0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello. For quite a few of you,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06the week gone has been humid by day and by night.

0:00:06 > 0:00:07Southerly winds dominated,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10bringing all that warmth of the continent, lifting temperatures

0:00:10 > 0:00:11in mainland UK to

0:00:11 > 0:00:13around 34 degrees on Tuesday,

0:00:13 > 0:00:1535 on the Channel Islands.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16The week ahead though,

0:00:16 > 0:00:17get rid of those southerly winds,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18we bring air in off

0:00:18 > 0:00:20the Atlantic, from the West,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and temperatures accordingly will drop.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Many of you much closer to around 19 Celsius,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27around average for the time of year,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28if not a little bit lower.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Bringing about the change,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31this weather front,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33which swept through the last stages of Sunday.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35That puts us into those westerly winds,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37bringing a mixture of some brighter,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38sunny spells through Monday -

0:00:38 > 0:00:40best of which are towards eastern parts -

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and a few showers, most likely in the West.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43The showers though, well scattered

0:00:43 > 0:00:45on Monday, which means most

0:00:45 > 0:00:46will spend the bulk of the day dry,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48if not the entire day. More likely to see

0:00:48 > 0:00:50showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51And here, temperatures

0:00:51 > 0:00:53a little bit lower for the time of year,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54around 15 to 17 degrees.

0:00:54 > 0:00:55But the humid air we've seen

0:00:55 > 0:00:57across East Anglia and the south-east

0:00:57 > 0:00:59has certainly cleared. You might just catch

0:00:59 > 0:01:01one or two showers across eastern England

0:01:01 > 0:01:02to finish Monday, but through

0:01:02 > 0:01:03the night, most become dry.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Showers continue in northern Scotland,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08with a very blustery wind, and by night,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10temperatures dropping away a little bit.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13A fresher feel, but by no means cold,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15temperatures staying in double figures,

0:01:15 > 0:01:16if not into the teens.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18So this is the set-up for Tuesday,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21the Azores High just to the south-west of us,

0:01:21 > 0:01:22low pressure to the north of us,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24so we continue with that flow of westerly winds.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26If anything, a bit more cloud on Tuesday,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27particularly England and Wales,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29more likely to see wetter weather for a time.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31South-west England and South Wales.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Nothing hugely substantial, the odd shower elsewhere,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34some sunny spells -

0:01:34 > 0:01:37best of which down these eastern parts,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38where again, temperatures

0:01:38 > 0:01:39could lift into the low 20s.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41And don't forget, we are still in July,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43the warmth of that sunshine overhead

0:01:43 > 0:01:44certainly will make itself known.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Through Tuesday night into Wednesday

0:01:46 > 0:01:48we are likely to see a bit more cloud

0:01:48 > 0:01:50coming from this system working its way across,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52so generally, a few more showers

0:01:52 > 0:01:53across England and Wales.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Further north, a little bit brighter,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57always breezy though across

0:01:57 > 0:01:58the far north of Scotland.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00That area of low pressure

0:02:00 > 0:02:01never moving too far away.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Through Wednesday night into Thursday though,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05could see a more significant

0:02:05 > 0:02:06spell of rain.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07We're not talking huge amounts,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09but it will bring what

0:02:09 > 0:02:10looks like some wetter weather

0:02:10 > 0:02:11into Northern Ireland, Scotland

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and western parts of England and Wales.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16At this range, that could be a bit further north,

0:02:16 > 0:02:17could be a little bit further south.

0:02:17 > 0:02:18The further south and east

0:02:18 > 0:02:20you are you are more likely to stay

0:02:20 > 0:02:21largely dry, and temperatures

0:02:21 > 0:02:23very familiar throughout the week,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25the mid-teens to the low 20s. Into Friday night,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27that system just pushes its way

0:02:27 > 0:02:29slowly towards the North Sea.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32We will continue to see some showers from it,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34not huge amounts of rain admittedly,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35but things will gradually turn

0:02:35 > 0:02:36a bit brighter in the west.

0:02:36 > 0:02:37But the wind is going in

0:02:37 > 0:02:39a north-westerly direction later,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41introduces even cooler air to parts of Scotland

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and Northern Ireland. You'll have noticed,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46through the week I've been mentioning the word "showers",

0:02:46 > 0:02:47an indication that rainfall amounts

0:02:47 > 0:02:49will vary hugely. Some will stay dry,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50and that could be crucial, because,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52after a very wet start to summer,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55things have got much drier across the south and east.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Some, including on the Isle of Wight,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58we have barely seen a millimetre

0:02:58 > 0:02:59of rainfall so far this July.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01And I can't guarantee we will

0:03:01 > 0:03:03see much more than that,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05because as that low pressure system

0:03:05 > 0:03:06pushes off into the continent

0:03:06 > 0:03:08next weekend, we open the door

0:03:08 > 0:03:09to north-westerly winds,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11keeping things a little on the cool side,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13but it does mean what pushes down

0:03:13 > 0:03:15in that flow will tend to be showers.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Showers tend to be hit and miss,

0:03:17 > 0:03:18and the further south and east

0:03:18 > 0:03:20you are, you're more likely to be dry.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22It doesn mean though, north-westerly winds,

0:03:22 > 0:03:23quite cool for the time of year

0:03:23 > 0:03:25across northern and western areas,

0:03:25 > 0:03:26and it's likely to be

0:03:26 > 0:03:27a bit breezier next weekend

0:03:27 > 0:03:29before things turn a touch warmer

0:03:29 > 0:03:31for the start of the following week.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36A pioneer. A great American icon.

0:03:36 > 0:03:41She scandalised New York with her abstract flower paintings and found

0:03:41 > 0:03:45the solitude and inspiration she needed in the deserts of New Mexico.
