0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. Gardeners and growers, beware.

0:00:04 > 0:00:08We've got a very cold night ahead of us, a widespread frost,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11and it really is quite late in the season to be seeing such

0:00:11 > 0:00:12a widespread frost.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Earlier on Tuesday, there was some sunshine to be had,

0:00:15 > 0:00:19but with the shower clouds building, and when the showers came along,

0:00:19 > 0:00:22those temperatures dropped away, and the showers contained a real

0:00:22 > 0:00:26mix of rain, sleet, hail, and there was even a few rumbles of thunder.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Here's the big picture for the day on Wednesday.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Low pressure to the east of us, high pressure to the west,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35and the resultant is a cold northerly air stream.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Yes, we've been in the cold air for several days,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40and we are still in it through the middle of the week.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43But at least the winds will be a little bit lighter.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45And it is a cold start to the day, a widespread frost,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48but some sunshine for some central and eastern areas.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50But already in northern and western areas, wintry showers

0:00:50 > 0:00:53which will be drifting their way eastwards through the day.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55And again, there'll be some heavy showers,

0:00:55 > 0:00:59some rumbles of thunder, some hail mixed in and still some snow showers

0:00:59 > 0:01:01in northern Scotland and maybe the northern Pennines.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Some sunshine does follow along behind for some western areas,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06and in that sunshine it's eight or nine degrees.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Might get 12 or 13 in the London area.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Then through the evening, showers drifting their way ever eastwards.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15There's a few wintry ones still to be had,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17but for many the skies are clearing,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20so again it'll be cold and frosty to start the day on Thursday.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21All in all, a better day,

0:01:21 > 0:01:25I suspect, particularly for central and eastern areas, dry and bright.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Some showers developing towards the south-west of England, South Wales,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30and later in the day we'll start to see some wetter,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32windier weather in Northern Ireland.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Again, many places will be in single figures.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38In southernmost parts we're going to be just about into double figures.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40But that wetter, windier weather in Northern Ireland spreads

0:01:40 > 0:01:43across all parts during the day on Friday,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45and you'll notice quite a few isobars on the chart, as well.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48So it looks like we're going to end the week on a fairly wet

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and windy note, the strongest winds probably down

0:01:51 > 0:01:54towards the south and west, where the rain's probably at its heaviest.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57There's also the potential for some snow over higher ground in Scotland.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00That low is still with us on Saturday, slowly pulling

0:02:00 > 0:02:03away into the North Sea, but still a lot of isobars wrapped around it.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06A very blustery day on Saturday.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09And maybe not quite so much rain around in the south-west of the

0:02:09 > 0:02:12UK, but there will be plenty of rain elsewhere, I suspect,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15although maybe parts of the south-east not doing too badly.

0:02:15 > 0:02:16But it will be quite windy.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Northern Ireland not seeing persistent rain,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but some showers come in on that breeze.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Temperatures, though, by this stage pretty much into double figures with

0:02:24 > 0:02:26the winds beginning to come in from the Atlantic.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30Those Atlantic winds continue into Sunday, bringing weather fronts,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33but a reasonable start for central and eastern areas.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36We might get 15 degrees before that rain arrives in the London area.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39And again, most places should be in double figures.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43Now, for much of this week, we've got this sort of jet-stream pattern.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46It's snaking its way towards the north-west of Northern Ireland

0:02:46 > 0:02:48and down towards the southern counties of the UK.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50With a low to the east, a high to the west,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52we get that cold air coming down from the north.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53But, as we get into next week,

0:02:53 > 0:02:56it looks like the position of the jet stream will change,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59orientating as more of a westerly, so it'll be more unsettled,

0:02:59 > 0:03:00particularly in the north of the UK,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02where we are closest to an area of low pressure.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Further south, high pressure may build in and settle things down.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Where will the dividing line be between the wetter

0:03:07 > 0:03:10weather in the north and the brighter weather in the south?

0:03:10 > 0:03:13It's going to be somewhere across the heart of the UK.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16So, as we look towards early May, with those westerly winds

0:03:16 > 0:03:19developing, certainly a lot less chilly than it is right now.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Temperatures might still be below average, but less chilly than now.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Some rain at times, mainly in the north,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26driest in the south, and round about eight,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29nine days from now the overnight frosts look less and less likely.
