0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. Spring is often a season torn between the past and the future.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Now, sometimes it likes to hang on to winter cold,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11and that's what we saw last week,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13temperatures struggling, frosty nights

0:00:13 > 0:00:16and, yes, some of us saw some snow.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19But at times, spring will also look to the future and give us a taste of

0:00:19 > 0:00:22what's to come in the summer months as temperatures

0:00:22 > 0:00:24go above normal for the time of year.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27Helped by some sunshine, everything bursts into life,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30and the lambs - and us - have a spring in our step.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34And that's what's going to be happening this week as we transition

0:00:34 > 0:00:37towards those warmer conditions as high pressure begins to build in.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40And as we're going to see, the pressure pattern sets up

0:00:40 > 0:00:44that we draw in warmer air our way. Not quite here yet, though.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48There'll be a fresh feel to things during Tuesday, a lot of sunshine.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Showers, though, still for Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:00:51 > 0:00:54still falling as snow over the very highest hills in Scotland.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58A few in England and Wales, but here they'll be very few and far between.

0:00:58 > 0:00:5916 in the sunny spells in London,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02closer to ten in the brisk breeze and showers in Glasgow.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04A few of those showers

0:01:04 > 0:01:06will continue to affect Scotland through Tuesday night,

0:01:06 > 0:01:10but watch out across southern parts of England and parts of Wales,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12where in the countryside, under light winds

0:01:12 > 0:01:14and clear skies, temperatures will dip,

0:01:14 > 0:01:17and still the potential as Wednesday begins here for a touch of frost.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21Looking at the picture for Wednesday, Atlantic weather systems

0:01:21 > 0:01:24still trying to have a go at us, but this one will struggle to

0:01:24 > 0:01:27make much of an inroad across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29The breeze will freshen, more cloud coming in.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Western parts of Scotland, maybe the far

0:01:31 > 0:01:33west of Northern Ireland will see outbreaks of rain.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Sunny spells for much of England and Wales,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and temperatures just heading up a few degrees.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41So, the Atlantic influence may still be felt across parts of Scotland

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and Northern Ireland on through this week

0:01:43 > 0:01:46until it gives way at the weekend into next week,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49whereas for the rest of the UK, the warmth is starting to come up

0:01:49 > 0:01:52from the south around an area of high pressure.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Now, on Thursday that weather system we saw on Wednesday towards

0:01:55 > 0:01:58the north-west of the UK, it's weakening to a band of cloud

0:01:58 > 0:02:02and a few spots of rain as it tries to edge further south into that

0:02:02 > 0:02:05area of high pressure, which is building in and holding firm.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Now, the pressure set-up at the end of the week is that high

0:02:08 > 0:02:11pressure is to the east of us, low pressure to the south of us.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14We're drawing in that warmer air from the Continent,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18starting to push up across the UK. However, it's not all plain sailing.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Remember that area of low pressure to the south?

0:02:20 > 0:02:24It may just start to feed in some energy towards us with the chance

0:02:24 > 0:02:28of picking up one or two thundery downpours to end the day on Friday.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31They become more of a feature potentially on Saturday.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33A lot of uncertainty about the position of where that

0:02:33 > 0:02:36rainfall may be and how heavy and possibly thundery it's going to be,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39but the idea is that some of that will push its way further

0:02:39 > 0:02:42northwards, particularly across the western side of the UK this weekend.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Always a chance, by the way, of an onshore flow towards the east coast.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48There could be a lot of low cloud and mistiness.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51That's something to be aware of. Now, that weather pattern again,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53high pressure to the east of us, low pressure to the south,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57drawing in the Continental warmth, continues into next week.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59But it's not all plain sailing,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02because the position of that low pressure throwing up

0:03:02 > 0:03:03bits of energy towards us

0:03:03 > 0:03:07does increase the potential for picking up some heavy downpours.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08So, we know for the weekend into next week

0:03:08 > 0:03:11it's going to be warmer, and that warmth is pushing its way north.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13There'll be some sunshine at times,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15but don't go away from this thinking it's clear blue sky.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18There is the potential for heavy downpours.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20It's that word "warm" I think we'll notice the most,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22and that transition to that spring

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and early-summer warmth is what we'll be talking about the most

0:03:25 > 0:03:29and probably will welcome the most. That's it for now. Bye-bye.
