0:00:03 > 0:00:06Good evening. It's time to look further ahead with the forecast,
0:00:06 > 0:00:12to look at the trends for the next 6 to 10 days.
0:00:12 > 0:00:16is the weekend forecast.
0:00:16 > 0:00:25Behind it, the low pressure that brings the rain
0:00:25 > 0:00:27with hill snow clearing away.
0:00:27 > 0:00:28Wintry showers follow.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30So ice will be a concern on Saturday morning,
0:00:30 > 0:00:35particularly in Northern Ireland,
0:00:35 > 0:00:44coming as hail, sleet and snow over the hills,
0:00:44 > 0:00:45and it drags its heels
0:00:45 > 0:00:47for East Anglia and the south-east.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Further west, even the moors of the West Country
0:00:50 > 0:00:52could see a smattering of snow on them,
0:00:52 > 0:00:54as could parts of the mountains of Wales.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56So it's a wintry mix. It will feel chilly,
0:00:56 > 0:00:59particularly in the showers
0:00:59 > 0:01:03but outside, the April sun is now getting quite strong.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05the showers tend to fade away a little.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08The rain still lingers in the north
0:01:08 > 0:01:10that wind picking up in the south-west.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12Unusually windy with gale-force winds to come here
0:01:12 > 0:01:14holding the temperature up.
0:01:14 > 0:01:18Elsewhere, it will be a cold night,
0:01:18 > 0:01:19even some ice.
0:01:19 > 0:01:20So, Sunday is a tale
0:01:20 > 0:01:22of three thirds, if you like.
0:01:22 > 0:01:24Rain in the north and east,
0:01:24 > 0:01:27rain and very windy weather in the south and west
0:01:27 > 0:01:28and then in between,
0:01:28 > 0:01:30despite the breeze picking up,
0:01:30 > 0:01:30a lot of dry and fine weather.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34And temperatures lift a little
0:01:34 > 0:01:36because we're starting to see the effect
0:01:36 > 0:01:40of that April sunshine.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41is not going anywhere,
0:01:41 > 0:01:42it'll be with us for much of
0:01:42 > 0:01:46this extended period forecast.
0:01:46 > 0:01:52giving us outbreaks of rain or showers.
0:01:52 > 0:02:11more prevalent even further north,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13Well, that low pressure hasn't moved.
0:02:13 > 0:02:15So it's got to be down to the wind direction.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17We'll continue with that trend
0:02:17 > 0:02:19throughout the rest of the period.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21But let's take a look at what's happening.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23We have the cold air across us
0:02:23 > 0:02:25as we've had for most of the week.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27But at the moment, the land is warming up nicely,
0:02:27 > 0:02:29so in southern parts of the UK,
0:02:29 > 0:02:32where we're pulling in a south-easterly wind,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34we will see things gradually warming up by day
0:02:34 > 0:02:36because the land mass really is reacting
0:02:36 > 0:02:38to that stronger April sunshine.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41Whilst the wind coming in across the North Sea
0:02:41 > 0:02:44is still chilly. This time of year, notoriously,
0:02:44 > 0:02:46is when we see the coldest weather
0:02:46 > 0:02:47out around the coast
0:02:47 > 0:02:50because the sea is at its lowest temperature.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52This is an infrared satellite picture.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56It tells us about the cloud as well as the warmth.
0:02:56 > 0:02:58The whiter the picture, the colder it is.
0:02:58 > 0:02:58At this time of year,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00there's very little difference
0:03:00 > 0:03:02between the land and the sea.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04But if we go through spring towards summer,
0:03:04 > 0:03:05you see the darker colours
0:03:05 > 0:03:09where the land responds to that stronger sunshine
0:03:09 > 0:03:11much more quickly than the cooler sea,
0:03:11 > 0:03:14so as we get those easterly winds this week,
0:03:14 > 0:03:17coming over the really quite chilly North Sea,
0:03:17 > 0:03:20most of the seas around our shores are chilly,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23but it will be notable because it's coming in off the east
0:03:23 > 0:03:24that we won't get much warming.
0:03:24 > 0:03:28So chilly nights continue to be in the forecast, as do showers,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30but it will get a little warmer in the south.
