0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. If you like your summer weather to be warm
0:00:05 > 0:00:08and sunny, you've probably been disappointed with June.
0:00:08 > 0:00:10Let's look at the statistics for the month.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12The provisional statistics, that is.
0:00:12 > 0:00:13It shows, as most of you can guess,
0:00:13 > 0:00:15it's been a duller than average month.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17This map, the grey colours,
0:00:17 > 0:00:19showing where we've seen less than
0:00:19 > 0:00:21the average amount of sunshine.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Parts of western, southern Scotland
0:00:23 > 0:00:24have seen about the average.
0:00:24 > 0:00:25And Shetland is in yellow.
0:00:25 > 0:00:28Here we've see quite a lot of sunshine during June,
0:00:28 > 0:00:30Shetland one of the driest parts
0:00:30 > 0:00:31of the UK through the month as well.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33This map shows rainfall distribution.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35The bluer colours where we've had
0:00:35 > 0:00:37more than the average,
0:00:37 > 0:00:39significantly more across eastern Scotland,
0:00:39 > 0:00:41East Anglia and south-east England.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43Why so dull and so wet?
0:00:43 > 0:00:45It's all to do with the jet stream,
0:00:45 > 0:00:47that fast-moving ribbon of air high up.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50It has been persistently quite far south,
0:00:50 > 0:00:52driving low-pressure systems across the UK.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55And it's not really shifting too far
0:00:55 > 0:00:56in the coming days.
0:00:56 > 0:00:57Many will see sunshine on Friday,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59but there'll be showers around.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Bands of heavy showers drifting south
0:01:01 > 0:01:03particularly across northern Britain.
0:01:03 > 0:01:04After a grey start
0:01:04 > 0:01:05across the south-east, East Anglia,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07it may cheer up a bit here.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08We could stay largely dry here
0:01:08 > 0:01:09with 19 or 20 the high.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12But most places seeing heavy, thundery showers
0:01:12 > 0:01:14and temperatures below average
0:01:14 > 0:01:15in the mid to high teens.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17Saturday could start largely dry.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20Again it's another day of sunshine and showers.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22Not many showers south of the Midlands,
0:01:22 > 0:01:23many places here should have
0:01:23 > 0:01:24a fine day on Saturday.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27Perhaps up to 20 Celsius, but many places,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29particularly with the showers and breeze,
0:01:29 > 0:01:30feeling on the cool side
0:01:30 > 0:01:32for the first part of July.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34Low-pressure systems dominating
0:01:34 > 0:01:35to the north of the UK
0:01:35 > 0:01:37and another set of weather fronts approaching.
0:01:37 > 0:01:38These ones not too angry,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41not bringing too much in the way of rain,
0:01:41 > 0:01:43but it will introduce more cloud
0:01:43 > 0:01:45across the South and West
0:01:45 > 0:01:46with outbreaks of rain tracking in
0:01:46 > 0:01:47across southern areas.
0:01:47 > 0:01:50Further north, not as many showers on Sunday,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52so many places will be dry and fine,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54but again temperatures still below average
0:01:54 > 0:01:56even where we see
0:01:56 > 0:01:58some lengthy spells of sunshine.
0:01:58 > 0:01:59Then, for Sunday into Monday,
0:01:59 > 0:02:01those weather fronts get
0:02:01 > 0:02:02their act together a bit more.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Low pressure continues to dominate.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06Some uncertainty about how far north
0:02:06 > 0:02:08this area of rain will be.
0:02:08 > 0:02:09But it looks as if
0:02:09 > 0:02:11there will be rain for some on Monday.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13To this south, we start to bring
0:02:13 > 0:02:15slightly warmer, humid air
0:02:15 > 0:02:18across the UK. So we could get into the low 20s.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20Signs of things settling down a bit
0:02:20 > 0:02:21as we go into Tuesday.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23Some showers to clear away from the north,
0:02:23 > 0:02:26but with a bit of warmth in the south,
0:02:26 > 0:02:27we could get to 21 or 22.
0:02:27 > 0:02:29This is the set-up into next week.
0:02:29 > 0:02:30Low pressure nearby.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32What we talked about yesterday,
0:02:32 > 0:02:34this ridge of high pressure,
0:02:34 > 0:02:35needs to move its way in.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38The Azores high, for a settled spell of weather,
0:02:38 > 0:02:40needs the bodily move across the UK.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43It does try and push up around the middle part of the week,
0:02:43 > 0:02:47so we could get some fine weather, Tuesday or Wednesday,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49but then it will shrink back south again,
0:02:49 > 0:02:52allowing low-pressure systems to again be close to the UK.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56It may again just try temporarily to push back towards the UK
0:02:56 > 0:03:00later next week. But these are only hints of summer.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03We really need that high pressure to shift fully across the UK
0:03:03 > 0:03:05for any settled spell of weather
0:03:05 > 0:03:07to allow temperatures to start to build.
0:03:07 > 0:03:12And that's only possible if the jet stream moves to the north of the UK.
0:03:12 > 0:03:13But it doesn't look like happening.
0:03:13 > 0:03:17The Jet stream still in a similar position for the first part of July.
0:03:17 > 0:03:19Keeping things pretty unsettled
0:03:19 > 0:03:20generally cool and showery.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22When that high moves up,
0:03:22 > 0:03:25there will be perhaps hints of summer,
0:03:25 > 0:03:27but that's about all we can say at the moment.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's all for now. Goodbye.
