0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello there.

0:00:03 > 0:00:06If you're feeling hard done by the summer so far,

0:00:06 > 0:00:07it's easy to understand

0:00:07 > 0:00:09when we look at the Met Office stats for the month of June.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11It was a particularly dull month as far as sunshine

0:00:11 > 0:00:14amounts are concerned, especially for England and Wales.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16The grey colours indicating where sunshine fell well

0:00:16 > 0:00:18short of where we normally expect this time of year.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20It was to eastern and southern areas where we saw

0:00:20 > 0:00:23some of the wettest conditions, the dark blue colours -

0:00:23 > 0:00:25parts of Aberdeenshire, and down towards East Anglia and the

0:00:25 > 0:00:28south-east, seeing over double their normal June rainfall.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30It was driest to the north and to the west.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33This week, though, we switch things around a little bit.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34The jet stream, compared to last week,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37has moved a bit further north, and so it's going to be further north

0:00:37 > 0:00:41and west where oncoming low-pressure systems will be centred.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42That was the case on Monday,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45one pushing across the northern half of the UK,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and it will be the case with this area of cloud

0:00:47 > 0:00:49and low pressure pushing in for Wednesday.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Followed by this one later on Thursday.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Now, at the moment, we've got a break between the weather systems,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Tuesday will be a drier day for many, a brighter day as well.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00There will be lots of showers across Scotland and some of those

0:01:00 > 0:01:02will transfer into north-east England later on.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05But quite a blustery start to the day, meaning that with those winds

0:01:05 > 0:01:08from the north-west it will feel a bit fresher out there

0:01:08 > 0:01:11compared with some of you experienced on Monday.

0:01:11 > 0:01:12But by comparison,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15a bit more sunshine across western Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17and parts of northern England - certainly welcome.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Now the rain that we do see,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21and the showers to take us into the first part of Tuesday night,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24will quickly depart. Going into Wednesday, most places will be dry.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Away from the towns and cities,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28though, it will be a rather cool start with temperatures

0:01:28 > 0:01:31down into single figures but it should be a bright start to the day.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34We start Wednesday with a little ridge of high pressure

0:01:34 > 0:01:35keeping things dry initially,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38but I mentioned low-pressure systems in the Atlantic,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40one will be slowly working its way into the north and the west.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Bringing rain through the morning into Northern Ireland

0:01:43 > 0:01:46and eventually into the afternoon - western parts of Scotland.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47One or two spots of western England

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and Wales could see some rain at times later on.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Most of you, though, will have a drier Wednesday

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and it will start to feel a little bit warmer again.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Warmer still for those in the south and east as we go into Thursday,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00that low-pressure system links into the next one,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02but starting to bring in the winds from the south

0:02:02 > 0:02:03and the west.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Boosting temperatures and boosting the mugginess across southern

0:02:07 > 0:02:09parts, where, to the south-east, it could stay dry all day.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Not a bad day in north-eastern Scotland,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14but in between lots of cloud, some patchy rain or drizzle.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16And through the day that rain or drizzle will get heavier

0:02:16 > 0:02:18and heavier from the west.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20That system, though, clears off into the near Continent,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23through Thursday night into Friday, fizzling as it goes.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Another brief ridge of high pressure builds in across the UK,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29the flow is still coming in from the south-west, generally speaking,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31so temperatures will hold up quite nicely.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33And when the sun comes out, it will feel another warm

0:02:33 > 0:02:36and muggy day, especially to the south and east.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38So varying amounts of sunshine, most places dry,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40but rain into the north-west later.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43And then to find out what happens for the weekend, we have to take

0:02:43 > 0:02:45ourselves over to the States and what happened on July the fourth.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Big storms across eastern areas, that forms an area of low pressure

0:02:49 > 0:02:51which will get picked up by the jet stream,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54developed into quite a nasty low and spun up to the north-west.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56I think we will avoid the worst stage of that low-pressure

0:02:56 > 0:02:59system but certainly for Saturday it will bring outbreaks of rain,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02certainly into northern and western areas,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04some pushing its way eastwards. Quite a blustery day too,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06the strongest of the winds in north-west Scotland,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08but elsewhere with the winds coming from the south -

0:03:08 > 0:03:11note the temperatures, probably the warmest day of the week.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13That low-pressure system works across into Sunday,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15next week the jet stream still dominates,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18so we're going to see that alternating pattern of some drier,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21sunnier, warmer moments with the cooler and wetter weather too.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Coolest and wettest always to the north-west of the UK,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26much like this week. Sunniest and warmest, at times,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28for the south and the east.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30We'll keep you updated.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35You're going to have to keep your head down, Michael. No!
