0:00:02 > 0:00:05Many of us were glad to see the back of the month of April.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07We had everything bar the kitchen sink
0:00:07 > 0:00:08thrown at us last week, didn't we?
0:00:08 > 0:00:12Yes, we had rain, we had hail, even some snow,
0:00:12 > 0:00:15as depicted by this fabulous weather-watcher's picture,
0:00:15 > 0:00:17and widespread frost across the country.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20However, change of month, change of weather type
0:00:20 > 0:00:23and with this week we are going to gradually see a warming trend.
0:00:23 > 0:00:27Perhaps into the weekend, temperatures into the low 20s -
0:00:27 > 0:00:30way above the average for this time of year.
0:00:30 > 0:00:31More on that in just a moment.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34Let's get back to the here and now and for the remainder of
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Bank Holiday Monday it looks likely that we will continue to see
0:00:37 > 0:00:40some wet and windy weather pushing in from the west,
0:00:40 > 0:00:42driving its way steadily south and east.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45Some of that rain heavy on west-facing slopes
0:00:45 > 0:00:47and the winds pretty strong as well.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Ahead of it, it'll stay dry for most of the day with rain
0:00:50 > 0:00:53arriving in the south-east corner by the end of the afternoon.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55Behind it, a trail of showers
0:00:55 > 0:01:00making its way across Northern Ireland into parts of Scotland,
0:01:00 > 0:01:03some of those showers quite intense but it will be milder than of late.
0:01:03 > 0:01:06A slice of sunshine as the rain starts to ease
0:01:06 > 0:01:08and not too many showers across northern England,
0:01:08 > 0:01:10Wales and the south-west,
0:01:10 > 0:01:13our weather front by the middle of the afternoon sitting through
0:01:13 > 0:01:16Lincolnshire down into East Anglia and the south-east corner.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19But those temperatures still on the mild side.
0:01:19 > 0:01:22Now, the rain will ease away through the night and behind
0:01:22 > 0:01:24we will see clearer skies across England
0:01:24 > 0:01:27and Wales but the winds still remain a feature to the north and west.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29We'll still keep some showers, some of them wintry
0:01:29 > 0:01:31for a time through the night and they will
0:01:31 > 0:01:35continue into Tuesday with high pressure building slowly but surely.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38Highs generally on Tuesday of around 10 to 16 degrees,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41a good deal of dry weather in the story.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44The high pressure then moves across England and Wales,
0:01:44 > 0:01:45allows for clearer skies
0:01:45 > 0:01:48and a chilly night into the start of Wednesday morning
0:01:48 > 0:01:51but pushes the weather front up into the north-west.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53Most of the unsettled weather will sit here.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55But that does mean that there is a potential,
0:01:55 > 0:01:58first thing on Wednesday, to see a light frost,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01perhaps the last of the frost we will see for quite some time.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04But there will be some lovely spells of sunshine across England
0:02:04 > 0:02:06and Wales and with a southerly wind,
0:02:06 > 0:02:08temperatures will recover to highs of 17 degrees.
0:02:08 > 0:02:12Wetter and windier weather continues up into the north-west
0:02:12 > 0:02:15and that frontal system will slowly edge its way south
0:02:15 > 0:02:18and east during Thursday but almost dying off in situ, really -
0:02:18 > 0:02:21a band of cloud, the odd spot or two of rain by then.
0:02:21 > 0:02:25Showers and breezy following on behind, dry, sunny and pleasantly
0:02:25 > 0:02:30warm by now with highs of 19 to 20 degrees not out of the question.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32As we move out of Thursday into Friday, we've got
0:02:32 > 0:02:35high pressure centred over to Scandinavia and this area of
0:02:35 > 0:02:39low pressure down into the south-west near Spain and Portugal.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42The position of that low could be quite interesting as to whether
0:02:42 > 0:02:47or how much it allows warm, moist air to move up from Africa.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51But it does look on Friday as though things will stay relatively quiet,
0:02:51 > 0:02:53relatively dry and relatively warm, really,
0:02:53 > 0:02:55with highs of 20 degrees,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57possibly warmer still as we move into Saturday.
0:02:57 > 0:03:01But always the risk of the threat of perhaps something a little
0:03:01 > 0:03:03more thundery as we move into the start of the weekend.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06So this trend looks likely to continue
0:03:06 > 0:03:10into the 8 to 10 day period, with high pressure into Scandinavia,
0:03:10 > 0:03:13low down into the south-west and that's allowing that
0:03:13 > 0:03:15warm, humid air to push up,
0:03:15 > 0:03:19but maybe also responsible for sparking off a few
0:03:19 > 0:03:23thundery downpours as those temperatures reach the mid-20s,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25potentially, into that 6 to 10 day period.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28So, a lot to look forward to over the next few days.
