0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. On Wednesday, parts of England and Wales

0:00:05 > 0:00:08again recorded the highest temperatures of the year so far.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Temperatures peaked close to 19 Celsius, in fact,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13to the west of London,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15but big differences once again, further north.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19A good 12 degrees cooler in parts of central and southern Scotland.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21There will be changes ahead, though.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23We'll iron out those contrasts through the rest of this week,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26and by Saturday all of us will be in the colder air,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28many struggling to get out of single figures.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30We'll need a bit of sunshine to boost temperatures

0:00:30 > 0:00:33such as six or seven for many of you.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36It's a few days away, and it's going to be a slow process change,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and the reason, we've still got the jet stream

0:00:38 > 0:00:40in a sort of z-shape pattern as I mentioned yesterday.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42High pressure to the north-west of the UK,

0:00:42 > 0:00:43low pressure to the south-west.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Low pressure has more influence on Thursday,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47meaning showers across England and Wales.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49We've seen heavy, thundery ones in the past few days.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52On Thursday, more widespread and heaviest through the afternoon

0:00:52 > 0:00:54in Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Brightening up the south coast after a wet start,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59though more heavy rain in the far south-west of England

0:00:59 > 0:01:00and Channel Islands, later.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03In the sunshine, either side of the showers, still potentially

0:01:03 > 0:01:04mid-teen temperatures.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of England, single figures.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09But a brighter day compared to recent days.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Then through Thursday night into Friday,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14we've one weather front pushing northwards across England and Wales,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16another working its way south into Scotland.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18In between, some drier weather.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20A touch of frost here and there,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22but colder air starting to push in from the north,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25with this second weather front we can see pushing across Scotland.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Winds all the way from the Arctic,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29and so a drastic drop in temperature.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31And on that weather front we will see the rain turn to sleet and snow,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33even at lower levels at times.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Not expecting any massive disruption at the moment,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37but certainly a wintry feel.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40That pushes into Northern Ireland, eventually northern England.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Rest of England and Wales, low-pressure centred here.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44You'll be hard pressed to stay dry throughout,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46because there will be rain just about anywhere.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Still some heavy thundery downpours especially where we see brightness,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51temperatures in the mid-teens.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Only around four or five Celsius in the north-east of Scotland.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56That low-pressure system is with us in England and Wales on Friday.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Starts to push eastward into Saturday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00It allows, then, that colder air that I mentioned

0:02:00 > 0:02:03southwards to all parts of the UK.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Not a great start across England and Wales, outbreaks of rain which will

0:02:06 > 0:02:09turn to sleet and snow over the hills, but gradually clears through.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Winds easing a little bit in the west later on,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13turning a little bit brighter as well,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15and as I said, you need a bit of sunshine

0:02:15 > 0:02:17to see temperatures into double figures.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21Some may languish around four, five Celsius through part of the day.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23But it's high pressure which eventually builds in to Sunday

0:02:23 > 0:02:25from the west.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27We've a bit of a breeze across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29This time a westerly direction.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Eastern areas will probably fare better than you've done of late,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33and there is that high pressure system.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36It's there across the south of the country Sunday into Monday.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39We do have a low-pressure system between Iceland and Norway, which

0:02:39 > 0:02:42will have certain influence across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45bringing some cloud, a few showers around, and a bit more of a breeze,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47but compared to what we have at the moment, a big improvement.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49In the south, after a frosty start,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52temperatures lifting back into double figures widely once again.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54So, we go into next week.

0:02:54 > 0:02:59We've lost that s-shaped, z-shaped jet stream that I mentioned.

0:02:59 > 0:03:00Instead, we've got two.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03And in between, high pressure is going to sit there,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05and it looks set to sit all week.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Now, yesterday I said there was a chance further east for warm air.

0:03:08 > 0:03:09Looking a little less likely now.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12It's going to be mainly to the west of us, bringing cooler

0:03:12 > 0:03:16Atlantic air around the top, but do not write the week off because

0:03:16 > 0:03:18don't forget, the April sunshine is getting that bit stronger.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21More of you will be drier for longer.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Just one or two showers around. When the sunshine is out,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25it will feel pleasantly warm, but still, the night...

0:03:25 > 0:03:27And this will be a important one for the gardeners.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31..the chill will be there, with a bit of frost always possible. Bye.
