0:00:03 > 0:00:05Well, thanks for joining me.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08There's not been much change to our extended weather outlook since

0:00:08 > 0:00:11our weather forecast for the week ahead yesterday.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Essentially, the weekend's going to be relatively cool across

0:00:14 > 0:00:18many western areas of the country but briefly warming up across

0:00:18 > 0:00:20the south-east of the country, where temperatures could actually

0:00:20 > 0:00:25nudge up to 29 degrees Celsius in London on Saturday.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Now, we've had a fairly decent end to the working week.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30This is Friday's satellite picture.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Quite a bit of sunshine, but then clouds bubbled up,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36we had a few showers around across Merseyside, northern parts of

0:00:36 > 0:00:38England and also one or two scattered showers across

0:00:38 > 0:00:40parts of the south-east.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43After a dry night, many of us waking up to some sunshine,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46but the weather will go downhill across western areas during

0:00:46 > 0:00:48the morning and into the afternoon,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51so that means across Northern Ireland and Scotland around

0:00:51 > 0:00:54the middle of the afternoon it's looking pretty damp,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57temperatures here on the modest side, around 17 degrees Celsius.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00This is much fresher Atlantic air,

0:01:00 > 0:01:04a polar, maritime air mass, if you remember your geography.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07And also we've got bits and pieces of light rain here across

0:01:07 > 0:01:10western parts of Wales and down into the south-west of England.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11But for the south-east, actually,

0:01:11 > 0:01:15and much of the Midlands, East Anglia, it'll be very, very warm.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19Temperatures could actually peak at around 29 degrees Celsius in London.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22For Saturday evening, not much change,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24so western areas hang on to some of that cloud with

0:01:24 > 0:01:28a few spots of rain, and one or two showers in other places, as well.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29Here's Sunday's weather outlook.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Another weather front pushed by a very weak jet stream,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34which we'll have a look at in a second.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36This rain is going to nudge into Northern Ireland early in the

0:01:36 > 0:01:40morning and then eventually move into parts of Scotland,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43also Wales and down into the south-west, so quite a distinct

0:01:43 > 0:01:47difference between the weather here in the east and also the west.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50The west will remain fresh, temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53still around 26 for London and for Norwich.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56By far again the best of the weather will be across the south-east.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Now, early next week we are anticipating

0:01:58 > 0:02:02a shot of slightly cooler air from northern parts of the Atlantic,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04so that means many of these northern and western areas will be in

0:02:04 > 0:02:08the teens, whereas the south-east just about hanging on to

0:02:08 > 0:02:12temperatures into perhaps the mid 20s, at the very least the low 20s.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14So, a day of sunshine and showers, quite breezy.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17There's a low pressure centred on Monday just to the north of

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Scotland, all around Scotland, and here around, say, 16 to 18,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22which is actually not bad,

0:02:22 > 0:02:26and temperatures of around 23 again for London and Norwich.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27And then, come Tuesday,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30it looks as though this ridge of high pressure starts to sort of

0:02:30 > 0:02:33make inroads across more southern and central areas of the UK,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36whereas in the north-west we keep getting these little areas of

0:02:36 > 0:02:39low pressure nibbling on the north-west of the country.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43So, this is the kind of pattern that we're really anticipating for

0:02:43 > 0:02:46most of the week, so these weak weather systems being again

0:02:46 > 0:02:48pushed by this weak jet stream.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51I showed you this graphic yesterday. There's no reason to change it.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53It is a very weak jet stream

0:02:53 > 0:02:56that's, where the weather fronts are produced, pushing them

0:02:56 > 0:02:57in our direction,

0:02:57 > 0:03:01whereas more southern areas holding on to that more settled weather.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04And actually, this jet stream of course extends across the Atlantic,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06all the way into Canada.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09It almost sort of domes northwards across this part of the world,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12so it's way to the north. You can hardly see it here, it's so weak.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14To the south we've got some major heat,

0:03:14 > 0:03:19which is continuing to build across many areas of the United States.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22So, next week, I think, back here across the UK,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25it's going to be pretty much what we'd expect this time of the year,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28so neither particularly hot nor particularly cool with some

0:03:28 > 0:03:31sunshine and a bit of rain from time to time.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36We're brave, aren't we? Yes, I am.
