0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. I know it's a weather cliche, but last week it was Glastonbury,
0:00:06 > 0:00:08so we all know the kind of weather we expect for Glastonbury.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11This week, Wimbledon, so of course it's got to rain.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14But no, it didn't, certainly not on the first day anyway.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17It was beautiful, with blue sky and sunshine.
0:00:17 > 0:00:22But by day two, yes, the covers were out on the outer courts
0:00:22 > 0:00:23at around four o'clock,
0:00:23 > 0:00:26the skies became leaden and the rain arrived.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28It will start bright and sunny,
0:00:28 > 0:00:30but not for long, as more cloud and rain
0:00:30 > 0:00:32is expected during Wednesday.
0:00:32 > 0:00:33The heaviest will be across
0:00:33 > 0:00:36Wales, northern England and southern Scotland.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38It will be somewhat light and patchy
0:00:38 > 0:00:40from time to time through Wimbledon,
0:00:40 > 0:00:43with the rain on and off through the day.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45But temperatures struggling -
0:00:45 > 0:00:4614 to 18 degrees.
0:00:46 > 0:00:47As we move out of Wednesday,
0:00:47 > 0:00:49that rain clears away,
0:00:49 > 0:00:51but low pressure still in the driving seat,
0:00:51 > 0:00:54it's still going to be a breezy story
0:00:54 > 0:00:57and there'll still be outbreaks of rain to come.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00So again we start off on a dry note,
0:01:00 > 0:01:02even sunshine in central and eastern areas.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Clouding over from the west
0:01:04 > 0:01:07and somewhat light and patchy rain
0:01:07 > 0:01:08will push in to the west
0:01:08 > 0:01:10during Thursday afternoon.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12Eventually moving towards Wimbledon.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14But with a bit more sunshine,
0:01:14 > 0:01:15perhaps a degree or so warmer.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17So that showery rain
0:01:17 > 0:01:18has to drift its way eastwards
0:01:18 > 0:01:21through Thursday night into Friday.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24Friday - may not have escaped your attention -
0:01:24 > 0:01:26is 1 July. Where is summer?
0:01:26 > 0:01:30Cast your mind back to 12 months ago.
0:01:30 > 0:01:331 July 2015 was the hottest July day
0:01:33 > 0:01:36ever recorded at Heathrow Airport, with 37 degrees.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38This July, we'll be lucky
0:01:38 > 0:01:41if we see a daytime maximum of just 20 Celsius.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44Again, it will be pretty breezy as well.
0:01:44 > 0:01:46The best of the sunshine is likely to be
0:01:46 > 0:01:47in the south-east corner,
0:01:47 > 0:01:49the best of the warmth here.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51But the further north and west you go,
0:01:51 > 0:01:53we keep these showers going
0:01:53 > 0:01:55and it will be rather breezy,
0:01:55 > 0:01:57so feeling cool and disappointing for 1 July.
0:01:57 > 0:01:59A similar story into Saturday.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01Low pressure sitting to the north,
0:02:01 > 0:02:04plenty of showers piling into the north and west.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06Not too bad elsewhere. We'll see sunshine.
0:02:06 > 0:02:09Again, with the sunshine, hopefully we'll see
0:02:09 > 0:02:11some warmth - 18 to 20 degrees,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13perhaps mid-teens further north.
0:02:13 > 0:02:1512 to 15, if we're lucky,
0:02:15 > 0:02:17through Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19As we move out of Saturday towards Sunday,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22there's the potential for most significant rain
0:02:22 > 0:02:25across central and southern parts of England.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27We need to keep a close eye on that.
0:02:27 > 0:02:28That could dampen the spirits
0:02:28 > 0:02:30to the second half of the weekend here.
0:02:30 > 0:02:33Showers continue further north and west.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35In terms of the feel of things on Sunday,
0:02:35 > 0:02:38generally we're looking at around the mid-teens,
0:02:38 > 0:02:42but we might just see 20 in the south-east corner.
0:02:42 > 0:02:46As we move out of Sunday into next week, we want this Azores high.
0:02:46 > 0:02:51This is the Azores high. It looks likely to drift towards the UK.
0:02:51 > 0:02:54It's the Azores high that brings us our summer weather.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57That will help push the jet stream a bit further north and west.
0:02:57 > 0:03:01It's the jet stream that drives the low pressures across the UK.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04But the Azores high is not potentially
0:03:04 > 0:03:05going to stay with us very long
0:03:05 > 0:03:10and it's not going to bring really settled summer sunshine and warmth.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12It was drag in some warm air for a time,
0:03:12 > 0:03:16but always that cooler north-westerly direction
0:03:16 > 0:03:17across the bulk of the country.
0:03:17 > 0:03:21Here we keep it breezy and showery from time to time.
0:03:21 > 0:03:23Further south, it will be breezy,
0:03:23 > 0:03:24but quite humid for a time,
0:03:24 > 0:03:25with some sunshine.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27Unfortunately, with that humidity,
0:03:27 > 0:03:31we could potentially see some thundery downpours to come.
0:03:31 > 0:03:32Take care.
