0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. We saw temperature differences across England

0:00:05 > 0:00:07alone during Tuesday, of 10 degrees or more.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Temperature contrasts are being played out across the UK

0:00:10 > 0:00:11and will continue to do so.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13The weather patterns aren't changing much.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15The reason is this unusual S-shape of a jet stream

0:00:15 > 0:00:17across the northern Atlantic.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19We are used to it going from West to East,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21that changes the weather patterns quite rapidly.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22With this pattern,

0:00:22 > 0:00:26the weather systems underneath don't move very far.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29On this bulge towards the south we have got low-pressure centred,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31on the bulge to the north, high pressure.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33So high pressure to the north, low pressure to the south,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35it'll be that way through much of this week.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Dividing line between what is cold air

0:00:38 > 0:00:40and warm air is a weather front which will be across the far

0:00:40 > 0:00:42north of England, into Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44bringing rain through the day.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Chilly conditions to the north of that, bit of a breeze.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Warmer air to the south after mist and morning fog.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Sunshine comes out, temperatures lift

0:00:51 > 0:00:54and we will see some thunderstorms develop.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56The thunderstorms could come with hail.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59It will be another warm day, whereas further north, another cold day,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02especially in the wind which will be still with us.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Outbreaks of rain across eastern Scotland and north-east England.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Showers taking longer to decay away across England

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and Wales into Thursday morning.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Slightly bigger temperature contrasts into Thursday morning,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15with colder air cooling across the north of Scotland.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17A touch of frost around.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20That dividing line between the cold and warm air still with us

0:01:20 > 0:01:22on Thursday, high to the north, low to the south.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24Nothing much changing there.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27But there will be some changes, there will be a bit more brightness

0:01:27 > 0:01:30across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Still some rain, still a bit cool

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and grim down these eastern coasts.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35An improvement on the past few days.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38England and Wales, morning cloud breaks up, sunshine comes

0:01:38 > 0:01:41through, warm once again but that sets off thunderstorms.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43You can see those temperature contrasts in action.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46A little cooler to the south-west by this stage

0:01:46 > 0:01:48and that is because the low pressure to the south of us

0:01:48 > 0:01:51starts to become a bit more dominant, at least for Friday.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54At the same time, a weather front pushes into the north

0:01:54 > 0:01:56of Scotland, introducing even colder air.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58A bit of snow on the tops of the hills as well,

0:01:58 > 0:01:59even to lower levels later.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03England and Wales, a lot more cloud around, showers,

0:02:03 > 0:02:07longer spells of rain. The odd thunderstorm can't be ruled out.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Temperatures, by and large,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13UK-wide, will be down on what we have at the moment.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Into Saturday, the cold front pushes southwards.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18There could still be some snow, not just to the hills.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Brighter weather developing across the far north.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23To the south, still plenty of cloud,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25still the chance of showers at times.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26That will take us into Sunday.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29The low pressure starting to pull away by Sunday.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32How quickly it goes, how quick that colder air pushes its way

0:02:32 > 0:02:34southwards is one thing we will have to watch.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37It could happen quicker than shown on the charts.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Sunday could be a better day but at the moment, it still looks

0:02:40 > 0:02:42a potential for showers, mainly across England and Wales.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Brighter, lighter winds the further north you are.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Beyond that, though, there is a greater sign that it is high

0:02:48 > 0:02:50pressure that will dominate into next week.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Not as much low pressure, as Darren was hinting at yesterday.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55The high pressure, how far east

0:02:55 > 0:02:57and how quickly it comes in will be the biggest question.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59If it stalls and stays to the west of us,

0:02:59 > 0:03:03it will continue to feed in cooler conditions across the UK.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06But it could easily build across the UK a little further east

0:03:06 > 0:03:09and if it does so, that will allow south or south-easterly winds

0:03:09 > 0:03:13to become a bit more dominant and bring a bit more warmth in.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16That is one big question mark for next week.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Either way, it looks drier than this week.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Even if we get that high pressure to the west with a colder air,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26the sun is still strong enough to give a bit of daytime warmth.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29But by night, either regime could still produce a little

0:03:29 > 0:03:30bit of night-time frost.
