0:00:03 > 0:00:06It might be a good idea to keep an eye on the forecast.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08All sorts of weather coming in our direction,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10much of it of a rather wintry flavour.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Yeah, there will be some pleasant sunshine at times

0:00:12 > 0:00:15and, occasionally, it might even feel like late April.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17But there will be some pretty wet weather.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Not just showers, some longer spells of rain at times.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22Some strong winds, too. Gales battering some coasts.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26And, yes, would you believe, some significant snowfall.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28And overnight frost a continuing hazard, too.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30The reason for this chilly weather -

0:00:30 > 0:00:32northerly winds coming down from the Arctic.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34If anything, over the next couple of days,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36those northerlies are going to get even colder.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Carrying lumps of cloud down in our direction,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41and that cloud generating some showers.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Here's the picture first thing on Monday morning.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45A scattering of showers.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47There'll be some pleasant sunshine out there, too.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49But wintry showers across the north of Scotland,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51and some of that wintry weather

0:00:51 > 0:00:54will be heading its way into northern England through the day.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Gales setting in across the far north.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58At the other end of the UK, with some shelter,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00temperatures will reach respectability.

0:01:00 > 0:01:0112 or 13 degrees.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04But 6 degrees across the north of Scotland.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Add on a gale-force wind, it's going to feel quite bitter.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Unusually cold air for the time of year.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13And the risk of snow showers extends all the way down the east coast

0:01:13 > 0:01:14as we head into Tuesday morning.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Don't be at all surprised

0:01:16 > 0:01:18if you wake up to a covering of snow here first thing

0:01:18 > 0:01:20with those are very, very strong winds near the coast.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22So significant wind chill.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24The snow will melt by day, on low ground at least.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27And, actually, a lot of sunshine further west.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28But nowhere will it be warm.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30If you reach double figures on Tuesday,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32you'll be doing very well indeed.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Now, the low pressure responsible for the strong winds

0:01:35 > 0:01:37will head off into the near continent,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39but still pretty blustery on Wednesday

0:01:39 > 0:01:41around the eastern side of the UK,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and further quite heavy showers to come.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Once more, the best of the dry and bright weather

0:01:45 > 0:01:46probably further west.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Even here, there'll be one or two showers.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51And, again, they will be wintry up over the high ground.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Temperatures really struggling. 6, 7, 8 degrees.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56When the showers come along, of course,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58the temperatures falling away even further than that.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Watch out for frost overnight.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Thursday's picture very complicated.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04We're kind of surrounded by areas of low pressure.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Getting the timing of these will not be easy.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08But I'm sure you get the gist.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10There'll be some wet weather around.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Looks as if the southern half of the UK

0:02:12 > 0:02:13could see a longer spell of rain.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Not just rain, a period of snow, perhaps,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17for the high ground of Wales,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19which, again, will tend to turn back to rain through the daytime.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Maybe a little bit drier further northwards, but don't bank on it.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Temperatures, again, poor for the time of year.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26On into Friday,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29another batch of wet weather looks like coming in from the west,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32and once more, the position of that is going to tax us forecasters,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35so don't take this chart too literally.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37It just gives a flavour of some rather wet,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40chilly, windy weather once more as we end of the week.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Cold air still in control. The blues dominating.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45But I want to point out the fact

0:02:45 > 0:02:48that the supply of Arctic air all the way from the North Pole

0:02:48 > 0:02:49has now been cut off,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52so the cold air is kind of getting isolated.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54And at this time of year,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57cold air that just sits there begins to warm out day by day

0:02:57 > 0:02:59unless it's recharged by fresh Arctic air.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03So perhaps not just so cold with time next weekend.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Somewhat milder conditions trying to spread in off the Atlantic,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08but moist air as well,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10so don't expect things to dry out in a hurry.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13We could see further fronts coming in through next weekend

0:03:13 > 0:03:15with further outbreaks of rain.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18So let's sum all that up, because as we head into early May,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21that less chilly theme, I think, holds true.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24But further wet weather likely. Some sunshine.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28And certainly no signs of anything particularly hot on the horizon.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30We'll update you again tomorrow.
