0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's a long way off, but a bit of heat and humidity in the forecast
0:00:05 > 0:00:08as we look to next week, something we haven't seen much this summer,
0:00:08 > 0:00:10I know it doesn't suit everyone.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12Now, there's a lot to happen before that.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14It's a fairly complicated weather picture at the moment,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16with high pressure to the south,
0:00:16 > 0:00:17and weatherfronts to the north,
0:00:17 > 0:00:20and that's where most of the wet weather will be, through Friday.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23Particularly wet for western parts of Scotland,
0:00:23 > 0:00:25but some rain for a time for Northern Ireland,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27and the rain pushing into other parts of Scotland.
0:00:27 > 0:00:28Patchier stuff further south,
0:00:28 > 0:00:31and you'll notice many southern parts of England stay dry,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33albeit increasingly cloudy.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35But for players and spectators
0:00:35 > 0:00:36at the Open at Troon,
0:00:36 > 0:00:39brace yourselves for a completely different day
0:00:39 > 0:00:40compared to Thursday.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43Fairly relentless rain, and strong and gusty winds.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45Challenging conditions for the Open.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47Now, some wet weather certainly persisting
0:00:47 > 0:00:49for much of the day across Western Scotland.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52Some of that rain crossing over to the eastern side,
0:00:52 > 0:00:53the rain probably easing off for a time
0:00:53 > 0:00:56across Northern Ireland, before it returns later on.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58Just dribs and drabs, really,
0:00:58 > 0:00:59for much of northern England,
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Wales, the Midlands, sporadic outbreaks of rain
0:01:01 > 0:01:03but not a lot at all.
0:01:03 > 0:01:06As you can see, many southern counties will stay dry,
0:01:06 > 0:01:07albeit increasingly cloudy,
0:01:07 > 0:01:09at four o'clock in the afternoon.
0:01:09 > 0:01:10So, if you're heading to the Test Match,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12I'm pretty optimistic.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14It'll start off bright, it'll tend to cloud over,
0:01:14 > 0:01:16but bar the odd spot of rain,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18I think we'll see near enough a full day's play.
0:01:20 > 0:01:21Now, the weather systems will start
0:01:21 > 0:01:23to edge their way south-eastwards
0:01:23 > 0:01:24as we go through Friday night,
0:01:24 > 0:01:27and this trailing cold front
0:01:27 > 0:01:29will end up across parts of Wales
0:01:29 > 0:01:30and central England
0:01:30 > 0:01:31by the middle part of Saturday.
0:01:31 > 0:01:33Along that, some patchy rain.
0:01:33 > 0:01:34It's an important dividing line.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36In actual fact, ahead of that,
0:01:36 > 0:01:37staying dry, and in any brightness,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39it'll feel quite warm and muggy,
0:01:39 > 0:01:40up into the mid-20s.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Behind this cold front, not surprisingly,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45you'll see cooler air, fresher conditions,
0:01:45 > 0:01:46some sunshine, but some blustery showers
0:01:46 > 0:01:48across the west of Scotland,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and these'll continue through Sunday.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52This is where most of the weather action will be.
0:01:52 > 0:01:54Further south, lighter winds,
0:01:54 > 0:01:55and any rain will clear away.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57Some brightness again,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59some warmth to be had in the sunshine,
0:01:59 > 0:02:00approaching the mid-20s.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Now, into the early part of next week.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05I mentioned that we could see some heat and humidity.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08Temperatures certainly building across southern areas,
0:02:08 > 0:02:09where we continue to see some sunshine.
0:02:09 > 0:02:13Further north, fresher, with some showers around.
0:02:13 > 0:02:15Most of those across the north and west of Scotland.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17That'll be the story again on Tuesday,
0:02:17 > 0:02:18a lot of dry weather,
0:02:18 > 0:02:20and again brightest and probably warmest
0:02:20 > 0:02:21across southern areas,
0:02:21 > 0:02:24the heat and the humidity beginning to build up,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26and if I run a little sequence
0:02:26 > 0:02:27of the temperature graphic
0:02:27 > 0:02:29for the early part of next week,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31you can see the deepest yellows and oranges
0:02:31 > 0:02:33across the southern half of the UK,
0:02:33 > 0:02:35quite muggy, quite humid air.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37As I say, it doesn't suit everybody,
0:02:37 > 0:02:40but at this stage, with high pressure,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42that humidity will not, we think,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44translate into thundery showers.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47Most of the rain confined to the far north-west.
0:02:47 > 0:02:48So, for holiday-makers,
0:02:48 > 0:02:49I've got some good news.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51At least for a time
0:02:51 > 0:02:52through the early part of next week,
0:02:52 > 0:02:55there should be plenty of dry and bright and sunny weather,
0:02:55 > 0:02:58particularly across more southern and central parts of the UK.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01Unfortunately, you'll need some waterproofs as well,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03because that fine weather might not last all week,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05because later on in the week,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07we're going to start to see
0:03:07 > 0:03:08that high pressure leaking away,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10roughly from midweek onwards,
0:03:10 > 0:03:13with potentially lower pressure and thundery rain developing, we think,
0:03:13 > 0:03:16with time. The details of that, not nailed on,
0:03:16 > 0:03:19but to sum up the picture later on next week -
0:03:19 > 0:03:20humid start, yes,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23but that increasing risk of some thundery rain,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25before fresher conditions spread in from the west.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27That's it from me. We'll keep you posted,
0:03:27 > 0:03:29and Helen will be here again tomorrow.
0:03:31 > 0:03:34OK, guys, we're about to go live to the world.
