0:00:03 > 0:00:06Well, for most of us it's turning into a coolish end

0:00:06 > 0:00:07to what's been a coolish month.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09What chance of some warmth as we head into April?

0:00:09 > 0:00:12Well, stay tuned - for some us, I've got a bit of good news.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Not much sign of warmth, really, at the moment,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16because the jet stream is to the south of us,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19and when we lie to the north of the jet stream,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21we're very much on the chilly side of things -

0:00:21 > 0:00:24in fact, it's been cold enough over the last couple of days

0:00:24 > 0:00:26for some snow in the showers, and a similar story on Wednesday -

0:00:26 > 0:00:28up over the highest ground, a bit of wintriness.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30There will be a scattering of showers around,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33but having said that, there's a good chance

0:00:33 > 0:00:35that where you are you'll avoid the showers

0:00:35 > 0:00:37and continue to see some fine weather.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Here's a snapshot mid-afternoon.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41You see the showers dotted around, and, yes, bit of the white stuff

0:00:41 > 0:00:42up over the Northern Pennines

0:00:42 > 0:00:45and perhaps the Scottish Highlands, as well,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47but some large spaces in between the showers,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49indicating that there's a good chance

0:00:49 > 0:00:51that, where you are, you will stay dry.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52Not exactly warm -

0:00:52 > 0:00:559 or 10 degrees in the sunnier spells,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57but, when the showers come along,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00those temperatures fall away by several degrees,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03and it feels distinctly chilly, with the wind picking up, as well.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Now, compared to Tuesday afternoon,

0:01:05 > 0:01:06when we saw a lot of heavy rain

0:01:06 > 0:01:09sweeping across Wales and south-west England,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10I think it will be a brighter affair -

0:01:10 > 0:01:14not ruling out the odd shower, but plenty of sunshine mixed in, too.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Sunshine and showers across south-east England and East Anglia.

0:01:17 > 0:01:2012 degrees at best in the London area.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Not as warm as it will be in the subcontinent,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25with the World T20 semifinals taking place for the women

0:01:25 > 0:01:27and for the men, England involved.

0:01:27 > 0:01:33Hot and sweaty - 27 degrees even in the night-time in New Delhi.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Nothing like 27 degrees back home overnight -

0:01:35 > 0:01:39in fact, as we go through Wednesday night and into Thursday morning,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41many places will be having a frost.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43This could well be the scene where you are on Thursday morning.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45A cold and frosty start -

0:01:45 > 0:01:46but at this time of year, of course,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49the sun is rising ever earlier, so, soon warming up.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52In fact, Thursday's looking like a nice day.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53Still one or two showers around,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55particularly across the more northern areas,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57but they'll be few and far between, and, for most of us,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00a lot of sunshine and light winds. It'll feel a bit more like it.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02How long does it last?

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Well, for many of us, not that long -

0:02:04 > 0:02:06in fact, another front pushes into Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09It tries to head southwards from Friday into Saturday,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and then it heads back northwards again -

0:02:11 > 0:02:13it does mean that the northern half of the UK

0:02:13 > 0:02:15can expect to see quite a lot of rain

0:02:15 > 0:02:17as we head into the weekend.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19In contrast, further south, the rain never arrives,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22and, in any brightness, it'll feel quite pleasant

0:02:22 > 0:02:24across the south-east, approaching the mid teens.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Now, from Saturday into Sunday,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28that front continues to head its way northwards,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30taking the rain with it,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32an area of low pressure developing out west,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34so it's more northern and western areas

0:02:34 > 0:02:36which are likely to catch most of the rain,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39and that'll keep the temperatures down across these areas -

0:02:39 > 0:02:41perhaps no more than 10-12 degrees.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43However, further south and east,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45particularly if we see some sunshine,

0:02:45 > 0:02:49we could get up into the mid - possibly high - teens.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52We're going to briefly, perhaps, start to import air

0:02:52 > 0:02:55up from near continent - a little dome of warmth.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58How long it lasts as we go into next week

0:02:58 > 0:03:00is still very much open to question,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02but it does look as if the jet stream's going to start

0:03:02 > 0:03:05to power in again from the Atlantic,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08push that little plume of warmth eastwards,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and things kind of revert back to normal again

0:03:11 > 0:03:12with those westerly winds,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15that strong jet stream delivering some outbreaks of rain again.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17So, to sum up next week,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19any plume of warmth from the continent

0:03:19 > 0:03:21probably not lasting all that long -

0:03:21 > 0:03:22watch this space -

0:03:22 > 0:03:24but it looks as if the westerlies will return

0:03:24 > 0:03:27and start to cool off again during the course of next week.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Alex Deakin will update you again tomorrow.
