0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. It's been a relatively benign second half of July.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07We haven't seen any particularly wet or windy spells of weather,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10but things do look rather more active and unsettled

0:00:10 > 0:00:11as we head through

0:00:11 > 0:00:12into the first part of August.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Back to the here and now,

0:00:13 > 0:00:14we've got a weather front

0:00:14 > 0:00:16which is slipping its way slowly

0:00:16 > 0:00:17south across the country

0:00:17 > 0:00:19through the day on Friday,

0:00:19 > 0:00:20so it will really be across the southern half

0:00:20 > 0:00:21of England and Wales

0:00:21 > 0:00:23that we'll see that weather front

0:00:23 > 0:00:24bringing a fair amount of cloud

0:00:24 > 0:00:26and some outbreaks of patchy rain.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28As we head through the afternoon,

0:00:28 > 0:00:29that cloud thins and breaks,

0:00:29 > 0:00:30allowing some sunshine,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31whereas further north

0:00:31 > 0:00:32that's where we'll see

0:00:32 > 0:00:34the lion's share of the sunshine,

0:00:34 > 0:00:35with fresher but clearer conditions

0:00:35 > 0:00:37piling in from the north-west.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38So during Friday afternoon,

0:00:38 > 0:00:39a few showers towards

0:00:39 > 0:00:40the north-west of Scotland.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42One of two for Northern Ireland,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44but plenty of dry and settled weather.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45Temperatures across the top half

0:00:45 > 0:00:47of the country in the high teens,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48perhaps 20 degrees or so.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Further south, it is little bit warmer,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52but we've got the cloud

0:00:52 > 0:00:54and the outbreaks of drizzly rain

0:00:54 > 0:00:56at times across southern parts of Wales,

0:00:56 > 0:00:57southern England too,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59but there will be some brightness

0:00:59 > 0:01:01and temperatures 22 or 23 degrees.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03So still relatively mild here,

0:01:03 > 0:01:04but what we will see

0:01:04 > 0:01:06is cooler, fresher conditions piling in

0:01:06 > 0:01:07from the north-west

0:01:07 > 0:01:08spreading their way across

0:01:08 > 0:01:10all of the country as we head through

0:01:10 > 0:01:11into the early hours of Saturday.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13So that front in the south dying away.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14We've got clearer conditions

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and certainly a little bit more comfortable

0:01:16 > 0:01:18for sleeping after the relative humidity

0:01:18 > 0:01:20that we've seen recently in the south.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22So through the day on Saturday,

0:01:22 > 0:01:23we've got a north-westerly flow

0:01:23 > 0:01:25of air coming in, bringing some showers

0:01:25 > 0:01:26to western Scotland,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27perhaps Northern Ireland,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29into North Wales and the north-west of England.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31One or two cropping up further south too

0:01:31 > 0:01:32and in the sunshine we could

0:01:32 > 0:01:34still see 24 degrees or so.

0:01:34 > 0:01:35Towards the north, though,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37we're looking at the high teens.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38So we're going to continue to see

0:01:38 > 0:01:39that slight cooling trend

0:01:39 > 0:01:41down to the fact that we've got

0:01:41 > 0:01:42low pressure sitting out

0:01:42 > 0:01:43to the north-east of the UK,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45high pressure towards the south-west.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49So the warm air that has been in place gradually gets pushed away

0:01:49 > 0:01:51towards the near continent and we'll start the cooler conditions

0:01:51 > 0:01:53filtering in from the north-west

0:01:53 > 0:01:55through the course of the weekend.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57So for Sunday, a similar day to Saturday.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Things are looking largely dry

0:01:59 > 0:02:00with some sunshine.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Temperatures down a touch on recent days,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05around 16 to perhaps 22 degrees,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06just a few scattered showers

0:02:06 > 0:02:08and spot the difference for Monday.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Another largely dry day with some sunshine,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12a few showers cropping up.

0:02:12 > 0:02:13Many of us avoiding them,

0:02:13 > 0:02:14but those temperatures

0:02:14 > 0:02:16certainly down on recent days

0:02:16 > 0:02:18and we will have some pretty chilly nights.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20So, as we head through the day on Tuesday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:21we've got some weather fronts

0:02:21 > 0:02:23starting to develop here

0:02:23 > 0:02:24out in the Atlantic,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but before they get to our shores,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28it's still an area of high pressure in charge.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29So, for the most part,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Tuesday looks like another largely dry day

0:02:31 > 0:02:32with some sunshine,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34but from the west the cloud will increase

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and that could bring some potentially heavy rain

0:02:36 > 0:02:38to western and south-western parts

0:02:38 > 0:02:39of the country to end the day.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42So as we look into the middle of the week, then,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44that big area of low pressure that we saw in the Atlantic looks

0:02:44 > 0:02:47likely to move in from the west, giving some spells

0:02:47 > 0:02:50of potentially heavy rain across around about Wednesday.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53There could be warnings issued from the Met Office for that rain

0:02:53 > 0:02:55at times fairly heavy.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58It looks like it will move off towards the east

0:02:58 > 0:03:00and what we're going to see from midweek onwards

0:03:00 > 0:03:02is a real oscillation in the jet stream.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04So the jet stream becomes more active,

0:03:04 > 0:03:05it will move in from the Atlantic,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07it will bring periods of warmer and dry weather,

0:03:07 > 0:03:12but also, that jet stream will drive low pressure mainly out towards

0:03:12 > 0:03:14the north and the north-west of the UK.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16So as we head through the early part of August,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18things will turn more unsettled

0:03:18 > 0:03:20with wind and rain at times

0:03:20 > 0:03:22mainly north-west, drier conditions

0:03:22 > 0:03:24towards the south-east and after

0:03:24 > 0:03:25the recent warmth and humidity,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27temperatures look around average.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28I'll have more tomorrow. Bye-bye.
