0:00:02 > 0:00:05At times this weekend, you could kid yourself it's the end of April.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08At other times, it feels like the beginning of March.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Now, how long is this chilly spell going to continue?

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Well, throughout the coming week, I fancy.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Sunshine and blustery showers,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18some of those showers quite wintry with an ongoing risk of frost.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21So, where should we be at this time of year?

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Temperatures should be around 14 degrees by day,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27but through this week, we will not reach those dizzy heights.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29The coldest weather around Tuesday/Wednesday,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31a slow recovery by then,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34but really not warmth enough for the time of year.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36The reason - the persistent northerly winds.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39That's the set-up as we go through Sunday and,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41within those northerlies,

0:00:41 > 0:00:42we've got bands of showers

0:00:42 > 0:00:45and showers will affect some parts of the country

0:00:45 > 0:00:46as we go through the day.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49One such cluster moving down through Wales

0:00:49 > 0:00:51and western parts of England

0:00:51 > 0:00:52into parts of the Midlands as well.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Mostly rain, but a bit of sleet or snow

0:00:54 > 0:00:57over the highest ground and still some showers

0:00:57 > 0:00:58brushing down that North Sea coast,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01but actually a lot of sunshine in between

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and in the sunshine, out of the breeze,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05it doesn't feel too bad, 12 or 13 degrees.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07When those showers come along in the wind,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09it feels very wintry indeed.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11And as we go into the evening,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14temperatures will fall sharply under clear skies

0:01:14 > 0:01:17before more showers, a real packet of showers

0:01:17 > 0:01:18come into the more northern

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and western parts of the UK.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21It is going to feel cold

0:01:21 > 0:01:24first thing on Monday morning in the countryside,

0:01:24 > 0:01:25not far off freezing,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28particularly through the glens of Scotland,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31which means the showers will again be quite wintry here.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32At the other end of the UK,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34it could be a sunny start to the day

0:01:34 > 0:01:36across East Anglia and the south-east,

0:01:36 > 0:01:37but don't rely on that sunshine

0:01:37 > 0:01:40because the showers will be piling into the more northern

0:01:40 > 0:01:41and western areas

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and they'll be quite blustery, quite sharp showers.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45It won't feel very friendly out there

0:01:45 > 0:01:46as you journey to work.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Some sunshine to the east of the Pennines,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50but a whole lot of showers out west

0:01:50 > 0:01:53and they'll be in evidence across Northern Ireland.

0:01:53 > 0:01:54The Central Belt with some shelter

0:01:54 > 0:01:56from the northerly wind might not be too bad,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58but across the Highlands and the Grampians,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00the showers will be falling as snow

0:02:00 > 0:02:02down to quite low levels at times,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04but not disruptive snow, we don't think.

0:02:04 > 0:02:05Now, as we go through the day,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07the showers will continue to pile their way

0:02:07 > 0:02:09down towards the south and the east.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Following on behind again will be some sunshine,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13but nowhere will it be warm.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15As we go from Monday into Tuesday,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18we'll see low pressure moving down the North Sea,

0:02:18 > 0:02:19a real squeeze in the isobars

0:02:19 > 0:02:20along the eastern side of the UK

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and we could see a good old gale

0:02:22 > 0:02:24blowing down the North Sea coast.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Wind chill will be significant.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27That's not usually a phrase

0:02:27 > 0:02:29I'd be using at this time of year,

0:02:29 > 0:02:30but it will be a cold wind

0:02:30 > 0:02:31with further blustery showers -

0:02:31 > 0:02:32the best of the drier

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and brighter weather further west.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36By Wednesday, that low pressure beginning to ease away

0:02:36 > 0:02:38so perhaps the winds dying down a touch,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40but still the focus of showers

0:02:40 > 0:02:41across the more eastern areas.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43They could be wintry up over the highest ground.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45The closest to the high pressure out west,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47the best of the dry weather,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49but then we're going to see another developing area

0:02:49 > 0:02:51of low pressure coming in from the north-west.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Nailing down the detail of that

0:02:53 > 0:02:54at this range is not easy.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Suffice it to say, we could see some more general wet

0:02:57 > 0:02:59and windy weather pushing in initially

0:02:59 > 0:03:00to more north-western areas,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02pushing down towards the south-east

0:03:02 > 0:03:03and it could be cold enough

0:03:03 > 0:03:04for snow over the high ground.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06So, another shot of cold air

0:03:06 > 0:03:07coming in from the north-west.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08Next weekend, well,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10warm air's trying to come in,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12but low pressure anchored across the UK

0:03:12 > 0:03:14is going to keep things cool.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16We don't have a supply of Arctic air

0:03:16 > 0:03:17from the North Pole

0:03:17 > 0:03:19so it probably won't be just as cold.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Let's say less chilly.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23With that low pressure in residence,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24rain at times is very likely.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Some sunshine,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28but there is absolutely no sign of anything hot.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29See you tomorrow.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33The voice you're hearing is mine.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36It was recorded last night after I had a few pints.
