0:00:03 > 0:00:05Seven days is a long time in weather. At the end of last week,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08some were plunged back into the depths of winter - heavy snowfall.

0:00:08 > 0:00:09Barely a week later,

0:00:09 > 0:00:13we've had blue skies all the way from Blackpool through to Ibiza,

0:00:13 > 0:00:14on the brink of summer.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17And under those blue skies on Wednesday, temperatures started to

0:00:17 > 0:00:19soar, particularly across southern France and northern Spain.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21And that's important, because that is where

0:00:21 > 0:00:23we'll gradually be dragging our weather from.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26Elsewhere, though, not the same blue skies for all.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Cloud across Scotland and Northern Ireland. That's this weather front,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32which Thursday gets stranded in the far south-east of Scotland, north

0:00:32 > 0:00:35of England, Isle of Man down to the south of the Republic of Ireland.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37To the north and west of it, another blustery day.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40Quite breezy around the Hebrides. Sunshine and showers here.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42A bit more sunshine elsewhere across Scotland

0:00:42 > 0:00:45and Northern Ireland, and out of the breeze not feeling too bad.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48To the south of our weather front, we could still see drizzly rain.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51It's going to be another sunny and warm day, temperatures

0:00:51 > 0:00:55if not the high teens for some will be over 20 Celsius.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58And of course with a bit more in the way of warmth by day,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00we've got slightly warmer nights as well.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03The air's a little bit more humid than it was to start the week,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05so temperatures by night won't drop as much.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07There could be a few mist and fog patches.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Most around nine or ten Celsius. Chilliest in the north of Scotland.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14But here, the breeze eases down as we go through into Friday.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16High pressure gradually builds across the north.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Low pressure starting to develop towards the far south-west

0:01:19 > 0:01:21will increase the cloud amounts across England and Wales.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25Mainly high cloud at this stage, so hazy sunshine for the most part.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28The one fly in the ointment is that weak weather front.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30It's pushed northwards into north-east Scotland,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33limiting temperatures in Lerwick and Aberdeen to around ten Celsius.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36That slowly drags away as we go through into the weekend,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38but that low pressure starts to have more of a play,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41and we could bring thunderstorms to start the day

0:01:41 > 0:01:43across parts of Devon, Cornwall

0:01:43 > 0:01:46and also South Wales, pushed up from northern France.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49A weather front activates through the day across parts of

0:01:49 > 0:01:52northern England, Scotland, Northern Ireland. Turning wetter here.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54With windier conditions, feeling rather cool.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57But England and Wales, sunshine, when it breaks out,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00will lift temperatures widely into the low 20s.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Now, as that low-pressure system gradually pushes a little bit

0:02:03 > 0:02:05westwards, the south-easterly winds have more of a play,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08pushing the warmer air further north,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10chasing the rain clouds away from north-west Scotland,

0:02:10 > 0:02:13and so a warmer, sunnier day for the end of the weekend.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Scotland and Northern Ireland, some here hitting 20 Celsius.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18A few isolated and pretty intense thunderstorms

0:02:18 > 0:02:21could break out across parts of England and Wales

0:02:21 > 0:02:25as temperatures reach between 23 and 26 degrees.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28A little bit cooler along some eastern coasts of Scotland

0:02:28 > 0:02:29and north-east England.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32And if you're hoping to escape the heat inland

0:02:32 > 0:02:35and head towards the coast, taking a dip in the seas around the UK,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38just one word of caution - this is the time of year where the sea's

0:02:38 > 0:02:41coming out of its coldest part of the year, only eight to ten degrees.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43That does have an impact along eastern coasts.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46We could see some mist and sea fog develop through into Monday,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49which could lap onshore and keep temperatures limited here.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51But a lot of dry, sunny weather.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Warm weather the further north and west you are.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Still warm across England and Wales, by and large, for Monday,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59but with increased risk of cloud and some thunderstorms later.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01And that's because low pressure plays more of a part into

0:03:01 > 0:03:04the second half of next week across the south of the UK,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07either bringing up thunderstorms from the near Continent

0:03:07 > 0:03:09or growing our own as temperatures rise inland.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13High pressure starts to push towards the north-west of the UK, too, and

0:03:13 > 0:03:16that keeps the northern half of the UK largely dry through next week.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19But after dry and warm starts, that area of high pressure to the north,

0:03:19 > 0:03:23low pressure to the south starts to drag in something a bit cooler.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25As I said, northern half of the country largely dry,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27thundery downpours possible in the south.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Nick Miller will have more same time tomorrow.
