0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. Our dry week of weather set to continue.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07In fact, Thursday was a beautiful day.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11Lots of spring sunshine and some warmth in the story as well.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14We had numerous glorious Weather Watcher pictures sent in.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17This is just one to illustrate the point in Cambridge,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19hardly a cloud in the sky.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21But the lion's share of the sunshine

0:00:21 > 0:00:23and the warmth was reserved for Braemar

0:00:23 > 0:00:25in the Highlands of Scotland.

0:00:25 > 0:00:2719 degrees, that's 66 Fahrenheit,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30but just down the road, barely 60 miles away in Aberdeen,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34a disappointing cool, grey afternoon with 8 degrees.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35And on the exposed coast,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38temperatures barely above 6 degrees.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42There was a lot of coastal fog. It was cooler here.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44But it does look as though that cloud will continue to be

0:00:44 > 0:00:48a story into Friday's weather, creeping in at the North Sea

0:00:48 > 0:00:50and drifting steadily westwards throughout the day.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53It's going to be a cooler, cloudier scenario through Friday.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56The best of the sunshine, really reserved for

0:00:56 > 0:00:59just the west-facing coast and Northern Ireland.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Highest values perhaps of around 11 degrees, feeling cooler

0:01:01 > 0:01:04and disappointing with the cloud thick enough for the odd

0:01:04 > 0:01:07spot or two of drizzle along North Sea coasts.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10The high pressure that has been in the driving seat for so long,

0:01:10 > 0:01:14starts to drift its way steadily south and west.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17That marks a change to continue as we move into the weekend.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Certainly, it's going to be

0:01:18 > 0:01:21a cloudy theme as we move towards the weekend.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Predominantly dry,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25but all the time that cloud thick enough perhaps for the odd

0:01:25 > 0:01:27spot or two of drizzle, the breeze more of an issue

0:01:27 > 0:01:30and a cooler feel across the south-east.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But predominantly dry on Saturday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36The high then starts to allow a few weather fronts to push in

0:01:36 > 0:01:37to the far north and west.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40So some subtle changes to come for the second half of the weekend.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43The winds will strengthen in the far north-west

0:01:43 > 0:01:46and that's going to introduce the risk of a few scattered showers,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48something we've not seen for a time

0:01:48 > 0:01:52and certainly a noticeably cooler feel generally across Scotland,

0:01:52 > 0:01:53highs of 7 to 10 degrees.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55The winds strengthen again into Monday

0:01:55 > 0:01:58and we could see more significant outbreaks of showery rain

0:01:58 > 0:02:00into the far north and west by the end of the day.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05But, predominantly still a quiet, dry but overcast story.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08That weather front will just squeeze its way

0:02:08 > 0:02:11potentially across the UK during Wednesday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15Subject to change, but there is the potential for a subtle,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17slow change to develop through the middle of the week,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19with outbreaks of showery rain.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22So it's a subtle change across the UK.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Where is this change coming from?

0:02:23 > 0:02:27We need to look towards the United States where there is nothing

0:02:27 > 0:02:29subtle about the weather story into next week.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32There's the potential for a cold northeaster,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35a snowstorm may be moving its way through the Great Lakes

0:02:35 > 0:02:39before a plume of warm air moves in from the south-west.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42These boundaries between the cold and warm air,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44that's where the jet stream is lying.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47That, really, is going to inject some oomph,

0:02:47 > 0:02:51some power into the jet stream perhaps across the Atlantic.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Which means that we could start to see a change in this

0:02:55 > 0:02:56blocking pattern that we've had for so long.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59This week, we've had this high pressure in control,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01but this oomph, this energy,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04is just going to allow the jet stream to amplify,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06to squeeze a little bit closer together

0:03:06 > 0:03:10and allow the high pressure to continue to drift west, which means

0:03:10 > 0:03:14that we might see the winds increase and the risk of more showers.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18I'm sure it's not escaped your attention that the end

0:03:18 > 0:03:20of our 8 to 10 day period is the Easter weekend.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23So, that means that there is an increasing risk, potentially,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24of some rain.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27It's not all doom and gloom, there should be some spring sunshine

0:03:27 > 0:03:30to come, but it will continue to feel on the chilly side
