0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. The weather pattern this week has favoured England and Wales

0:00:06 > 0:00:09seeing the highest temperatures, but going to flip this around next week

0:00:09 > 0:00:12and it's the turn of Scotland and Northern Ireland, as we'll see in

0:00:12 > 0:00:15a moment. This is how things looked on Friday. More high cloud

0:00:15 > 0:00:18in the sky, the sunshine hazier as a result, but for England and Wales,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20those temperatures rose a little higher.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Northolt in north-west London, 24 Celsius,

0:00:23 > 0:00:27well, 23.8 to be precise, the UK's highest of the year so far.

0:00:27 > 0:00:28Threave, south-west Scotland, 18.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31The rest of Scotland and Northern Ireland lower than that,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34not yet in the warmer continental air. That's going to change

0:00:34 > 0:00:36by Sunday. This, though, is Saturday.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39The weather system sneaking up the western side of the UK

0:00:39 > 0:00:41and for some, here, things are taking a backward step

0:00:41 > 0:00:43and that means more cloud around.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45From it, as you can see, across western parts,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48you get some outbreaks of rain, maybe some thundery downpours.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Into the afternoon, parts of the Midlands running into northern

0:00:51 > 0:00:54England, the chance for a few intense thunderstorms breaking out,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56so be aware of that possibility.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Just as warm in the sunshine in south-east England,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00while still relatively average

0:01:00 > 0:01:02across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06But going into Sunday, that weather system begins to pull away

0:01:06 > 0:01:10and we start to draw that warmer continental air further north.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Follow the wind arrows here, it's that warmth that's been coming

0:01:13 > 0:01:16in from the continent to England and Wales over the past few days.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Follow the wind arrows, it's finally reaching into Scotland

0:01:19 > 0:01:20and Northern Ireland on Sunday,

0:01:20 > 0:01:23away that is from the immediate east coast where you've got that

0:01:23 > 0:01:26onshore breeze keeping temperatures down compared with elsewhere.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Once any early showers and thunderstorms clear

0:01:29 > 0:01:32away from western parts, you get the sunshine coming out.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35The temperature's starting to head up and on Sunday, finally into

0:01:35 > 0:01:38western Scotland, into Northern Ireland, a few of us getting into

0:01:38 > 0:01:40the low 20s. But the highest temperature is on Sunday.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Look again as they're going to be across the south-east England -

0:01:43 > 0:01:4526 Celsius is possible.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Now the set-up into next week is changing things around,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50because low pressure starts to become more dominant across the

0:01:50 > 0:01:52southern half of the UK with high-pressure

0:01:52 > 0:01:54holding on to the north.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57So it is initially on Monday across southern England and south Wales

0:01:57 > 0:01:58we run the risk of thicker cloud,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00getting some outbreaks of rain or thunderstorms,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04bringing the temperature down a few degrees, whereas for the northern

0:02:04 > 0:02:06half of the UK, again away from the cooler east coast,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09you get the best of the sunshine, you get the higher temperatures

0:02:09 > 0:02:11especially into Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15That set-up is still around as we go from Monday into Tuesday.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18The area of low pressure, spiralling around it some weather fronts,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21getting pulses of thundery rain or thundery showers breaking out,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24perhaps a little bit further north as well on Tuesday,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but still the northern half of the UK seeing

0:02:26 > 0:02:29the best of the weather and the highest temperatures. Again, low 20s

0:02:29 > 0:02:32for some across western parts of Scotland.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34On Wednesday, it's all shifting a bit further north

0:02:34 > 0:02:36that chance for showers and thunderstorms,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39but still relatively high pressure for Scotland

0:02:39 > 0:02:41and for Northern Ireland, the far north of England.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43So for much of next week, across southern parts, yes,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46there will be occasional warm sunshine, but temperatures not

0:02:46 > 0:02:48as high, because at times it'll be cloudier

0:02:48 > 0:02:51and wetter with some outbreaks of thundery rain.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Whereas for the northern half of the UK next week -

0:02:53 > 0:02:56northern England, Northern Ireland, especially into Scotland - you'll

0:02:56 > 0:02:59maintain plenty of fine weather with high pressure in control

0:02:59 > 0:03:01and for a change, we'll be hearing about some of the highest

0:03:01 > 0:03:04temperatures in western Scotland compared with what you always hear,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07south-east England. This is the forecast that looks further ahead

0:03:07 > 0:03:10and next weekend it looks like things are going to change.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13I'm going to begin to look towards the Atlantic for our weather again.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14Showers become a little bit more widespread,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17that easterly wind keeping eastern coastal parts relatively cool.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19That'll cut off as we look to a westerly,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21so along the east coast next weekend,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24temperatures might actually head-up a little bit,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26whereas elsewhere, it's gradually becoming less warm.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29Still, temperatures close to or perhaps a little bit above

0:03:29 > 0:03:31the average for the time of year. That's it for now.
