0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello. As we saw yesterday,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06the stats for June didn't look particularly great

0:00:06 > 0:00:08as far as summer-like weather is concerned,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11but why have things been a little bit short of what you'd want

0:00:11 > 0:00:13this time of year? Well, let's take us back to June.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Absence of a strong jet stream,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17low pressure got stuck to the south-east of the country,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20bringing in some warmth at times, but also acted as a breeding ground

0:00:20 > 0:00:23for the big storms and, of course, some of that flooding we saw.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25By the end of June and into the start of July,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28we have to turn our attention to the west coast of the United States.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31North Pacific - area of high pressure in charge here and that

0:00:31 > 0:00:34has sent the jet stream a little bit further north across North America.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36It's lacking ripples too

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and as it's pushed off the east coast of the United States,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40warm air to the south of it,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43cold air to the north has sped it up and forces this strong

0:00:43 > 0:00:47and fairly flat jet stream across the Atlantic to our shores,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49bringing low pressure system after low pressure system

0:00:49 > 0:00:51and, of course, with it,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52the rain and at times gusty winds.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54One such low pressure system

0:00:54 > 0:00:55on Wednesday hits the north-west of the UK,

0:00:55 > 0:00:58bringing some drizzle, nothing more than that,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59to parts of Northern Ireland

0:00:59 > 0:01:01and something damper to western Scotland to the end of the day.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04One or two showers in western England and Wales, but elsewhere,

0:01:04 > 0:01:07after a chilly start for the early risers, quite a pleasant day.

0:01:07 > 0:01:08Best of the sunshine in the morning

0:01:08 > 0:01:11turning hazy through the afternoon and feeling a bit milder,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14starting to drag in slightly more humid air on south-westerly winds.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Those winds with us through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18a wet night across Scotland

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and Northern Ireland to begin with,

0:01:20 > 0:01:23some of that damp weather into northern England and Wales later on,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25but compared with what we'll have seen on Tuesday night,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27temperatures much, much higher,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29some parts not falling below the teens.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31So into Thursday and the end of the week -

0:01:31 > 0:01:33we've got a run of south-westerly winds

0:01:33 > 0:01:36coming all the way up from the mid-Atlantic.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39Lots of cloud tangled in that and a straggling weather front

0:01:39 > 0:01:41for Thursday across this central portion of the UK.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Northern England, the Midlands,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Wales most likely to see predominantly cloudy conditions,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47some occasional rain or drizzle in western hills.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49North of that, some sunshine.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Maybe above 20 degrees in eastern Scotland,

0:01:51 > 0:01:5322 or 23 in the south-east corner,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55where again it stays dry with some hazy sunshine.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Wetter conditions through the night across the northern half of the UK.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Still some weather fronts to take us into Friday.

0:02:01 > 0:02:02Friday's sort of an in-between day.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03We may start with cloud

0:02:03 > 0:02:05and outbreaks of rain just about anywhere.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08A few heavy showers later, but there will be some drier

0:02:08 > 0:02:10and brighter weather later with some sunshine at times too.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Then into the weekend -

0:02:12 > 0:02:13let's return to the east coast,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15this time of the United States.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18The storms that were there on July 4th across the likes

0:02:18 > 0:02:23of Kentucky now into this mass of cloud off the eastern seaboard.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25It's a developing area of low pressure picked up by that

0:02:25 > 0:02:28flat jet stream and developed quite rapidly

0:02:28 > 0:02:29for the end of the week,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31so by Saturday, the start of the weekend,

0:02:31 > 0:02:32it's quite a nasty area of low pressure

0:02:32 > 0:02:34to the north-west of the UK.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37What that means is we're likely to see strong winds,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39parts of Ireland, north-western UK.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Gales in places, rain through the day,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43a scattering of showers across other western areas,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46but the winds coming in from the south-west to south means

0:02:46 > 0:02:48that across eastern areas, a bit of sunshine.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51We could actually see temperatures hit 26 degrees for some.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Fairly humid air tied up with this low pressure system.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56That, though, is swept off into the near continent as we go into Sunday.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Low pressure still in charge.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Expect showers just about anywhere,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02pushing through on what will be quite a blustery day.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06Still the winds coming in from a west or south-westerly direction,

0:03:06 > 0:03:07so it won't be an especially cold day,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10but feeling a little less humid than Saturday will have done.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Pleasant enough in the sunshine, out the breeze,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14but always cooler as those showers go through,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17and with that jet stream still in place into next week,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19just remember we're going to continue to see those

0:03:19 > 0:03:22ever-changing skies we've been used to over the past week or so.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Warm in the sunshine where you get it, but every so often,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27a little bit cooler when the showers roll in

0:03:27 > 0:03:28and the breeze picks up.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30More tomorrow, see you then.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33Beans, beans, beans. Up on the...

0:03:33 > 0:03:36Beans, beans, beans, beans, beans, beans, beans.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Does he keep saying "beans"? Wa-ay!

0:03:38 > 0:03:39THUD Oh, my goodness!

0:03:40 > 0:03:41Are you all right?

0:03:41 > 0:03:41..things don't turn out quite as you'd expected.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43Just when you think you've got it all sorted...

0:03:43 > 0:03:44I love you.

0:03:44 > 0:03:45It's all under control.
