0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello there.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07Mother Nature is going to be playing games with us over the week ahead.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09First of all, it'll start to get a bit warmer

0:00:09 > 0:00:12and then it will get noticeably colder later on.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13It's been a fairly quiet start to the week

0:00:13 > 0:00:15and after a chilly start,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Tuesday sees more sunshine for Scotland,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18northern England, down to East Anglia

0:00:18 > 0:00:20and eventually developing

0:00:20 > 0:00:21across the south-east of England.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Probably hanging on to more cloud though for Wales,

0:00:24 > 0:00:25the south-west and Northern Ireland

0:00:25 > 0:00:27but still a little sunshine at times.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29The winds will be much lighter in Scotland

0:00:29 > 0:00:31so it should feel warmer here

0:00:31 > 0:00:32and the highest temperature

0:00:32 > 0:00:35probably around the London area, about 15 degrees or so.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Now, we've got high pressure

0:00:36 > 0:00:39which is sitting right over the UK on Tuesday

0:00:39 > 0:00:40and into Wednesday

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and with that high pressure building,

0:00:42 > 0:00:43it will thin the cloud,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45break it up, allow more sunshine.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47We've got more isobars on the chart

0:00:47 > 0:00:48for the south-west of England

0:00:48 > 0:00:50through the English Channel -

0:00:50 > 0:00:52that means the winds will be stronger here

0:00:52 > 0:00:53and we saw that weather front there

0:00:53 > 0:00:55approaching the north-west corner

0:00:55 > 0:00:56of Scotland to bring more cloud

0:00:56 > 0:00:58and a little rain but otherwise

0:00:58 > 0:01:00very little cloud on the chart for Wednesday.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01Lots of sunshine,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03probably feeling quite a bit warmer as well,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06widely 14, 15 degrees or so.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08So, for the next few days,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10with the high pressure over the top of us,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11there's little or no rain,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13it's probably going to get warmer around the middle

0:01:13 > 0:01:18part of the week but the nights will still be on the chilly side.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Let's look to Thursday and, again, some sunshine,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22maybe a bit more cloud around

0:01:22 > 0:01:24but some good spells of sunshine.

0:01:24 > 0:01:25Breezy and thicker cloud

0:01:25 > 0:01:27for the far north of Scotland

0:01:27 > 0:01:29and a stronger breeze still in the south-west

0:01:29 > 0:01:31and we could see this area of rain

0:01:31 > 0:01:34beginning to develop towards the end of Thursday.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36And this signals the first change, really,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39through Thursday night and into Friday,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41this slow-moving weather front,

0:01:41 > 0:01:42around this area of low pressure,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45will slide through the Channel and bring more cloud

0:01:45 > 0:01:46and outbreaks of rain to

0:01:46 > 0:01:48southern England and South Wales.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Elsewhere, there'll be some sunshine,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52there'll be a few showers around.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53Notice where the winds are coming from

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and with that sort of direction,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56temperatures in many places

0:01:56 > 0:01:59will be struggling to make double figures

0:01:59 > 0:02:00so it's getting colder.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01Now, that area of low pressure

0:02:01 > 0:02:03pulls away into the near continent,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04takes the rain away with it

0:02:04 > 0:02:06and if we look at the high pressure,

0:02:06 > 0:02:07it's in a different place

0:02:07 > 0:02:09by the time we get to the weekend -

0:02:09 > 0:02:11it's out in the Atlantic so around it,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14we're drawing down a northerly wind

0:02:14 > 0:02:16and that's going to draw down the air,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18possibly all the way from the Arctic

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and bring with it quite a chill

0:02:20 > 0:02:21so this is where the temperatures

0:02:21 > 0:02:23are starting to drop

0:02:23 > 0:02:26later on Friday, if not into the weekend,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28so those are the temperatures on Saturday.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29There'll be some sunshine around

0:02:29 > 0:02:31but there'll also be some showers

0:02:31 > 0:02:33and they could be of a wintry flavour,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34particularly over the hills,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35a bit like we had

0:02:35 > 0:02:38at the beginning of last weekend.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40So, this is how we're looking for the weekend

0:02:40 > 0:02:42with this wedge of cold air across the UK.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44The warmer air not far away

0:02:44 > 0:02:45but not quite far enough

0:02:45 > 0:02:48and not quite close enough to the UK.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49So it looks like it's going

0:02:49 > 0:02:51to stay cold throughout next week

0:02:51 > 0:02:52and there will be some showers.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55They could be wintry, particularly over the hills.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Not bad when the sun is out but there's likely to be some

0:02:58 > 0:03:01night-time frost as well, that depends on the strength of the wind.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Quite a shock to the system but it's not that unusual to get sleet

0:03:04 > 0:03:05and snow falling in April.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08This is a Met Office chart, the number of days of sleet

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and snow falling - the darker colours,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13this is where we're more likely to get it so over the hills.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15But it's interesting to note it's less likely through

0:03:15 > 0:03:18the Central Belt of Scotland, southern and most parts of England,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20mainly because there's a northerly wind,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22but also around the Fens - that's a little interesting -

0:03:22 > 0:03:25but it could be that this colder air

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and this threat of sleet and snow

0:03:27 > 0:03:29falling may continue even into May.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Goodbye.
