0:00:02 > 0:00:04It feels like it's been a long time coming
0:00:04 > 0:00:05but could this be the week
0:00:05 > 0:00:08in which we can finally put the winter wardrobe away?
0:00:08 > 0:00:11We've got a temperature trend on the up through the next few days.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13For early May, we should see temperatures
0:00:13 > 0:00:15roughly around 14 across the UK.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17This is the general temperature trend, though, UK-wide
0:00:17 > 0:00:19as we go through the weekend and into next week.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22Of course, we're an island nation surrounded by water,
0:00:22 > 0:00:24some will be a little bit lower than this,
0:00:24 > 0:00:25some could get even higher -
0:00:25 > 0:00:27mid 20s for some through the weekend.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29But that trend to warmer conditions has begun.
0:00:29 > 0:00:31For Wednesday, high-pressure to the south-east of us,
0:00:31 > 0:00:32low pressure to the north-west.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35We're bringing in a generally south to south-westerly flow
0:00:35 > 0:00:36across the UK.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38Not completely dry on Wednesday.
0:00:38 > 0:00:39Weather fronts still close enough,
0:00:39 > 0:00:41due to that low pressure system in the north-west,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43to parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45Some outbreaks of rain but most'll have a dry day.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47The best of the Sunshine through England and Wales.
0:00:47 > 0:00:48Highs of 16-18 degrees.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51But even the east of Northern Ireland and around the Moray Firth
0:00:51 > 0:00:53could hit 13 or 14 Celsius.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56Now, the weather front that comes in late Wednesday
0:00:56 > 0:00:57tries to push its way south and east
0:00:57 > 0:01:00but it's meeting with that area of high pressure
0:01:00 > 0:01:02that I showed you to the south of the country.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04And the weather front just tends to fizzle out.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07So nothing more than a few splashes of rain by Thursday morning.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09And the air's getting progressively warmer.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12So no overnight frost expected.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15And then Thursday itself, high pressure more to the east,
0:01:15 > 0:01:16low pressure still to the north-west.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19That weather front still sandwiched between the two
0:01:19 > 0:01:21bringing a zone of slightly cloudy weather,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23with maybe some rain or drizzle on the hills.
0:01:23 > 0:01:24But, either side of it, some sunshine around.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27A bit breezy across Scotland, with a few showers.
0:01:27 > 0:01:28Not especially warm across the Hebrides.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31To the south-east we could see temperatures around 20 Celsius.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34Into the end of the week, high pressure is more dominant.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36Low pressure starting to develop in the Bay of Biscay
0:01:36 > 0:01:39and that switches the winds into a south to south-easterly direction,
0:01:39 > 0:01:41bringing that ever-warming trend our way -
0:01:41 > 0:01:44lifting temperatures across England and Wales under fairly sunny skies
0:01:44 > 0:01:47into the low 20s. But even across Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49we're looking at higher temperatures than last week.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52The low pressure which is pushing that south-easterly wind
0:01:52 > 0:01:54in our direction is very, very close
0:01:54 > 0:01:55and as we go into the weekend
0:01:55 > 0:01:57it will have a bit of an impact on the weather.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Temperatures may be rising but it won't be a clear cut of blue skies.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02More clouds, some outbreaks of rain developing
0:02:02 > 0:02:04across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07And as we see temperatures getting into the low, maybe even mid, 20s
0:02:07 > 0:02:09across England and Wales, a few thundery showers possible.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12But the south-easterly wind starts to push that cloud and rain
0:02:12 > 0:02:14ever further from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:02:14 > 0:02:15One or two showers possible.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18By this stage, western Scotland could get close to 20 degrees.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20Still a few heavy showers across England and Wales
0:02:20 > 0:02:21just about possible.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23But they should go away by Monday,
0:02:23 > 0:02:24which is looking like a largely dry day
0:02:24 > 0:02:26and, by and large, it's the first day
0:02:26 > 0:02:29where just about all will be enjoying some of that warmth,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31with a few notable exceptions.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33I mentioned at the start we're an island nation.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35The wind's coming in off the North Sea
0:02:35 > 0:02:36and at this time of year
0:02:36 > 0:02:39we're only just coming out of its coldest period.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41Temperatures still, on the surface of the sea,
0:02:41 > 0:02:42only eight or nine degrees.
0:02:42 > 0:02:44Get the wind blowing across that
0:02:44 > 0:02:46into some of these eastern coast of Scotland,
0:02:46 > 0:02:49north-east England and, with a bit of mist and fog possible,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51you will feel the chill, not quite as warm as elsewhere.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53So we start the week with low pressure to the south-west,
0:02:53 > 0:02:55high pressure to the south-east,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57those south-easterly winds bringing in the warmth.
0:02:57 > 0:02:58Some changes through the week.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00It does look like that low pressure system
0:03:00 > 0:03:02may just move a little bit closer.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04High then becoming more dominant to the north-west of the UK.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07So, to the south, we could start to see some thunderstorms
0:03:07 > 0:03:09and, with that high pressure moving further westwards,
0:03:09 > 0:03:11we start to bring in winds from the north-east again.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14So it's a trend that starts off dry and warm next week.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16Possibly turning a little bit cooler
0:03:16 > 0:03:18and, with that low pressure dominant towards the south,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20there's still the potential
0:03:20 > 0:03:22for some further heavy and thundery downpours.
0:03:22 > 0:03:23Either way, though,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25at the moment it's not set to get as cold as it has been
0:03:25 > 0:03:27and, at long last,
0:03:27 > 0:03:29a well-deserved warmer spell on the way for just about all.
0:03:29 > 0:03:30Bye for now.
