0:00:03 > 0:00:06It's that time of day when we take a look forward at the weather trends

0:00:06 > 0:00:08for the next 6 to 10 days.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10But before we do, let's talk about the weekend.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14Now, just two weekends ago we had snow in the forecast.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18Last weekend followed the warmest weekend of the year so far.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21This weekend, somewhere in the middle - around about average.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Temperatures have certainly lowered in the north

0:00:23 > 0:00:26through the day on Friday behind this cold front

0:00:26 > 0:00:29because it has introduced a lot more cloud and colder air

0:00:29 > 0:00:31and that process continues through the night.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34So after the muggy nights that we've seen through the week,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37a much colder start to our Saturday morning

0:00:37 > 0:00:39with some grass frost around.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Gardeners beware - this weekend we will have cold,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43potentially frosty nights.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46So after a cold start, some sunshine around,

0:00:46 > 0:00:47but it will feel quite chilly

0:00:47 > 0:00:50because of that brisk wind near eastern coasts and here we'll likely

0:00:50 > 0:00:53see a bit more cloud bubbling up and perhaps a few showers.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55The west looks best for sunshine.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58And indeed, after the cloudy day across Scotland,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01more sunshine through Saturday will make it feel warmer.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Temperatures will lift into the, well, mid teens, potentially.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Not as warm for Northern Ireland as we've seen in recent days,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09or indeed across Wales and the south-west.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12We will have lost that muggy air which resulted

0:01:12 > 0:01:14in a few storms through Friday evening.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15It will be a very different day here

0:01:15 > 0:01:18and already that fresher air was with us further east.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21But even though temperatures have fallen,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23the forecast UV levels are still high,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26even in Scotland, actually, during the day on Saturday.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28It's not temperature-dependent, so bear that in mind.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Chilly start on Sunday morning, some grass frost potentially.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Starting to lose the northerly wind, though, on Sunday,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35so hopefully giving us some sunshine

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and without the breeze it should feel pleasant enough.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41But again, I think eastern areas will see rather more cloud

0:01:41 > 0:01:43and the risk of a few showers around.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44So, let's sum up the weekend.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47Yes, it's going to be cooler than it has been through the week.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50We'll have the chilly nights but we will have some sunny spells,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52some dry weather, very usable weather.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55And that settled trend continues into Monday.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Again, some sunshine coming through, winds generally light,

0:01:58 > 0:02:02so it'll feel warm enough in that strong May sunshine.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05By Tuesday, however, things are starting to look

0:02:05 > 0:02:08a little bit messier - more unsettled.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11We start to pick up our first Atlantic low pressure,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14so it starts to bring in, we think later in the day,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16the rain across the western side of the country,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19and that's this area of low pressure.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Now, detail from day to day we will, of course, fine tune,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25but it looks as if this one will bring some fairly heavy rain

0:02:25 > 0:02:26and potentially some strong winds,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29even some gales depending on how deep it becomes.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32And it looks as if probably Tuesday night into Wednesday

0:02:32 > 0:02:34we will see the heaviest rain.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37We could see - we COULD see some quite nasty conditions

0:02:37 > 0:02:41for a time, so that's one that we are going to watch quite closely.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44That then clears out the way but already you can see behind me

0:02:44 > 0:02:49we've got more rain, so more weather fronts waiting in the wings.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52So whilst earlier in the week we thought things would start to

0:02:52 > 0:02:54settle down with a passage of low pressure,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56it now looks as if the jet stream, our upper winds,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59will be blowing those low pressures right across the UK.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Obviously any perturbations in that jet stream

0:03:02 > 0:03:05will determine how far to the north or indeed to the south

0:03:05 > 0:03:08the low pressures, the subsequent low pressures, take their track,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and of course how much rain we will see towards

0:03:11 > 0:03:12the north or the south,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15but whilst it was looking earlier in the week as if

0:03:15 > 0:03:16by the end of the coming week

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and into the weekend things will be settling down and warming up,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21it now looks as if it might be

0:03:21 > 0:03:24the beginning of the following week before we see that trend.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27So at the moment it looks like we'll see average temperatures

0:03:27 > 0:03:29with some sunshine and also some rain at times.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30We'll keep you updated.
