0:00:04 > 0:00:06Hello again. Yesterday I spoke about the battle taking place

0:00:06 > 0:00:08between high pressure, low pressure, warm air and cold air.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10That battle has not been resolved.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12There is considerable uncertainty in the outlook.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15We'll get there in the moment. This is Tuesday's weather though.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17The rain is further north.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20To the south we've got some sunshine and some showers.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23If there is any sunshine in Scotland it's in the north-west Highlands.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26The rest of Scotland looks cloudy as does Northern Ireland

0:00:26 > 0:00:27and northern England.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30There will be some outbreaks of rain and that rain could be quite

0:00:30 > 0:00:32heavy in northern England and temperatures will be quite

0:00:32 > 0:00:36a bit lower in north-west of England than they were on Monday.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39It's to the south where we've got the warmth in response

0:00:39 > 0:00:43from some sunshine, but that will bubble up the cloud,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Very hit and miss and a lot of places will be dry.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47But there's a signal for some heavy

0:00:47 > 0:00:50and potentially thundery ones in the south-west at this stage.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51But once you lose the power of the sun so the showers fade away

0:00:51 > 0:00:54and it dries off again.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58But to the north we keep that thicker cloud, we keep the rain

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and drizzle.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01Temperatures about five, six degrees.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04A little chillier maybe across the south where we break the cloud

0:01:04 > 0:01:07and that could develop a little bit of mist and fog.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Here's the pressure pattern for Wednesday

0:01:09 > 0:01:11though, still dominated by a big low pressure to the south of us

0:01:11 > 0:01:17and that weather front is focusing rain and drizzle,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19and perhaps northern England as well.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23A bit lighter possibly by this stage. To the south some sunshine.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24Look at the showers developing.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27The heavier ones may be across Wales and the south-west.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29You could get 17 degrees in London.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33Contrast that with seven in Aberdeen.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Now, subtle change as we head into Thursday.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Low pressure close to the south-west but high pressure is trying

0:01:38 > 0:01:41to topple into more northern areas of the UK.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45What that will do with the rising pressure there is tend to

0:01:45 > 0:01:48peter out a lot of the rain so it won't be as wet

0:01:48 > 0:01:50across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53It's to the south where it will see most of the showers again,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55some more persistent rain in the south-west perhaps,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58because here we are closer to that area of low pressure.

0:01:58 > 0:02:03Now into Friday. And Friday looks a bit of a mess to be honest with you.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06I think many places will catch a shower or two.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Something more than that likely as well.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10We've still got those temperature contrasts.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Chilly in the north, not as warm in the south

0:02:13 > 0:02:16because we've got some wetter weather around.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18And we've essentially got low pressure combining with

0:02:18 > 0:02:20the weather fronts moving down from the north.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Once that pushes through we'll introduce some cleaner

0:02:23 > 0:02:25air around that area of high pressure.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28So it should be drier for Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:28 > 0:02:29some sunshine perhaps.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33Still for England and Wales we're not clearing away that rain at all.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37So things are moving much more slowly now.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Then we head into more uncertainty beyond that because high pressure is

0:02:40 > 0:02:43trying to push in, and around the edge of that we've got this

0:02:43 > 0:02:47push of colder air, drier air that's forcing that area

0:02:47 > 0:02:48of low pressure away.

0:02:48 > 0:02:53So over the course of next week high pressure could

0:02:53 > 0:02:54build across the UK

0:02:54 > 0:02:58and we may introduce a slightly milder south-easterly airflow.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00But low pressure's not far away.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04This is the most likely scenario. With higher pressure of course

0:03:04 > 0:03:05it's going to be drier.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07The nights may be chilly

0:03:07 > 0:03:10but it should be dry with some sunshine during the day.

0:03:10 > 0:03:15However a less likely scenario is that pressure will be lower and

0:03:15 > 0:03:19that low pressure that wasn't far away could push back into the UK.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So that will bring a very different picture.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Instead up the sunshine you're more likely, especially

0:03:24 > 0:03:26in the south-west, to catch some thicker cloud

0:03:26 > 0:03:28and some rain at times.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30A lot to play for in the next few days.
