0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. At this time of year, summer fetes and sports days clutter

0:00:06 > 0:00:09our home calendars. What we need is a spell of prolonged sunshine.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12Think again. It stays unsettled this week. Yet again,

0:00:12 > 0:00:16Tuesday brings another day of slow-moving showers,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18some heavy and thundery.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20A spell of more persistent rain pushing in to the north-east

0:00:20 > 0:00:23of Scotland after a glorious Monday here.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26Cooler as well in the far north-east, 12 or 13 degrees.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29In between the showers, if you get sunshine

0:00:29 > 0:00:32we should see highs of 20 degrees, 68 Fahrenheit,

0:00:32 > 0:00:34in the south-east.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Moving out of Tuesday, you can see plenty of showers

0:00:38 > 0:00:41but they will fade away for a time, with the exception of the far

0:00:41 > 0:00:44north, more persistent rain lingers throughout the night.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Temperatures stay widely into double figures.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49But on Wednesday,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52still that area of low pressure influencing the weather story

0:00:52 > 0:00:55and we have still got more of a northerly flow to the north.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56Underneath the cloud and the rain,

0:00:56 > 0:01:01it will start to feel fresher, driving in outbreaks of rain

0:01:01 > 0:01:05across central and southern areas of Scotland and a cooler feel here.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Sunny spells and scattered showers elsewhere.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10If you dodge the showers and you get the sunshine,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13shouldn't feel too bad but even so, temperatures down a degree are so.

0:01:13 > 0:01:19Highest values of 19 degrees, only 11 to 13 in the far north and east.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Still that area of low pressure with us, still that northerly flow.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25You can see that by the isobars starting to descend further

0:01:25 > 0:01:30south and so a fresher feel perhaps for all by Thursday,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32particularly into the north.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36It will be cooler but showers should be fairly isolated, more widespread

0:01:36 > 0:01:40across England and Wales. 11 to 15 degrees to the north,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43highs of 17 to 20 further south.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Into Friday, again

0:01:45 > 0:01:47a northerly flow taking over across the country

0:01:47 > 0:01:50so despite some sunshine and a drier feel to the south,

0:01:50 > 0:01:54temperatures a notch or so down, 17 or 18 at the very best.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57We will start to see an area of high pressure

0:01:57 > 0:02:00building from the south-west, the Azores High, but watch it,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03already into Saturday it is starting to change shape.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07That is going to be important with our six-to-ten-day outlook.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10It does look as though the start to the weekend likely

0:02:10 > 0:02:12to be the best day of the week.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Quieting down, drying up with more sunshine coming through.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18So despite 12 to 18 degrees again, with the sunshine

0:02:18 > 0:02:20it will feel a bit better.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22This is the story throughout this week,

0:02:22 > 0:02:26an area of low pressure anchored across the UK. Why?

0:02:26 > 0:02:27Why is it not going very far?

0:02:27 > 0:02:31It is all due, yes, you guessed it, to the jet stream.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34A very weak jet at the moment,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37so much so it is diffusing almost into two.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40It doesn't have the oomph to push that area of low pressure

0:02:40 > 0:02:42out of the way.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Hence the reason that each day this week is fairly typical,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48sunshine and sharp, slow-moving showers.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Eventually it will move away and allow that Azores High to

0:02:51 > 0:02:54build from the south-west but not for very long.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Start of the weekend looks promising,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57but then the high-pressure tilts

0:02:57 > 0:03:02and that potentially could allow, again, to open

0:03:02 > 0:03:06the door to further low pressures moving in from the Atlantic.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09So it will be a brief respite into the start of the weekend

0:03:09 > 0:03:11before we see more showers returning.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15So the longer outlook remains somewhat like this.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17It does look as though the weekend will be slightly more promising,

0:03:17 > 0:03:21a sunnier weekend, and as a result, it will feel a little warmer.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23But the showers never too far away.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26It does look as though further areas of low pressure into the early

0:03:26 > 0:03:29half of next week are set to return.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30More details coming up.
