0:00:02 > 0:00:05You know, there's huge uncertainty in the evolution of our weather

0:00:05 > 0:00:07next weekend, as we'll see in a moment -

0:00:07 > 0:00:10but one thing I'm confident about, we won't see anything quite as wild

0:00:10 > 0:00:11as we've seen over the last day or so.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Let's have a quick recap courtesy of some of our weather-watchers

0:00:14 > 0:00:16sending in their pictures - uprooted trees,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19there was disruption to power supplies, of course,

0:00:19 > 0:00:20there was flooding rains,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and some places saw some significant snowfall -

0:00:22 > 0:00:25and perhaps you have your own tale to tell.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Katie, of course, was the culprit.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29It tore right across the heart of the UK,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31the heavy rains delivered by this swirl in the cloud,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35the strongest winds to the south of the storm's centre -

0:00:35 > 0:00:38but Katie has whistled out into the North Sea,

0:00:38 > 0:00:41and things are returning back to normal, because in the wake of that,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43OK, we've got some fronts coming in,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45but nothing too severe,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and although there will be breezy conditions at times,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50the winds shouldn't be too damaging, either.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53This is the way we start the day on Tuesday -

0:00:53 > 0:00:55sunshine and showers, a brisk old wind,

0:00:55 > 0:00:56and some of these could be quite heavy,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59but they shouldn't last all that long before some wetter

0:00:59 > 0:01:01weather gets into parts of Wales and western England.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Some of the best of the sunshine actually further north -

0:01:04 > 0:01:05there will be a peppering of showers,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08wintry showers up over the Highlands of Scotland,

0:01:08 > 0:01:09but nothing too extreme,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and there'll be some sunshine in between for Scotland

0:01:11 > 0:01:13and Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Temperatures at 6s and 7s, so, not desperately warm,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but in the sunshine, shouldn't feel too bad.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Some sunshine, too,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22for eastern parts of England before this arc of wetter weather

0:01:22 > 0:01:25spirals in across Wales and western England -

0:01:25 > 0:01:27its exact position a little bit uncertain,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29but there will be a bit of snow mixed in

0:01:29 > 0:01:32up over the Welsh mountains - and quite a gusty wind, too.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33So, the spell of wet and windy weather

0:01:33 > 0:01:36quickly makes it way across other parts of England and Wales

0:01:36 > 0:01:38before clearer skies follow on behind -

0:01:38 > 0:01:40it could be quite a chilly, maybe a frosty start

0:01:40 > 0:01:41in some places on Wednesday,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44but bags of sunshine, actually, on offer on Wednesday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46and although there'll be a few showers dotted around,

0:01:46 > 0:01:47many of us will be dry.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50No heatwave, but in the sunshine, and with light winds,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52it should feel pretty pleasant, I reckon.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55That really does sum up things as we change the month.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Lighter winds, we'll always see some sunshine,

0:01:58 > 0:02:02and there'll be a few April showers scattered around as well.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Mind you, the nights will still be quite chilly -

0:02:05 > 0:02:07in actual fact, we'll see frost

0:02:07 > 0:02:09across more northern and central parts of the UK,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11so, gardeners take note of that -

0:02:11 > 0:02:13we will see some pretty chilly nights.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15How long does the drier weather last?

0:02:15 > 0:02:16Well, across the more southern

0:02:16 > 0:02:19and eastern areas it might last into the weekend, at least,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22but further north-west this set of fronts comes in,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24bringing a rather wet and windy end to the week

0:02:24 > 0:02:26across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27Some heavy rain, some strong winds,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29but not damaging winds, we think.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31In contrast, further south and east it'll be drier,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33it'll be brighter, it'll be warmer, too,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35temperatures getting up into the low teens -

0:02:35 > 0:02:38and it could well be that that front kind of stalls

0:02:38 > 0:02:40across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and it may begin to head back northwards again,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44whereas, for England and Wales, another dry day,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and temperatures again on the rise,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49the wind starting to come in off the near continent -

0:02:49 > 0:02:50the near continent, at this time of year,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53is beginning to warm up, so if you get those winds

0:02:53 > 0:02:56coming in from the south-east, temperatures will rise.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59How long's it going to last? Well, that all hinges on the jet stream.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02You've got this little kink in the jet stream at the weekend,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05that's delivering those warmer south-easterly winds.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08However, it does look as if the jet's going to get a move on again,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10supercharged out of the USA,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13and that's probably going to iron out that kink in the jet stream,

0:03:13 > 0:03:17which does mean that any warmth will probably be quite temporary.

0:03:17 > 0:03:18Watch this space,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21because the computer models are pretty uncertain,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24but it's unlikely to last before that jet stream brings in more rain

0:03:24 > 0:03:27from the west and temperatures will begin to ease down again.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I'll update you again tomorrow.
