0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. Fair to say most of us were glad to see the back of April.

0:00:05 > 0:00:09We had rain, hail, sleet and snow and temperatures well below average,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11but we closed out the month

0:00:11 > 0:00:13with something a little more traditional -

0:00:13 > 0:00:15sunshine and sharp showers.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19Now these Weather Watchers' pictures illustrate the stories beautifully.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22The showers gathered in strength and momentum into the afternoon,

0:00:22 > 0:00:26some with hail, even some rumbles of thunder.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28For Sunday, the first day of May,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30we keep this west to east divide

0:00:30 > 0:00:31and the first week of May

0:00:31 > 0:00:33looks pretty interesting. Keep listening.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35The best of the drier, sunnier weather

0:00:35 > 0:00:38likely across East Anglia and the south-east corner.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Clouding over a touch through the Midlands.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42A band of more persistent rain

0:00:42 > 0:00:44staying out into the west.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45By the middle of the afternoon,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47it's going to be wet and rather breezy

0:00:47 > 0:00:50through Northern Ireland, Western Scotland,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52perhaps sheltered eastern areas, east of the Pennines,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54just seeing the odd spot or two

0:00:54 > 0:00:57of light rain here, but north-west, well,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59the rain persistent all afternoon.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00The same for Wales.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02South-west England, some poor visibility,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03some low cloud

0:01:03 > 0:01:05and some light, patchy rain as well.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Into the Midlands, East Anglia,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09the south-east corner should stay dry and sunny

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and, here, pleasant as well in the sunshine.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14We should see highs of 15 or 16 degrees.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17A milder feel generally continuing across the country,

0:01:17 > 0:01:21with highs of around 10-16 Celsius.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Now, as we move out of Sunday

0:01:23 > 0:01:25into Monday, Bank Holiday Monday,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27there's a chance for more persistent rain.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Light and patchy through the night,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30but heavier rain,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32stronger winds start to gather.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Yes, coming from a westerly direction,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36so still milder, but there will be

0:01:36 > 0:01:38a spell of wet weather from west to east.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40As it clears the south-east corner,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43it leaves behind a trail of showers

0:01:43 > 0:01:44and highs generally

0:01:44 > 0:01:46of 10-15 degrees once more.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48But we start to see that weather front

0:01:48 > 0:01:49moving out of the way.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52A brief frontal system up into the far north-west

0:01:52 > 0:01:55continues to run the risk of some sharper showers

0:01:55 > 0:01:57and some stronger winds here,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59but generally speaking, Tuesday, a good deal

0:01:59 > 0:02:01of dry, usable weather in the offing.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Again, the best of the sunshine and warmth

0:02:03 > 0:02:04in the south-east corner.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07We will start to see a ridge of high pressure

0:02:07 > 0:02:08building from the south-west.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Now, the winds rotate in a clockwise direction,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13so that means a southerly flow

0:02:13 > 0:02:16will start to dominate the weather story.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17That's going to drag in something

0:02:17 > 0:02:20a little milder towards the end of the week.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22It's also going to be responsible for helping

0:02:22 > 0:02:24deflect the weather fronts

0:02:24 > 0:02:25up into the far north and west.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27The high pressure really trying

0:02:27 > 0:02:29to keep its grip across the UK.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Weather fronts pushing into the north-west,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33so it means really most of the rain

0:02:33 > 0:02:35just across north-west Scotland, Northern Ireland.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Central and southern parts of England and Wales

0:02:38 > 0:02:40should be largely fine and dry.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43More importantly, getting that little bit warmer.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Temperatures into the high teens likely.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Now, the warmer air will continue to dominate the weather story,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52particularly as we move towards Friday and into the weekend.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54We could see 20 degrees.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Again a good deal of dry weather.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Perhaps just cloudy into the far north.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00But how long will it last?

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Well, indications are that this warmth,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05these russet tones, will stay with us into next weekend

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and there is a possibility that we could see temperatures

0:03:08 > 0:03:11perhaps into the low 20s, because the jet stream is

0:03:11 > 0:03:15sitting in this kind of horseshoe direction at the moment,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17and the warm side of the jet

0:03:17 > 0:03:20driving those weather fronts to the north and west of us,

0:03:20 > 0:03:21and also being responsible for

0:03:21 > 0:03:23this southerly air, so yes, warmer.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25The chance of some thundery showers,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but also some sunshine.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Enjoy! I'll be back tomorrow.
