0:00:02 > 0:00:03Thanks for tuning in.

0:00:03 > 0:00:06Time to update you with what the weather is up to over

0:00:06 > 0:00:07the next week or so.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09We started the week on a very changeable note -

0:00:09 > 0:00:12lots of big downpours with some thunder and lightning - and further

0:00:12 > 0:00:15heavy showers likely through the middle part of the week.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Looks as though we will have a bit of a break on Tuesday,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19in fact some sunshine on the way,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21particularly across the south of the country.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24The morning starts off soggy across Scotland but the south already,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27first thing in the morning, there will be plenty of brightness around.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Whether you live in Wales or the south-west of England

0:00:30 > 0:00:33or East Anglia, the Midlands, it is not looking bad at all -

0:00:33 > 0:00:35fairly similar weather with just scattered clouds.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37The further north you go,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40we still have the leftovers from the rain that we would have had

0:00:40 > 0:00:44during Monday, so I think a pretty damp start across most of Scotland.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But notice that Northern Ireland isn't looking too bad,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49apart from the odd shower. This mass of cloud and rain

0:00:49 > 0:00:53will eventually shift out into the north Sea, so that means

0:00:53 > 0:00:56that sunshine will eventually reach the lowlands of Scotland.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59I think particularly the Western Isles, Glasgow

0:00:59 > 0:01:02and the south-west of Scotland is likely to get the sunshine.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Cumbria too, much of Yorkshire, and further south

0:01:05 > 0:01:08we have got that sunny weather on the way for Tuesday.

0:01:08 > 0:01:1016 degrees, I think the top temperature in London,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13more like 11 or 12 a little bit further north.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17So, after that brief break of drier weather on Tuesday,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Wednesday is back to square one,

0:01:19 > 0:01:23back to those April showers with weather fronts crossing the UK -

0:01:23 > 0:01:25or one at least - and also a shot of colder air

0:01:25 > 0:01:27coming in from the North Atlantic.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30So a real mixed bag on the way on Wednesday -

0:01:30 > 0:01:33sunshine, a heavy downpour, crack of thunder,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35some hail, sunshine again -

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and it will just go round and round the clock through the day

0:01:38 > 0:01:41with that sort of changeable weather.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Now, Thursday we still have chilly air stuck over us.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47It is still fairly breezy, so I think another changeable day

0:01:47 > 0:01:50on Thursday with further showers, although I think the winds

0:01:50 > 0:01:54on Thursday will be just a little bit lighter compared to Wednesday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58So perhaps not as blustery, but still plenty of showers about.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Towards the end of the week, this weather front is expected to

0:02:01 > 0:02:04bring some rain to south-western areas of the UK.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06So the driest of the weather on Friday is likely to be

0:02:06 > 0:02:08further north and east.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12And that rain, well, exactly when it arrives is still open to some

0:02:12 > 0:02:16uncertainty but it does look as though it is this south-western

0:02:16 > 0:02:19portion of the UK that is likely to get some rain on Friday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21And then come the weekend, with a weather front close by,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23with low pressure close by,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26there is always going to be a risk of some rain.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28In fact, this is what the jet stream looks like.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31It dips all the way from Greenland, dips further southwards.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33This is the warm side of the jet stream,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35this is the cold side of the jet stream.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37We are in that slightly colder air.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40We have got low pressure over us, weather fronts,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41so hence the risk of rain.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Notice that those weather fronts are affecting southern areas

0:02:44 > 0:02:47of the UK, so anywhere from Wales south-westwards

0:02:47 > 0:02:48you are likely to catch the rain.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51That area of low pressure, schematically, looking at it,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55next week it's likely to hang around, almost come to a halt,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58anchor itself to the south-west of the UK.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And, yes, some of the winds may be coming in from the south.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Relatively mildish air but not all that mild,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06there is likely to be a lot of cloud, rain,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08a bit of sunshine around for sure.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12But generally speaking, because we are on that cold side

0:03:12 > 0:03:16of the jet stream that I explained, once we get the clear spells during

0:03:16 > 0:03:19the course of the night it is actually going to be quite chilly.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So very unsettled next week.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24There will be some rain at times, a bit of sunshine during the day

0:03:24 > 0:03:27and where the sky is clear it is going to be quite chilly.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's it, you're up to date.
