0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. Welcome. The weather's going to take on
0:00:05 > 0:00:06a completely different complexion,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09but at the moment, well, it feels like summer out there,
0:00:09 > 0:00:12with long sunny spells, blue skies...
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Mind you, humidity is high,
0:00:14 > 0:00:17and it's that combination of heat and humidity
0:00:17 > 0:00:20which in some places is sparking some thunderstorms.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23We saw some on Monday, we're going to see some scattered around the UK
0:00:23 > 0:00:26over the next few days. Very localised, very hit-and-miss,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28but if you catch one, yes, it could be quite nasty.
0:00:28 > 0:00:29In fact, the odd storm
0:00:29 > 0:00:32first thing in the morning across the south-east.
0:00:32 > 0:00:33These will tend to fade away,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36but some showers further north and west across the UK,
0:00:36 > 0:00:40and although many of us will have a lot of fine, dry, sunny weather,
0:00:40 > 0:00:43showers will develop more widely come the afternoon.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46Now, nailing down exactly where these storms are going to occur
0:00:46 > 0:00:48is a bit of a job.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51So take this map... not too literally.
0:00:51 > 0:00:54Shows the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms
0:00:54 > 0:00:56through the afternoon. Many of us will avoid these,
0:00:56 > 0:00:59but if you catch one, it'll be quite torrential -
0:00:59 > 0:01:00some hail, some gusty winds,
0:01:00 > 0:01:03the possibility of some flash flooding as well.
0:01:03 > 0:01:06Lot of warmth out there, slightly higher temperatures than on Monday
0:01:06 > 0:01:07across central and eastern areas.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10Still cool around the north-eastern coast of Scotland
0:01:10 > 0:01:12but inland, with that heat and humidity,
0:01:12 > 0:01:15yes, some nasty thunderstorms. Up over the high ground, mostly,
0:01:15 > 0:01:18but they'll drift into populated areas as well, I think,
0:01:18 > 0:01:20as we head into the evening time.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23So if you are on the move, watch out for the potential of thunderstorms,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26the possibility of some flash flooding.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29Check out your BBC local radio station for travel disruption.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31So these showers rumbling on into the night
0:01:31 > 0:01:35and the odd one could continue into Wednesday morning, in actual fact.
0:01:35 > 0:01:39The potential for further showers around, but some warm sunshine too.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41Probably fewer showers by Thursday,
0:01:41 > 0:01:43temperatures just beginning to ease down a touch.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46Still some humidity out there through Wednesday and Thursday,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48but it's not going to last forever.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51Fresher conditions trying to come in off the Atlantic.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53The catch is, with those fresher conditions,
0:01:53 > 0:01:57we'll also see some fairly active weather fronts and they'll start to
0:01:57 > 0:02:00push in our direction just in time for the weekend.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02In fact, Friday is the switchover day, really -
0:02:02 > 0:02:05a very different look to the weather chart on Friday.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07A lot more cloud around. Bands of rain pushing in from the west,
0:02:07 > 0:02:10and we could see some fairly prolonged wet weather
0:02:10 > 0:02:13up and down the UK. Again, don't take this chart too literally,
0:02:13 > 0:02:15but it gives us the potential for some heavy rain,
0:02:15 > 0:02:18and temperatures will be lower for many of us than they have been.
0:02:18 > 0:02:23On into the weekend, then. Bands of rain pushing in from the south-west.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26Some drier spells in between, some pleasant sunshine,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29but don't rely on that sunshine, because further showers,
0:02:29 > 0:02:32longer spells of rain could well develop later on in the day.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35I'm going to take you down to Florida,
0:02:35 > 0:02:39where we have Tropical Storm Colin, the third named storm of the season.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42It's bringing a lot of heavy rain into Florida as I speak.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45Now, the track of Colin is going to be quite interesting
0:02:45 > 0:02:48over the next few days. It's going to push up the Eastern Seaboard
0:02:48 > 0:02:51and then into the Atlantic. It will no longer be a tropical storm,
0:02:51 > 0:02:54but it's going to inject a lot of energy into the Atlantic
0:02:54 > 0:02:56and into the jet stream in particular.
0:02:56 > 0:02:58So the jet stream is going to start to liven up
0:02:58 > 0:03:01as we head toward the weekend and indeed beyond.
0:03:01 > 0:03:05In fact, next week it's going to be tracking its way to the south of us,
0:03:05 > 0:03:08so we're going to be on the northern side, the cool side of that,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10and this little dip in the jet stream,
0:03:10 > 0:03:12we're going to get an area of low pressure
0:03:12 > 0:03:15pretty much lodged slap-bang on top of us.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17A slow-moving area of low pressure. What does that mean?
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Certainly cooler. We're all going to see some wet weather at times,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23some of that quite heavy. There will be some drier spells,
0:03:23 > 0:03:26but certainly not the sort of drier spells that you can rely upon.
0:03:26 > 0:03:29We'll give you another update again tomorrow.
