0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. First, let's take stock of what's happened

0:00:06 > 0:00:08so far this June, because it's been quite an interesting

0:00:08 > 0:00:10month as far as the stats are concerned.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12It's been a month dominated by easterly winds.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13That's affected the temperatures.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16Blue colours on this Met Office chart show where temperatures

0:00:16 > 0:00:17have been below average,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18easterly winds off a cold sea

0:00:18 > 0:00:21which have then warmed as they've worked their way westwards,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24red colours showing where temperatures have been

0:00:24 > 0:00:25largely above average.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Rainfall amounts: bet you wouldn't have thought Shetland was the driest

0:00:28 > 0:00:31place in the month so far - up until the overnight rain,

0:00:31 > 0:00:32just three millimetres of rain here.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35Nottinghamshire, Sutton Bonington, we've seen almost two months' worth

0:00:35 > 0:00:37of June rainfall,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39and that's because of those slow-moving storms last week.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42We've got rid of them, introduced westerly winds to start this week,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45clearing away some of that overnight rain, though that will linger

0:00:45 > 0:00:48over East Anglia and the south-east towards the end of the day.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50A few heavy showers before it gradually clears.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Elsewhere, brighter skies through the summer solstice

0:00:52 > 0:00:54with sunshine a bit more abundant

0:00:54 > 0:00:56through the afternoon than the morning.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58But because it's westerly winds, one or two showers

0:00:58 > 0:01:01coming in the breeze, and it's to the east of high ground

0:01:01 > 0:01:03where we'll see the highest temperatures,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05namely eastern Scotland and the north-east of England.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08So, more sunshine to end the day than we began.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10And if you want to see the solstice sunset,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12you'll have to wait up till gone half past ten in Lerwick,

0:01:12 > 0:01:16around quarter past nine in Dover, and hopefully we will see late sun,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19the weather fronts clearing through into the near Continent

0:01:19 > 0:01:20on that westerly flow,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22which eases a little bit as we go into Tuesday,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25the jet stream weakening but strong enough to bring weather fronts

0:01:25 > 0:01:28very close to north-west Scotland. Northern Ireland, occasional rain.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31The odd shower across other western areas, but many of you

0:01:31 > 0:01:33will be dry on Tuesday - quite a pleasant day, sunny spells,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36driest and warmest towards the east of the country.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40There will, however, be a trailing weather front close to the English

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Channel, which may keep things gloomy across

0:01:42 > 0:01:45in the Channel Islands, and that separates us

0:01:45 > 0:01:49from building heat and humidity again across parts of France

0:01:49 > 0:01:51which, through Wednesday, could get scooped up

0:01:51 > 0:01:55and start to be pushed towards us by this low pressure to the north-west.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57The winds going more southerly could bring

0:01:57 > 0:01:59that humid air towards East Anglia and the south-east.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Away from it, not a bad day, warm enough in the sunshine,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04a few showers for Scotland, Northern Ireland, but a lot of dry weather.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07But as the humidity levels rise later on, there is

0:02:07 > 0:02:09the chance of storms in the Channel Islands

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and then the south-east and East Anglia.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Now, this far ahead, it's always very difficult to see how far

0:02:14 > 0:02:16east, how far west they come.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19They could be further west. They may not even give us a glancing blow

0:02:19 > 0:02:20and stay across Belgium and the Netherlands.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24But it's something to bear in mind through Wednesday and Thursday.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27And with this low pressure starting to become more dominant across

0:02:27 > 0:02:28western areas of the UK,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31showers will be a bit more frequent compared with Wednesday.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Now, as we finish Thursday and go into Friday,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37this low will push in even further, hopefully pushing away

0:02:37 > 0:02:40the stormy weather from the south-east if it does occur.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44But it does mean a threat of showers towards the end of the week.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Very hit and miss, the winds will be light for some, so slow-moving.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50A bit more speed about them towards the south-west, which is good news,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53in one respect, because if any do come Glastonbury's way,

0:02:53 > 0:02:56they will push through rapidly. But there's no guarantee you'll get wet.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59But if you do, it's only going to add to the soggy ground we have.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01And that low pressure's still with us into Saturday.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Southern areas could be the focus for the heaviest of the rain,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06but as we go through the weekend,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08it looks like the jet stream will kick back into gear to the

0:03:08 > 0:03:11north of us, bringing low-pressure systems close to the north-west

0:03:11 > 0:03:14and helping the Azores high just to build close to southern parts.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17And in terms of weather? Well, always more likely

0:03:17 > 0:03:19to see rain at times across the likes

0:03:19 > 0:03:22of Scotland, Northern Ireland, not ruling out some showers

0:03:22 > 0:03:24further south, but tending to be a little bit drier here.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Of course, for tennis fans that's quite crucial,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30because early next week sees the start of Wimbledon. Bye for now.
