0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's that time of day when we take a look further ahead at

0:00:05 > 0:00:07the weather trends for the next six to ten days,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10and whether the heat will continue. It has been another very warm day.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14We had 25 degrees Celsius again in Porthmadog in north-west Wales,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16West Freugh not far behind with 23.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19A little cooler around some of the Scottish coast in the north

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and we were plagued by cloud and showers in the Channel Islands.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Across south-west England it was quite low cloud at times

0:00:24 > 0:00:26and some thunderstorms broke out -

0:00:26 > 0:00:28eventually they rumbled their way through.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Overnight, temperatures will fall back to about

0:00:30 > 0:00:328 to 10 degrees Celsius under a blanket of cloud

0:00:32 > 0:00:33moving in off the North Sea.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36That's likely to be with us across some parts of England

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and Wales first thing Friday morning.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40It is a little bit grey first thing, could be

0:00:40 > 0:00:42quite misty over the hills, certainly for East Wales,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45across the Midlands, into the north and east of England.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Hopefully more sunshine to greet us across parts of Northern Ireland

0:00:48 > 0:00:51but a cloudy start to the day across Scotland with a few showers,

0:00:51 > 0:00:54and that is courtesy of a weak weather front.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56It is not going to produce too much rain on it,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59this cold weather front, but as the name suggests, it is going to

0:00:59 > 0:01:02introduce colder air eventually right the way across the country.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04So still that warm air is to the south

0:01:04 > 0:01:07and we've still got a few showers to contend with, but fewer than we saw

0:01:07 > 0:01:11during Thursday across the south-west and the Channel Islands.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14But we will see notably lower temperatures further north -

0:01:14 > 0:01:15still pleasant enough in the sunshine

0:01:15 > 0:01:17but 10 degrees down on those of Thursday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21Still a lot of sunshine allowing the temperatures to really leap up

0:01:21 > 0:01:24in the south and some unusually strong sunshine, actually,

0:01:24 > 0:01:25for this time of year -

0:01:25 > 0:01:28up into the high category even into Northern Ireland.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30That cold weather front continues its progress southward

0:01:30 > 0:01:34through Friday night. Behind it, the pressure is building, which is

0:01:34 > 0:01:37why we won't see a great deal more than a few drizzly showers on it.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40But what we will find is a much colder night as we head

0:01:40 > 0:01:43towards dawn on Saturday with some ground frost around,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45so gardeners beware.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Then, as we head into the weekend, it looks as if the west will

0:01:48 > 0:01:51see the best of the sunshine, closer to the area of high pressure.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Further east there will be a little more cloud,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55that breeze, just the odd shower.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57But for the majority, even though

0:01:57 > 0:01:59temperatures will be down on what they have been,

0:01:59 > 0:02:03it will feel very pleasant outside the wind in the strong May sunshine.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Yes, the sunshine will just be as strong despite some

0:02:06 > 0:02:09temperatures 10 degrees lower than we've seen in recent days.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Then a very similar story on Sunday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13So some really usable weather

0:02:13 > 0:02:15if you have the weekend off and you want to get out and about

0:02:15 > 0:02:18but just bear in mind there will be some strong sunshine.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19So it is staying largely dry and fresh.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22There will be variable cloud but some fine days, some sunshine.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24It's just going to be chilly at night -

0:02:24 > 0:02:27there could even be a touch of air frost in some of the Scottish glens.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31But early next we should start to see things warming up a little bit.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34That high pressure moves in, we lose the northerly breeze

0:02:34 > 0:02:37and at this time of year the sun is so strong that it will

0:02:37 > 0:02:39warm things up generally.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41So there is that nose of high pressure coming back in for

0:02:41 > 0:02:45the early part of the week and then low pressure starts to move in.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48As that first one moves away, if you were watching last night,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51John talked about the uncertainty as to where the areas of low pressure

0:02:51 > 0:02:52will come following that.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55It looks as if they are more likely to come towards

0:02:55 > 0:02:57the north-west of the UK, so more cloud, I think,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59around as we head through the latter part of the week.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02But with that high pressure starting to nudge into southern

0:03:02 > 0:03:05parts of the UK, it is here where we will see the more settled weather.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08So it looks like an unsettled start to the week,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11it tends drier midweek as those temperatures starts to rise,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14high pressure comes in, but the north and west I think always

0:03:14 > 0:03:18at risk of seeing some cloud and some rain on those weather fronts.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20As ever, we'll keep you up-to-date here

0:03:20 > 0:03:23and there's more across the website.
