0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello, again. There are still a couple of days of fine,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08warm spring sunshine before the weather turns.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11But let's set the scene on what's happening right now.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15And high pressure is sitting right over the UK.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16It's keeping these cloud

0:00:16 > 0:00:20and weather systems at bay for the time being but this low will

0:00:20 > 0:00:24push cloud northwards, the winds will pick up ahead of it as well.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25And these weather systems,

0:00:25 > 0:00:29this cloud will just nudge into the north-west of Scotland on Wednesday.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31But away from here, a lot of sunshine around,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33a lovely day on Wednesday.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37Stronger, gusty winds, particularly across the south-west of England.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Here, the sunshine may be a little bit hazy.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42But on the whole, many places will actually be a bit warmer

0:00:42 > 0:00:44than on Tuesday.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46The top temperature this time for the west, the north

0:00:46 > 0:00:50and west of Wales, and north-west England. Could get 17 degrees.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Now, our high pressure, as we head into Thursday,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55is starting to get squeezed by that low

0:00:55 > 0:00:58and those weather fronts coming up from the south.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01More isobars, stronger winds, and a weak weather front just

0:01:01 > 0:01:02nudging into the north of Scotland.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04We've still got lots of dry weather,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06there will still be some sunshine around on Thursday.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09There'll be stronger winds in southern England and South Wales

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and there's likely to be more cloud ahead of the rain,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14which is staying out at sea at this stage.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17A little rain for the north of Scotland, best of the sunshine for

0:01:17 > 0:01:20these central areas and temperatures could get up to 16 degrees.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Friday looks different.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24We've got this rain now starting to edge into the Channel,

0:01:24 > 0:01:28maybe affecting the south-west of England, possibly South Wales.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30A few showers coming into Scotland,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but temperatures with the northerly wind will be some

0:01:32 > 0:01:37four degrees lower on Friday compared with Thursday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40And that's because the high pressure that is right over the UK

0:01:40 > 0:01:43right now on Friday will have retreated out into the Atlantic

0:01:43 > 0:01:44and that is crucial.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46With that big area of high pressure there,

0:01:46 > 0:01:50we start to draw down our winds from the north.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53And this is the pattern that we've got as we head into the weekend.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57Those colder wins possibly coming all the way down from the Arctic.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00So, as we head to the weekend, it's getting colder,

0:02:00 > 0:02:01a bit like it did last weekend.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04There will be some sunshine around on Saturday,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05but there could be showers around, too.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07And maybe a bit of sleet and snow over the hills.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Get in a heavier shower, you may get some hail as well.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Temperatures struggling, at six degrees in Aberdeen,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16possibly double figures across southern England.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19And again, some sunshine on Sunday after a chilly start.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22A chilly wind blowing again with some sunshine

0:02:22 > 0:02:25and also some showers around, too.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29So the weather pattern that we're moving into during the weekend

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and into next week looks like this.

0:02:31 > 0:02:32This is the jet stream.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36So there's no fast-moving jet whistling across the Atlantic,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39instead it's moving north-south in a looping pattern.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43This is a meridional flow that we have.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46And we're on the cold side of that jet stream, it looks like,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49throughout next week, in actual fact.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50And with this sort of configuration,

0:02:50 > 0:02:54you find an area of low pressure to the east of the UK,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56big area of high pressure in the Atlantic,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59and this weather pattern is stubborn.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02This weather pattern takes a lot of shifting.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Every time you have a high to one side, low to the east of us,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08you are going to you're going to draw down those winds

0:03:08 > 0:03:11from the north and just keep feeding in that colder air.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14So, this was actually a picture from last weekend

0:03:14 > 0:03:17and this could be similar to next week, actually.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19There will be a cold feel - looks pretty cold, doesn't it?

0:03:19 > 0:03:21There will be some sunshine,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24some of the showers could be of a wintry flavour as well.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27And it's possible that this weather pattern,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30bringing the colder air could linger into the start of May.
