0:00:03 > 0:00:06It was another day where temperatures were really
0:00:06 > 0:00:09up and down as the heavy showers moved through,
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and today's showers also contained some thunder and some lightning.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14This picture sums it up quite nicely -
0:00:14 > 0:00:17some sunshine in the foreground, a big shower in the background.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20And today's showers contained that wintry mix of rain, hail,
0:00:20 > 0:00:21sleet and some snow.
0:00:21 > 0:00:24And we're not done with the wintry weather just yet.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26It's certainly a cold start to the day on Thursday,
0:00:26 > 0:00:29a widespread frost in more rural areas,
0:00:29 > 0:00:32then we see this weather front moving into that cold air.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34So, a chilly start to the day. Some sunshine, though.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37A scattering of showers across England and Wales,
0:00:37 > 0:00:39but mostly of rain by this stage, with sunshine,
0:00:39 > 0:00:41although clouding over from the west as rain moves
0:00:41 > 0:00:43away from Northern Ireland and crosses the Irish Sea.
0:00:43 > 0:00:48That rain gets up over the hills of Scotland and starts to turn to snow.
0:00:48 > 0:00:53Maybe only five or six degrees in Glasgow, 12 or 13 in London,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55but it's through the evening across Scotland where we
0:00:55 > 0:00:57are concerned about the amount of snow.
0:00:57 > 0:01:01Wintry weather for Northern Ireland, some parts of northern England,
0:01:01 > 0:01:02but some of this snow on the eastern side
0:01:02 > 0:01:05of Scotland could go a bit further north or south.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07But some snow is expected, and over higher ground
0:01:07 > 0:01:09we could see 10 to 20 centimetres
0:01:09 > 0:01:12of snow, and that'll be blowing around in those strong winds.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14So some impact more than likely,
0:01:14 > 0:01:17particularly on the transport network.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20Friday is going to be a blustery day with low pressure in charge,
0:01:20 > 0:01:23and there is that wintry weather to be had in some parts of eastern
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Scotland, some wintry showers at times in northern England.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29Head towards the south coast, and here it'll be cloudy,
0:01:29 > 0:01:30breezy with outbreaks of rain.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34Parts of the Midlands probably escaping with a largely dry day.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36And some places still firmly in single figures,
0:01:36 > 0:01:39particularly in the north and west.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42That low driving that wintry weather will drift away
0:01:42 > 0:01:44towards Scandinavia, and then pressure looks like it'll
0:01:44 > 0:01:47rise a little bit as we get on to the start of the weekend.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49And of course, it is a long bank-holiday weekend for many,
0:01:49 > 0:01:54with a reasonable start - chilly, yes, but a bright start.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56We will see one or two showers dotted around,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58but most places will enjoy some sunshine,
0:01:58 > 0:02:00although more cloudy in the north and west.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02And we've got temperatures back into double
0:02:02 > 0:02:04figures pretty much across the board.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07On into Sunday, and it's a different sort of day in the north
0:02:07 > 0:02:11and west, because of this weather system bringing some rain with it.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13Quite a few isobars, as well, so the winds picking
0:02:13 > 0:02:16up on into Sunday, particularly in the north and west.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19However, head further south and east, with the lighter winds,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22and it's a dry day with some increasingly hazy sunshine.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25It should feel quite pleasant, though, up to around 15 degrees,
0:02:25 > 0:02:27and even with the rain, elsewhere
0:02:27 > 0:02:29we've got those temperatures in double figures.
0:02:29 > 0:02:33Bank-holiday Monday itself looks like it'll be a wet and windy one.
0:02:33 > 0:02:37One band of rain will sweep across pretty much all parts of the UK.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39That'll be followed by sunshine and blustery showers,
0:02:39 > 0:02:42but ahead of that rain we could get 16 or so degrees in the London
0:02:42 > 0:02:47area, and again, most places are into double figures on Monday.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50So, next week, well, we are changing the position of the jet stream.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53It now looks like it'll be a fairly brisk westerly jet stream,
0:02:53 > 0:02:57which will allow high pressure to build across the south of the UK.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59Low pressure is more likely to bring some wetter
0:02:59 > 0:03:01and windier weather to the north of the UK at times.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04But with those westerly winds coming in from the Atlantic,
0:03:04 > 0:03:07we've already seen temperatures in double figures through the weekend,
0:03:07 > 0:03:09and it looks like into next week those
0:03:09 > 0:03:12temperatures will be at or maybe even a bit above normal.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15It's certainly going to feel a lot warmer than it is right now.
0:03:15 > 0:03:19On to early May. Temperatures will be rising. That's a positive thing.
0:03:19 > 0:03:22However, it will be quite windy in the north and west of the UK,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24and that's where most of the rain is likely to be.
0:03:24 > 0:03:28Mostly dry in the south and east. But with those higher temperatures,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30frosts are certainly a lot less likely early May.
