0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hi there. Somebody once said April is the cruellest month.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09By the end of this broadcast perhaps you'll begin to understand why.

0:00:09 > 0:00:13We started the weekend with a real taste of late winter,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17a covering of snow in the Cotswolds and a few other places as well.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20But over the next few days, things will start to warm up a bit

0:00:20 > 0:00:21and spring will return,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24and this could well be the scene by the middle of the week.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26It'll feel quite pleasant, I think,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29with a lot of dry weather around, and in the sunshine it'll feel OK.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33Trouble is, come next weekend we're back to square one again, and who

0:00:33 > 0:00:35knows, somebody somewhere could see

0:00:35 > 0:00:38another covering of snow by then. A lot going on, then.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41We start proceedings with a frost on the ground in many

0:00:41 > 0:00:43places on Sunday morning.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46A lot of sunshine, though, and by the time many of us are up,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49the frost will be lifting and it'll be a nice morning out there.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53The odd shower perhaps near the east coast for a time. They'll fade away.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55An approaching weather front will bring some patchy rain to the

0:00:55 > 0:00:58north-west of Scotland, but at the other end of the UK,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00it should be dry into the afternoon.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Just the chance of the odd shower across some southern

0:01:03 > 0:01:06counties of England, but they'll be reasonably isolated

0:01:06 > 0:01:08and many places will avoid these.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10And the winds will be lighter than on Saturday,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12so although temperatures won't be all that high,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15it'll feel a bit more comfortable.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Clouding up, though, across Northern Ireland

0:01:17 > 0:01:19and Scotland as that weak front approaches,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22but any rain is confined to the western Highlands,

0:01:22 > 0:01:26and even here it won't amount to much,

0:01:26 > 0:01:39Now, that weather front will try to push some rain southwards,

0:01:39 > 0:01:48for much of the coming week.

0:01:48 > 0:01:53though the nights still will be quite chilly.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57and that weather front really has died a death,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00There'll be some sunshine, too, with reasonably light winds,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02temperatures again edging up a little bit,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05though the nights still quite chilly, as I mentioned.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08By Wednesday, a freshening breeze across southern areas,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11lighter winds further north, most places still dry,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14and again it'll feel quite comfortable out there,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16if you can get out of the breeze, that is.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17By the middle of the week,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19there's a weather system coming up from the south.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21There's a question mark about how far north it gets.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24The threat of some rain for a time across some south-western areas.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26We'll keep an eye on that.

0:02:26 > 0:02:32Certainly it does look as if that breeze will continue to freshen,

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Temperatures out of the breeze and in the sunshine will do pretty well,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38potentially up into the high teens in one or two

0:02:38 > 0:02:42places by Thursday afternoon, so relatively warm at this stage.

0:02:42 > 0:02:50However, cold air is ever present to the north,

0:02:50 > 0:02:58with a vengeance come the weekend,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01So the message is, as we go towards next weekend,

0:03:01 > 0:03:06we could well see another plunge of cold arctic air between low

0:03:06 > 0:03:09pressure to the east and high pressure to the west.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12The dominance of the low and the high is still uncertain,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14but with low pressure in quite close attendance there is

0:03:14 > 0:03:17the risk of some wintry showers, for sure.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So, to sum up next weekend, it looks like

0:03:19 > 0:03:22the cold air's going to return, some wintry showers around,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25the risk of some snow on those blustery winds

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and the chance of some further overnight frosts.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Gardeners, take note of that. And I'll update you again tomorrow.
