0:00:03 > 0:00:05We've seen a real range of weather over the past week or so.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07This week started off on a wintry note,
0:00:07 > 0:00:09turned wet and windy through the middle of the week
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and now we're ending on a much quieter spell.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14So through the weekend, it's looking dry for most places,
0:00:14 > 0:00:17not everywhere. Some sunshine on offer.
0:00:17 > 0:00:18Rain, at times, in the north-west
0:00:18 > 0:00:21but that will ease through the second half of the weekend.
0:00:21 > 0:00:22And the rain we'll see
0:00:22 > 0:00:24across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland
0:00:24 > 0:00:25is courtesy of this weather front
0:00:25 > 0:00:27heading in towards the north-west.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29High-pressure out to the east of the UK
0:00:29 > 0:00:30dominates the weather,
0:00:30 > 0:00:33particularly across much of England and Wales.
0:00:33 > 0:00:34Through the day on Saturday,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36we start off with some mist and fog patches,
0:00:36 > 0:00:38particularly for central and eastern areas.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40Gradually lifting and clearing through the morning.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Patchy rain for Northern Ireland,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44clearing up through the afternoon,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46but the rain in the west of Scotland could be heavy,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49particularly over the hills. 50mm or so possible here.
0:00:49 > 0:00:50Fairly cloudy at times
0:00:50 > 0:00:52across much of northern England and North Wales, too,
0:00:52 > 0:00:53but further south,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55plenty of sunny spells through Saturday afternoon
0:00:55 > 0:00:58across parts of southern and eastern Wales,
0:00:58 > 0:00:59central and eastern England.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01But after the morning's mist and fog,
0:01:01 > 0:01:04some cloud just lingering on into the afternoon.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06Through Saturday night into Sunday,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08this weather front that delivered patchy rain
0:01:08 > 0:01:10for Northern Ireland and Scotland
0:01:10 > 0:01:11will push its way further north,
0:01:11 > 0:01:13taking those spells of rain with it.
0:01:13 > 0:01:16Things drying out through Sunday across the country.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18Again, likely to see some frost and fogginess
0:01:18 > 0:01:20first thing in the morning. Should clear away.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22And then for the vast majority of places,
0:01:22 > 0:01:23things are looking dry on Sunday.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Temperatures could reach around 13 degrees
0:01:26 > 0:01:27for the likes of Belfast.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29Always a little bit cooler, still single figures,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32towards part of East Anglia and the south-east.
0:01:32 > 0:01:35That's because we are drawing in an easterly breeze,
0:01:35 > 0:01:38moving its way around the south of this area of high pressure.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41But no great changes as we head into the new working week.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44For Monday, again, light winds across much of the country.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47As you can see, things are looking generally dry.
0:01:47 > 0:01:48Variable amounts of cloud.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50Where we see breaks in that cloud, in the shelter,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53we could see temperatures up to around 14 Celsius.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56But things are always cooler where you're exposed to that breeze.
0:01:56 > 0:01:57Perhaps the cloud taking its time
0:01:57 > 0:01:59to thin and break in the south, at times.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01A fairly cool breeze just running along
0:02:01 > 0:02:03to the south of this area of high pressure.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05Taking the edge off the temperatures,
0:02:05 > 0:02:07for some southern and eastern areas.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09But during the day on Tuesday, again,
0:02:09 > 0:02:11no great changes, that high pressure still in charge.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13Things are looking dry across much of the country.
0:02:13 > 0:02:17There'll be some sunshine, especially towards the north-west.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19A similar picture once again on Wednesday.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Could be a bit chilly,
0:02:21 > 0:02:24with some fog patches around first thing, sunny spells.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27Looking dry and temperatures just about nudging double figures
0:02:27 > 0:02:29but feeling cooler in the east.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32Late next week, high pressure, you've got it,
0:02:32 > 0:02:33stays in charge once again.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35Drifts a little bit further northwards.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38This area of high pressure will be particularly large,
0:02:38 > 0:02:39covering a range of latitude.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42So the development of this large area of high pressure
0:02:42 > 0:02:44will lead to something we call an Omega block,
0:02:44 > 0:02:45a blocking pattern in the weather.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47Typically, the jetstream,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49at this latitude in the northern hemisphere,
0:02:49 > 0:02:50runs from west to east.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52There'll be ridges and troughs in this jetstream
0:02:52 > 0:02:54typically delivering areas of low pressure
0:02:54 > 0:02:56and high pressure at times across the UK.
0:02:56 > 0:02:58But what we are seeing in this coming week
0:02:58 > 0:03:00is something called an Omega block.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03A large area of high pressure developing across the country,
0:03:03 > 0:03:07large enough to divert the jetstream towards the north,
0:03:07 > 0:03:10and that will then plunge around the area of high-pressure further south.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12So low-pressure heading towards the Mediterranean.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14Could be quite unsettled here.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16But for the UK, predominantly dry.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18Called an Omega block, of course,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20the jetstream resembles the Greek letter Omega.
0:03:20 > 0:03:21So later next week,
0:03:21 > 0:03:23things are looking predominantly dry.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26Variable amounts of cloud. Some sunshine at times.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28Also a fairly chilly breeze in the south.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30We'll keep you up-to-date right here.
