0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello - this isn't the warmest late July summer weather
0:00:05 > 0:00:09we've ever had but actually, on this date last year,
0:00:09 > 0:00:10it was even colder.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12In fact, this night last year,
0:00:12 > 0:00:14some of us were about to get
0:00:14 > 0:00:16a record cold July night -
0:00:16 > 0:00:18the temperatures even across parts
0:00:18 > 0:00:19of southern England falling into
0:00:19 > 0:00:21low single figures.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Now, again, it isn't that cold -
0:00:23 > 0:00:24however, we still have
0:00:24 > 0:00:26a coolish west-north-westerly flow
0:00:26 > 0:00:28across the UK, and under predominantly
0:00:28 > 0:00:30clear skies, as Sunday begins.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32Some will be into below single figures,
0:00:32 > 0:00:34I think, in sheltered Scottish glens,
0:00:34 > 0:00:35but mostly rural temperatures
0:00:35 > 0:00:37of 5 to 10 Celsius.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Early showers south-east England
0:00:39 > 0:00:40become isolated for the afternoon.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Early showers in northern Scotland
0:00:42 > 0:00:44become more widespread across Scotland,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46Northern Ireland and northern England for the afternoon.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Some heavy, maybe with thunder.
0:00:48 > 0:00:49The rest of England and for Wales,
0:00:49 > 0:00:51many of us will avoid the showers
0:00:51 > 0:00:53and stay dry, but you may catch one.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55High teens, low 20s for the temperature.
0:00:55 > 0:00:56A breezy picture
0:00:56 > 0:00:58across the northern half of the UK.
0:00:58 > 0:01:00Now, again through Sunday evening and night,
0:01:00 > 0:01:02many of the showers will fade away.
0:01:02 > 0:01:03I'm hiding something, though,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05approaching from the Atlantic,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07and that's an area of low pressure.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08Again, as we start Monday,
0:01:08 > 0:01:10rural temperatures will be lower than this,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12particularly for northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14Further south, the cloud coming in
0:01:14 > 0:01:16initially from this area of low pressure.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18Breeze picking up around it as well
0:01:18 > 0:01:20and this will slide in from west to east,
0:01:20 > 0:01:23gradually, during Monday and really focusing,
0:01:23 > 0:01:25not showers, but a spell of persistent rain
0:01:25 > 0:01:26into England and Wales.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28Could take some time to reach eastern England.
0:01:28 > 0:01:29It may not get there,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32to parts of northern England, Northern Ireland,
0:01:32 > 0:01:33or indeed Scotland.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35So maybe just a few showers left here.
0:01:35 > 0:01:36Increasing humidity with this system
0:01:36 > 0:01:38coming in from the Atlantic
0:01:38 > 0:01:40and temperatures reaching into the high teens.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Go from Monday into Tuesday,
0:01:42 > 0:01:43that spell of rain scoots through,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45across, again, parts of England and Wales.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48Low pressure still close by on Tuesday
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and another band of rain set to push
0:01:50 > 0:01:51its way northwards.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53This one looks like it'll fragment
0:01:53 > 0:01:55on its journey north-east, during Tuesday,
0:01:55 > 0:01:57so turning a bit more showery -
0:01:57 > 0:01:58plenty of cloud, mind you.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01Maybe some early sunny spells into Scotland.
0:02:01 > 0:02:02Temperatures up a little bit,
0:02:02 > 0:02:04cos there's more humidity, more warmth,
0:02:04 > 0:02:06coming in with these weather systems.
0:02:06 > 0:02:08Then as we go from Tuesday into Wednesday,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10well, one moves away, but we're very close
0:02:10 > 0:02:12to low pressure, however you look at it.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14Could still see a band of wet weather
0:02:14 > 0:02:16affecting parts of Scotland on Wednesday,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18and there could be a front close
0:02:18 > 0:02:20to southern England with outbreaks of rain.
0:02:20 > 0:02:22We have to keep a close eye on that as well.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24Looking like a breezy picture,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26particularly across southern areas.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28Low pressure beginning to edge away on Thursday,
0:02:28 > 0:02:32it's turning a bit cooler and fresher once again,
0:02:32 > 0:02:33and we'll see a mixture
0:02:33 > 0:02:34of sunshine and showers.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36If you want summer heat,
0:02:36 > 0:02:37where should we be looking?
0:02:37 > 0:02:39Well, it's still there, of course,
0:02:39 > 0:02:41across the Mediterranean,
0:02:41 > 0:02:43where we get our heat from -
0:02:43 > 0:02:44sometimes we tap into that,
0:02:44 > 0:02:46or draw something up
0:02:46 > 0:02:48from the continent, from the south-east.
0:02:48 > 0:02:50Either way, that's where we'd expect
0:02:50 > 0:02:52some summer warmth to be arriving.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54Clearly, though, that's not happening
0:02:54 > 0:02:56in the week ahead, because our weather
0:02:56 > 0:02:58is coming from the water, the Atlantic,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00we're seeing these weather systems
0:03:00 > 0:03:01coming in and actually,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03we can project this and go even further, now -
0:03:03 > 0:03:05by the end of the week,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07there may be a little bit of a gap that may last into
0:03:07 > 0:03:09the start of next weekend but you can see, again,
0:03:09 > 0:03:11that track of systems on the jet stream,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13across the Atlantic,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15keeping it changeable, we think,
0:03:15 > 0:03:16up to mid-August at least.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18So the Atlantic influence,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20the jet stream pushing those weather systems through.
0:03:20 > 0:03:21Not wet all the time -
0:03:21 > 0:03:23there will be drier, sunnier moments.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26It may get briefly warmer, then cool down again,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28giving us just average temperatures.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30Nothing special, no summer warmth on the horizon.
