0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. We're going to see and feel quite a dramatic weather change

0:00:05 > 0:00:07as we go through Friday and into the weekend.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10It's going to turn much fresher, much cooler,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12so we're going to lose the warmth and humidity and energy

0:00:12 > 0:00:15that's been sparking all the thunderstorms

0:00:15 > 0:00:16over the past couple of days.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18This image of a lightning strike

0:00:18 > 0:00:20taken by one of our Weather Watchers.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22Chance of getting more lightning strikes,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24particularly during Wednesday afternoon.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26Most places having a drier morning. Quite a lot more cloud

0:00:26 > 0:00:29across the north-east and with the breeze coming in from the North Sea,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31those eastern coasts fresher once more.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Elsewhere, the warmth and humidity will trigger

0:00:33 > 0:00:35some further thundery downpours -

0:00:35 > 0:00:38not as extensive, not as numerous as the ones on Tuesday.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41And again, like Tuesday, the south-west of England

0:00:41 > 0:00:42and much of South Wales staying dry.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Shouldn't see too many storms across the south-east either,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and temperatures here 24, 25 degrees.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Much cooler on the east coast, but inland, some warm sunshine.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51And then we come to the zone

0:00:51 > 0:00:54where we're most likely to see those thunderstorms.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56North-west England, west Wales, Western Scotland.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Should be a dry day, though, in Northern Ireland,

0:00:59 > 0:01:03and quite gloomy and pretty chilly across the far north-east.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Those thundery downpours fade on Wednesday evening

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and most of us dry on Thursday, but again, quite misty on some coasts,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11increasing risk of mist and sea fog

0:01:11 > 0:01:13around western coasts during Thursday.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Isolated thunderstorms, but most places dry,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and in the sunshine, again, quite warm and humid.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23So a couple more days of the warm and humid air sitting across the UK

0:01:23 > 0:01:26but then the change - weather fronts streaming in from the Atlantic,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29bringing Atlantic air, bringing fresher air.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32We'll start to see that process during Friday, outbreaks of rain

0:01:32 > 0:01:33sweeping across the UK.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37Could be left with some of that rain across the east early on Saturday,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39some uncertainty about the timings of these weather fronts.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Following on from that, it won't rain all day on Saturday,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45there'll be bright or sunny spells, but there will be plentiful showers.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Temperatures already dropping down a bit on Saturday,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and that process continues on Sunday as we have the potential

0:01:51 > 0:01:53for another rather aggressive weather front to sweep in.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Again, the timings will be uncertain,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59but lots of isobars on the chart, it turns breezy

0:01:59 > 0:02:03as that band of potentially quite heavy rain sweeps its way in

0:02:03 > 0:02:06followed by more showers. Again, temperatures will be a notch lower,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09struggling just into the high teens at best.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10Looking further afield in time,

0:02:10 > 0:02:14we have to look much further afield across the Atlantic,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18and take on board what's going on off the south-east of the US.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20What's left of Tropical Storm Colin.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Look at the way the cloud is swirling here across the Atlantic.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26That is basically the form of the jet stream at the moment,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28and at the base of it we have Colin.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Now, Colin is no longer a tropical storm,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33but it will still bring a lot of energy

0:02:33 > 0:02:37and a lot of humidity as it tracks its way across the Atlantic,

0:02:37 > 0:02:38interacting with the jet stream.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41So the jet stream no longer meandering -

0:02:41 > 0:02:44by the time we get to Sunday and Monday next week,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47the jet stream will be coming more directly across the Atlantic

0:02:47 > 0:02:51towards the UK. And we are on the cold side of that jet stream,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53a breeding ground for low-pressure systems,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57so that's how things will change into the early part of next week.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00With low pressure sitting across the UK, it's going to be

0:03:00 > 0:03:02significantly cooler than it is now.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04There'll be rain at times for all of us,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07some dry and bright spells in between.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Now, looking a little further ahead,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12it looks as if there signs that that low-pressure system

0:03:12 > 0:03:13may start to ebb away,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16so if you're after something drier and brighter,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18then better prospects later next week

0:03:18 > 0:03:20with high pressure potentially building in.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22But there's always going to be uncertainty,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24particularly when we've got tropical storms involved.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27So we'll continue to monitor it

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and we'll continue to keep you updated. Goodbye.
