0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello there. Our spell of wintry- feeling spring weather certainly

0:00:06 > 0:00:08continues for the next 24 hours or so.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Some milder weather on the horizon, as we look towards the weekend.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13But we're not there just yet. We've still got this area

0:00:13 > 0:00:16of low pressure influencing our weather.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18It's moved in across that cold air that's been in charge over

0:00:18 > 0:00:20the past week or so.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23So further wintry showers around on Friday across parts of Scotland,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26more persistent sleet and hill snow across the southern

0:00:26 > 0:00:29half of Scotland, into northern England, too.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Northern Ireland sees a return to sunshine.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Still some wintry showers here.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35And away from the far north of England

0:00:35 > 0:00:37and northern parts of Wales, for the rest of England

0:00:37 > 0:00:40and Wales, Friday starts on not a bad note, actually.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43A cold and a frosty morning to come for some of us,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45but there will be some sunshine on offer.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47So, as we head through the day, persistent sleet

0:00:47 > 0:00:50and hill snow for a time across parts of southern Scotland,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52northern England, too, so accumulations of snow

0:00:52 > 0:00:55for the Pennines, towards Snowdonia, as well.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57At lower levels, it will be mainly falling as rain.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00But away from this zone, for the rest of the UK,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02a day of sunshine and scattered showers.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05For some of us, it will feel a little bit warmer, 13 degrees or so.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08But particularly across southern Scotland and northern England,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10if you've got travel plans on Friday,

0:01:10 > 0:01:14that heavy snow could be causing some local travel disruption.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18As we look towards the weekend, we have got milder weather on the way,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20bringing us some sunshine, as well,

0:01:20 > 0:01:24also some rain, more particularly, by the time we get to Sunday.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27During Saturday, once we get rid of this area of low pressure,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29what we're going to be seeing is higher pressure, in fact,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32building in from the south-west, and that will quieten things down.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36So a chilly start to the day on Saturday, plenty of sunshine,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38much lighter winds than we've seen recently,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40just a few scattered showers building through the day.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42I think they'll be easing away from the west with that

0:01:42 > 0:01:44higher pressure building in later on.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48For most of us, we're back into double figures, 14 degrees or so,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50which will feel pleasant enough, towards the south-east.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Now, for much of England and Wales, we'll start off Sunday dry,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56sunny and feeling a bit warmer, certainly, than it has done.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59But we'll see wet and windy weather working in from the north-west

0:01:59 > 0:02:03heading into central parts of the UK later on Sunday.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05That's all down to this frontal system here,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and you can see fairly tight isobars around that, too, as it

0:02:07 > 0:02:11drifts its way gradually southwards and eastwards across the country,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13so there will be a spell of wet and windy weather.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Some uncertainty about the timings of this system,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19but it does look, as we head into Bank Holiday Monday,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22that we'll see some rain initially across the north-west of the UK,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24tending to move south-eastwards through the day.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Some sunshine either side of that wet and windy weather.

0:02:27 > 0:02:2916 degrees or so possible.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31By Tuesday, once that band of rain gets out of the way,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33we're left with a north-westerly air flow,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36bringing us a mix of sunshine, scattered showers.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Around about 10 to 15 degrees by the time we get to Tuesday.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Let's take a look at what the jet stream will be doing through

0:02:42 > 0:02:43the middle to the end of next week.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Well, it has been well to the south of the UK,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47allowing that cold northerly air.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50The jet is going to be moving its way gradually further north.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54Quite a strong jet, bringing air at upper levels mainly from the

0:02:54 > 0:02:58north-west, and that will deliver some milder weather on the way.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00If we look at what the temperatures have been doing,

0:03:00 > 0:03:03we've been well below average, pretty cold, really,

0:03:03 > 0:03:04for the past week or so.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06Things will now start to warm up

0:03:06 > 0:03:09over the next few days, and from Saturday onwards,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12we'll have temperatures much more typical of the time of year.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15So, as we look at the weather as we head through into early May,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18things are going to be remaining rather unsettled.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20There will be some rain, some windy conditions at times,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23particularly in the north-west, but things will be turning milder and

0:03:23 > 0:03:27we'll be losing that risk of wintry showers and overnight frosts, too.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye for now.
