0:00:02 > 0:00:05Thanks for joining me. We've been forecasting an unsettled week

0:00:05 > 0:00:08and it's certainly turning out to be like that, from the showers,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11the downpours of Wednesday, to a bit of sunshine on Thursday -

0:00:11 > 0:00:14not for everybody, though - then by the time we get to the weekend,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17looks like the raincoats and umbrellas will be out again

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and a mix of whether heading our way. It's very changeable

0:00:19 > 0:00:23because these weather systems keep on forming out in the Atlantic,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25they're being pushed in our direction

0:00:25 > 0:00:27by this undulating jet stream,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30a trough here, a ridge, another trough and another ridge again.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32When we get this sort of snaky pattern,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35we get lots of weather systems forming out there in the Atlantic.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38That's what actually happens with the atmosphere,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40it's the up-and-down motion that creates all these weather systems

0:00:40 > 0:00:43and then if the jet stream's strong enough,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45it pushes the weather systems in our direction

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and here's another one, another front heading our way for Thursday.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51There will be a bit of a west-east split during the afternoon,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53so we've got the cloud and rain

0:00:53 > 0:00:55across some of these south-western parts although I think

0:00:55 > 0:00:58in Cornwall and Devon it's not going to be too wet,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59just light bits and pieces of rain.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Could end up being actually a fine day across the south-east,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03East Anglia, most of the Midlands

0:01:03 > 0:01:05and quite possibly into Yorkshire as well,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Middlesbrough, some sunshine there,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Newcastle just about getting away with it,

0:01:09 > 0:01:13but head a little bit further west and north and it's looking soggy,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16in fact, pretty chilly across parts of Scotland.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Within that rain, very little sunshine obviously there,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21so temperatures only around 11 degrees,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24but once the rain band moves through Northern Ireland, you can see

0:01:24 > 0:01:27the temperatures recover a little bit, up to around 15 Celsius.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30The rain across Wales probably heaviest in the hills.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34Further south it will be only light and patchy.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Then as we head into Friday, we're still close to that low pressure,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40so the weather will remain fairly unsettled

0:01:40 > 0:01:42in north-western parts of Scotland here.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Some showers, I think, for the Western Isles,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47showers maybe getting into the Lowlands too,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49but for many of us it's actually going to be not a bad day.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Some sunshine there for most of England

0:01:52 > 0:01:56until this next weather system arrives later on in the day,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58and actually, this weather system here

0:01:58 > 0:02:02will splash its way across the UK during the course of Friday night,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05so if you are out Friday night, expect some rain,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and here's the weather system pushing through

0:02:07 > 0:02:10during the Friday evening hours

0:02:10 > 0:02:13and into early Saturday as well.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16So, Saturday, I think by the time we get up,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18most of this rain here will be out in the North Sea.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21The low pressure still close by,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24still a bit of a breeze coming out of the south-west around it

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and some showers, but there will be some sunshine too,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29so certainly not raining all the time.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33Sunday, some uncertainty exactly how much rainfall we're going to get

0:02:33 > 0:02:35and where the rain is going to fall.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37I think the best message for Sunday

0:02:37 > 0:02:40is take a brolly if you're out for any lengthy period of time.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42There will be some sunshine around

0:02:42 > 0:02:45but those showers could strike almost at any time,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47then it starts to settle down a little bit on Monday,

0:02:47 > 0:02:50quite a cool north-westerly breeze,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and high pressure starts to build

0:02:52 > 0:02:54just to the west of our neighbourhood,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56so that does mean that for Monday-Tuesday,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59things do turn a little bit drier and quieter

0:02:59 > 0:03:02before, the current thinking is,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04low pressure starts to form to the south-west of us

0:03:04 > 0:03:07and gets pushed in our direction once again,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10so that high pressure doesn't linger for very long early in the week,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14and then later in the week, that low looks as though it's going to win,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16but at least with the wind spiralling light,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18so you can just about imagine it scoops up some warm air

0:03:18 > 0:03:20and sends it in our direction,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23so there is quite a bit of uncertainty with these highs

0:03:23 > 0:03:27and lows, when the high arrives and fades away, but at least we know

0:03:27 > 0:03:29it is going to be relatively warm. Bye-bye.
