0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's warming up for most of us over the next few days,

0:00:05 > 0:00:06but spring can be fickle.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09And the warming weather may well not last.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11Beyond next week, it may well turn colder again.

0:00:11 > 0:00:12More on that in a moment.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16First, let's focus on this rather stubborn, slow-moving weather front.

0:00:16 > 0:00:17It drove southwards on Friday

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and, during Saturday, is pushing back further north.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Across northern England and Wales, after a wet start,

0:00:23 > 0:00:24it should turn a little drier.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27The rain creeping back into central and southern Scotland

0:00:27 > 0:00:28and Northern Ireland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Never too far away from the south-west.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Much of northern Scotland, bar the odd shower, dry and bright.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36And the bulk of England and Wales seeing some hazy sunshine.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39And temperatures climbing. More widely into the teens on Saturday.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42It will still be pretty chilly, though, under that rain band.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44That tracks further northwards during Saturday evening,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and showers arrive across the south-east,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49pushing north across eastern England, into eastern Scotland,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51during the early hours of Sunday.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Sunday is a real mess.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56The dominant feature is low-pressure systems,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58but notice how they're all moving northwards,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01which means our air is coming up from the south.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04So we are still importing relatively warm air

0:01:04 > 0:01:07through the second half of the weekend in particular,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09which means, in some sunshine,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11temperatures could get to 17 or 18 on Sunday.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13But will we see the sunshine? Not everywhere will.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15There'll still be weather fronts

0:01:15 > 0:01:17bringing showery rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19scattered showers elsewhere.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22After a misty, murky start, some places will see a bit of sun.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23And as I said, if we do,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26temperatures could easily get to 18 Celsius.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Low-pressure systems, weather fronts,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30continue to dominate into Monday,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but it's a very wish-washy, messy scenario.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35This area of low pressure could be a little bit further east.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37It will bring some warmth again,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40but also with the warmth comes the moisture,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42and some heavy rain is possible on Monday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Most likely across eastern areas

0:01:44 > 0:01:47as that low pressure system works its way out into the North Sea.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49It's still close by on Tuesday.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Again, pinning down the detail is going to be difficult

0:01:52 > 0:01:54with these slow-moving weather systems.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57But expect some rain, still, across the north-east on Tuesday,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59showers elsewhere.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Still on Tuesday, though, relatively mild,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03certainly compared to recent days,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05with temperatures widely into double figures

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and some getting into the teens.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Then the weather becomes a little more straightforward

0:02:10 > 0:02:12from the middle of the week onwards.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14We're back to more classic situations

0:02:14 > 0:02:16with weather fronts pushing in off the Atlantic on Wednesday.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Again, the timing of this rain band may vary,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21but we're back to weather fronts moving through,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Cooler air following on behind.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27That cooler air will then dominate for the latter half of next week

0:02:27 > 0:02:29as this area of low pressure takes control.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Certainly sitting close by, if not over the UK,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and with the low-pressure in this position,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37well, having had the winds from the south this weekend,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39the winds likely to be coming down from the north

0:02:39 > 0:02:42by the middle or latter part of next weekend.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45So, yes, it does get a bit warmer over the next few days,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47but it's only a brief warming.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50The colder air, the blue colours, gripping the map once more.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52From midweek onwards,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55temperatures likely to be back down to single figures in many places,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57below average, certainly.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59All to do with the jet stream, turning westerly

0:02:59 > 0:03:01and then driving to the south of the UK.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03We're on the cold side of the jet,

0:03:03 > 0:03:07and that jet may well mean low-pressure systems are close by.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10When that happens, well, the weather is always going to be unsettled

0:03:10 > 0:03:12to say the least.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15Low-pressure systems, of course, bringing outbreaks of rain.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17So, yes, the main themes next week,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19after a brief warming spell, it turns colder again.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23Expect rain, snow on the hills, and the winds to be picking up as well.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25After a brief hit of spring,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28hints of winter returning for next weekend.
