0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, in broad terms, if you take the UK as a whole,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07the summer so far hasn't been too far off the average -

0:00:07 > 0:00:08but that disguises a lot of variety

0:00:08 > 0:00:10from place to place and from day to day.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11We'll keep the variety going,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13actually over the next few days.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15It was deckchair weather down on the Sussex coast

0:00:15 > 0:00:17on Tuesday afternoon - thanks to Robbie

0:00:17 > 0:00:18for sending in this picture -

0:00:18 > 0:00:20however, over the next couple of days,

0:00:20 > 0:00:21this might be a more typical scene.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23There's plenty of rain in the forecast.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26In fact, it'll be a pretty damp and dismal start to the day

0:00:26 > 0:00:28on Wednesday across the southern half of the UK.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Some drizzly outbreaks of rain,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32a lot of fog up over the high ground, too.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34The best of the brightness further north,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36and I think we'll keep with most of the sunshine

0:00:36 > 0:00:38across the northern half of the UK throughout the day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41There will be blustery showers across the north-west Highlands,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43but further south and east across Scotland,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45and for Northern Ireland, and for much of northern England

0:00:45 > 0:00:47it's going to be a reasonable day,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49with temperatures getting up into the low 20s.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51After that, damp start further south.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Things will perk up to some extent,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56but watch out for one or two quite heavy, thundery showers developing -

0:00:56 > 0:00:58across some central and eastern parts of England

0:00:58 > 0:01:00you could see the odd thunderstorm.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Some brightness, hopefully, further west,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03across Wales and the south-west.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Now, no sooner do we lose one weather system

0:01:06 > 0:01:08then we gain another one coming in off the Atlantic.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10No two systems are exactly the same,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13but this one's going to do a similar sort of thing - it's going to

0:01:13 > 0:01:15send rain, initially, across Northern Ireland,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17and then through much of the UK.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19The northern extent of that rain still somewhat uncertain,

0:01:19 > 0:01:23but certainly for southern Scotland southwards through England and Wales

0:01:23 > 0:01:24there will be some wet weather.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Quite muggy across the south -

0:01:26 > 0:01:29it could brighten up here, fresher conditions further north.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33Now, that low pressure system sails off into the North Sea,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36and then we're into a round of north-westerly winds

0:01:36 > 0:01:38as we end the week.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Cool winds, so, don't expect a heat wave in the short term,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44and those breezes will carry one or two sharp showers around.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Difficult to get the detail of where those showers will be,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48bit there'll be some sunshine in between.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50A cool feel - high teens, low 20s.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53If you can get out of the breeze, it shouldn't feel too bad,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56and so that's the way we end the week, those north-westerly breezes

0:01:56 > 0:01:59keeping the really warm air out over the near continent.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02A cool feed, mostly affecting the more north-western parts of the UK.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04You'll notice that breeze.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06There'll be some sunshine - if you can avoid the showers,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08it shouldn't be too bad,

0:02:08 > 0:02:09with the best of the temperatures

0:02:09 > 0:02:11across the more southern and eastern areas.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13So, here's Saturday's picture -

0:02:13 > 0:02:16again, don't take the position of the blobs of blue too literally -

0:02:16 > 0:02:18there will be showers scattered around,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but there'll be some lengthy dry spells in between.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Temperatures struggling -

0:02:22 > 0:02:24and watch out for some fairly cool nights, as well.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Down to single figures, I think, through this weekend,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28where the skies remain clear.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Day - it's a similar picture, really.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Still that north-westerly breeze,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35temperatures quite subdued, and there'll be a few showers

0:02:35 > 0:02:37scattered around, but plenty of dry and bright weather, as well.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40So, if you're heading to the beach this weekend,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41you need to get away from that breeze,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and it's the more southern and eastern resorts

0:02:43 > 0:02:45best favoured with some shelter from that

0:02:45 > 0:02:48breeze, and it should feel quite pleasantly warm in the sunshine.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Now, through next week, if you were watching yesterday,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53I mentioned the high pressure settling things down briefly

0:02:53 > 0:02:55before low pressure arrives to the north-west,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57and areas closest to that low pressure

0:02:57 > 0:02:59will catch most of the wind and the rain -

0:02:59 > 0:03:01drier to the south and east.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04I also mentioned the small chance

0:03:04 > 0:03:06of some really warm air wafting up from the south.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08I've reduced that to a very small chance, now,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10but I haven't discarded it entirely -

0:03:10 > 0:03:13there's still a very small chance that that could happen,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14and the computer models

0:03:14 > 0:03:16will continue to firm up on that possibility

0:03:16 > 0:03:17over the next few days,

0:03:17 > 0:03:18but certainly it does look as if

0:03:18 > 0:03:20we will continue to see the wettest weather

0:03:20 > 0:03:22across the north-west with some blustery winds,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24dry conditions across the south-east,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26so, yes, we'll continue to keep an eye open

0:03:26 > 0:03:29for the possibility of some heat coming up from the south.
