0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. The cold weather that's going to arrive in the next few days

0:00:06 > 0:00:08will be a real shock to the system,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11especially when you consider what we've had

0:00:11 > 0:00:12over the past few days,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15with the warmest day of the year so far -

0:00:15 > 0:00:1819 degrees in west Wales.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Not as much sunshine on Thursday.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Cloud continues to spill up from the southwest,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25not too threatening just yet.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Eventually, it will bring some rain.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30A few spots of rain in the north of Scotland.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33The sunniest skies will be for Northern Ireland

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and northern England.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Not as sunny in the south as it was on Wednesday.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40There's still some warmth out there,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42but compare that with Friday -

0:00:42 > 0:00:45temperatures really taking a tumble,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48by as much as 6 degrees in the case of Newcastle and Birmingham.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Two reasons for that -

0:00:50 > 0:00:53that thickening cloud, this time bringing rain

0:00:53 > 0:00:55into the south-west,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58possibly pushing into the south-east,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59the Midlands and Wales.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01To the north there'll be sunshine,

0:01:01 > 0:01:04but the wind direction is changing here

0:01:04 > 0:01:07and we're dragging down northerly winds.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09The big change, because high pressure

0:01:09 > 0:01:11that is right now over the UK,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13by Friday will be out in the Atlantic

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and as it sits over there,

0:01:15 > 0:01:20it means we will draw down these northerly winds.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22By the time we get into the weekend

0:01:22 > 0:01:25they may bring down air from the Arctic.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28It is going to feel colder this weekend,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30particularly in the stronger winds

0:01:30 > 0:01:32down the eastern side of the UK,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35and this is where we'll find most of the showers.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37There could be hail, sleet and snow

0:01:37 > 0:01:41almost anywhere because the air will be that cold.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43As we head into Sunday,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45again the chance of showers,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47a few coming off the Irish Sea,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49but the bulk of the showers

0:01:49 > 0:01:51down the eastern side of England,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53where temperatures are struggling

0:01:53 > 0:01:55to make 7 or 8 degrees.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58And for the first time in the history of the London Marathon,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01there's the chance of some wintry showers.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03It's certainly going to feel cold

0:02:03 > 0:02:05and it could be quite blowy as well.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Challenging conditions are ahead.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Let's look at the bigger picture.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12This is where all our weather is coming from.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14You can follow the isobars from the north.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Again, high pressure to the west of us,

0:02:17 > 0:02:18low pressure to the east,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21so that brings down the winds from the north.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24On Monday, there'll be sunshine and showers,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27those showers could be rather wintry.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Maybe Monday not quite as cold

0:02:30 > 0:02:32in the south and west,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34but we'll find another surge

0:02:34 > 0:02:36of colder air into next week,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39those northerly winds bringing down

0:02:39 > 0:02:41the cold from the Arctic once again.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43And if we put on top of that

0:02:43 > 0:02:44the jet stream,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47we've got this pattern again.

0:02:47 > 0:02:48We looked at that yesterday.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49This is a pattern

0:02:49 > 0:02:51that is not really going to change.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53It's likely to be with us

0:02:53 > 0:02:55right the way through next week,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57so we'll stay in the colder air.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Maximum temperatures at this time of year

0:03:00 > 0:03:03should be about 13, maybe 15 degrees.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04This is what we'll see

0:03:04 > 0:03:06throughout next week -

0:03:06 > 0:03:09a drop of some 2 to 4 degrees.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11This is likely to be the longest spell

0:03:11 > 0:03:13of below-average temperatures

0:03:13 > 0:03:16that we've had for an awful long time.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Next week will feel cold

0:03:18 > 0:03:19in the northerly winds,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21there could be frost at night.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Not too bad if you're in the sunshine

0:03:23 > 0:03:26but those showers are likely to be of a wintry flavour.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Perhaps the beginning of May

0:03:28 > 0:03:30sees temperatures rising back to normal.
