and perhaps even longer than that.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22High pressure in control, plenty of dry weather later next week,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24some sunshine, but still

0:03:24 > 0:03:25that chilly breeze

0:03:25 > 0:03:26affecting the south.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27Sarah will update you

0:03:27 > 0:03:29again tomorrow.
