0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. As we get into August

0:00:04 > 0:00:06it looks like the weather might become more energised -

0:00:06 > 0:00:08stay tuned to the end of the broadcast

0:00:08 > 0:00:09to see exactly what I mean by that.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12At the moment, though, things are quite placid, nothing too extreme -

0:00:12 > 0:00:14we do have a weather system pushing in off the Atlantic,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16but there's not much energy wrapped up in that.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18It does mean, though, a spell of rain -

0:00:18 > 0:00:19welcome rain, in actual fact,

0:00:19 > 0:00:22for those gardens that have been parched over recent weeks -

0:00:22 > 0:00:24initially across the more western parts of the UK,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27and that rain will be spreading across much of the country

0:00:27 > 0:00:28through the day,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31the northern half of Scotland probably avoiding most of the rain -

0:00:31 > 0:00:32some brightness here, and the odd shower -

0:00:32 > 0:00:34but elsewhere we will see some dampness

0:00:34 > 0:00:36at some stage through the day.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38I mentioned the north of Scotland, yes, sunshine holding on here,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40though some showers across the far north.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Roughly south of the central belt, though,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44it stays grey and pretty damp into the afternoon -

0:00:44 > 0:00:46this is four o'clock,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48and pretty dreary for Northern Ireland, as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49Disappointingly cool.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Now, further south through northern England

0:00:51 > 0:00:53and into Wales and the Midlands,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55I think things will start to brighten up

0:00:55 > 0:00:56through the afternoon.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58So, too, for the south-west, and if that does happen,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00we could see one or two showers developing

0:01:00 > 0:01:02as that rain clears away from the more eastern counties.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Quite a muggy one again in the south.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Now, as we go through the night and on into Friday,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09this sort of residual band of showery rain

0:01:09 > 0:01:11will start to head its way southwards,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13so a fair bit of cloud and some showers,

0:01:13 > 0:01:14at least for a time,

0:01:14 > 0:01:17across more central and southern parts of the UK on Friday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Brightening up behind, here, we'll see plenty of sunshine -

0:01:20 > 0:01:22a fresh feeling day across northern areas.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25One more day of humidity across the south.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27But, as this front clears away,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29we'll push that humidity out of the way, as well.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32We'll be into a run of north-westerly winds

0:01:32 > 0:01:34as we get in to the weekend,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36and that keeps that really warm air at bay.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39Cooler conditions feeding in on that north-westerly.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40Not desperately cold,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43but a fresh feeling weekend for all of us.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44So, let's sum things up -

0:01:44 > 0:01:46we'll all see some sunshine, that's good news.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48A few showers for the gardens,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50and you will notice the nights, actually,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53will be turning quite chilly - chillier than in recent nights.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55So, for Saturday, a scattering of showers around,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57but as you can see, a lot of dry weather -

0:01:57 > 0:01:59in fact, some of the best of the sunshine

0:01:59 > 0:02:00could be around the coastal fringe -

0:02:00 > 0:02:02good news if you're heading to the beach.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Temperatures not spectacular - high teens, low 20s.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06After a chilly night,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Sunday gives us more of the same, really.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10The showers won't be in exactly the same place -

0:02:10 > 0:02:11they'll be dotted around, and, again,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14there'll be plenty of dry and bright weather in between.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Once more, high teens, low 20s.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Now, into next week, into August,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21we start to look to the Atlantic for our weather.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22There are systems lining up to come in,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24but I think, on Monday itself,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26a little ridge of high pressure will persist.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Most of the showers will have faded away by then,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and blustery wind easing away from the far north-east.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33So, a pleasant day for most of us.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Again, not spectacularly warm, but in the sunshine,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38it should feel very nice indeed.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Now, then, let's go stateside,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41because here we've got

0:02:41 > 0:02:42a bit of a heat wave at the moment -

0:02:42 > 0:02:45temperatures getting into the hundreds of Fahrenheit

0:02:45 > 0:02:47in recent days, and that hot weather

0:02:47 > 0:02:49is going to persist into next week, as well.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51The heat isn't going to come directly towards us,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53but it will be a factor in our weather,

0:02:53 > 0:02:54because as it pushes into the Atlantic

0:02:54 > 0:02:57it's going to supercharge the jet stream, I think.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59A tight gradient between cold to the north and warmth to the south,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01and it's going to speed up the jet

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and lead to some quite rapidly developing areas of low pressure

0:03:04 > 0:03:05on that jet stream,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and some of those could affect the far north-west of Scotland

0:03:08 > 0:03:09with some very strong winds.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Certainly across these more north-western part of the UK,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15closest to low pressure, I'm expecting the wettest weather

0:03:15 > 0:03:17as we go through the early part of August.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Furthest away from that, we have a lesser risk of gales,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24some drier weather and some warmer weather across the south-east.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25As I mentioned at the start,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27a fairly energetic look to the weather charts

0:03:27 > 0:03:28for the early part of August.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Sarah will update you tomorrow.
