0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, there.

0:00:03 > 0:00:06Well, reaching the end of July. All the schools have broken up,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08the holiday season is getting into full swing

0:00:08 > 0:00:10and there's plenty of rain in the forecast.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11Business as usual.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Last week's heat is a fading memory.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15It's been shoved out of the way

0:00:15 > 0:00:18by quite an active westerly jet stream.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21And this jet stream delivering these areas of blue.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24The blobs of blue indicating some spells of wet weather

0:00:24 > 0:00:26for just about all of us, actually, over the next few days.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27So, to sum up,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30we won't see the heat of last week through the next few days.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33We'll see some sunshine, we'll see some rain as well.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34Quite a mixture.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Now, not much rain around first thing on Tuesday.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38There'll be plenty of dry and bright weather -

0:00:38 > 0:00:40the best of that across the more eastern areas.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Already some showers further west

0:00:42 > 0:00:45and, for some of us, these will become more widespread

0:00:45 > 0:00:47as we go into the second half of the day.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49But, for others, the sunshine will hold on.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51For example across parts of eastern Scotland,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52maybe north-east England.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54There'll be some showers further west.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Not too bad across Scotland and Northern Ireland, though,

0:00:57 > 0:00:58for the bulk of the day.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00I mentioned some sunshine for north-east England

0:01:00 > 0:01:01but elsewhere, a fair bit of cloud.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Increasing amounts of cloud, actually, through the afternoon.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Still some brightness holding on

0:01:06 > 0:01:07across East Anglia and the south east.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Up into the low 20s, here.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11A disappointing end to the day further west,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13across Wales and south-east England,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15with some showers around.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16Now, gardeners, take note.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Some places haven't seen much rain for quite a few weeks

0:01:19 > 0:01:21but overnight we'll see a bit of a splash

0:01:21 > 0:01:24moving from Northern Ireland through much of England and Wales.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26The good news is that much of that will fall overnight,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28though it will be a damp start to the day

0:01:28 > 0:01:30across these more southern and eastern areas

0:01:30 > 0:01:32and the odd sharp shower left behind through the day.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Best of the brightness probably further north,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37though there will be some showers across the far north of Scotland.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Now, next on the conveyor belt, this area of low pressure.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41And that looks like zipping

0:01:41 > 0:01:43right the way across the heart of the country.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45That spells one thing.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47It means some more wet weather, actually, on Thursday,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50and some of that rain could be quite heavy.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Mind you, the far north of Scotland will probably avoid the rain,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56hold on to some brightness. It will be cool, just 14 or 15.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59It might turn a bit muggy for a time across some southern areas.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Generally, underneath the rain clouds, it will be cool.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Now, the rain, or most of it, will start to clear away on Friday.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06We'll be left with some showers

0:02:06 > 0:02:09and you'll notice the wind beginning to come down from the north west.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11That's never a particularly warm direction.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13It will knock the temperatures on their head, actually,

0:02:13 > 0:02:14as we approach the weekend.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16The low pressure moves out of the way

0:02:16 > 0:02:19but we keep those north-westerly winds going.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20Certainly, overnight,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22temperatures will get well down into single figures.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25But, by day, if you can get tucked out of the breeze

0:02:25 > 0:02:27and in the sunshine, it shouldn't feel too bad at all,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30particularly across the more southern and eastern areas.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31Very nice indeed.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Further north and west, though,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34you'll feel the effects of that breeze

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and still some showers left behind.

0:02:36 > 0:02:37Now, through this weekend,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39as that low pressure eases out of the way

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and the high pressure starts to push in from the south west,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46we will start to lose those cool, north-westerly winds.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48The weather settling down, but for how long?

0:02:48 > 0:02:52Well, most computer models indicate that it won't be for all that long

0:02:52 > 0:02:54as low pressure approaches from the north west.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57We'll see winds coming in off the Atlantic

0:02:57 > 0:02:59with most of the rain closest to that low pressure

0:02:59 > 0:03:00across the north west.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04However, it won't take much of a shift in the wind direction

0:03:04 > 0:03:07to usher in some much, much warmer air from the south.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08If you think back to last week,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11a lot can change with a subtle shift in wind direction.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12So watch this space.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15It's a small chance but a couple of computer models

0:03:15 > 0:03:17are starting to pick up on that idea.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20At the moment, it looks as if it will be wettest in the north west

0:03:20 > 0:03:22and driest in the south east next week.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25But that risk, or that chance, shall we say, of a shot of heat.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27We'll be keeping a very close eye on that one

0:03:27 > 0:03:29over the next few days. I'll update you again tomorrow.

0:03:32 > 0:03:37The War On Waste is back and your help has made a big difference.

0:03:37 > 0:03:3950,000 people are getting fed

0:03:39 > 0:03:41who weren't getting fed before. Every week.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43It's a victory for common sense! WOMAN LAUGHS

0:03:43 > 0:03:46But now, Hugh's uncovered a recycling scandal...
