0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. If you're a gardener or grower I suspect it's been
0:00:05 > 0:00:08a frustrating summer so far, because for some it's either been
0:00:08 > 0:00:10very wet then very dry, or vice versa.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13Met Office statistics for July up to and including Thursday
0:00:13 > 0:00:15suggest that at St Catherine's Point on the Isle of Wight
0:00:15 > 0:00:17it's been the driest July on record -
0:00:17 > 0:00:19just over 1mm of rain.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22But in contrast, at Stornoway in north-west Scotland,
0:00:22 > 0:00:25the third-wettest July on record.
0:00:25 > 0:00:28This is the rainfall distribution across the UK in July.
0:00:28 > 0:00:29Where you're in the brown you've been drier,
0:00:29 > 0:00:32the blue wetter, the white close to average.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35This is almost a complete reversal of fortunes compared with June,
0:00:35 > 0:00:37where the south and south-east was wetter
0:00:37 > 0:00:39and the north-west drier.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42So technically overall summer so far may just seem like average rainfall,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44but if you're growing something,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46from one extreme to the other, that is quite difficult.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Is there any rain on the way to
0:00:48 > 0:00:51those drier parts of southern England in July, as August begins?
0:00:51 > 0:00:55You don't have to wait very long. Low pressure is spreading rain
0:00:55 > 0:00:57into parts of England and Wales on Monday,
0:00:57 > 0:00:59the Isle of Wight is about to get some rain.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02So here it comes towards Wales, south-west England,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04eventually extending later in the day
0:01:04 > 0:01:07further east into parts of the Midlands and south-east England.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Northern England holding on to sunny spells,
0:01:09 > 0:01:12much of Scotland, Stornoway dry with sunny spells bar the odd shower,
0:01:12 > 0:01:15increasing cloud, mainly dry in Northern Ireland.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18As we go through Monday evening and night, that rain reaches across
0:01:18 > 0:01:21to eastern England, still avoiding the north of Northern England
0:01:21 > 0:01:23and Northern Ireland. Scotland on Monday night having clear spells.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25The chilliest weather here,
0:01:25 > 0:01:28some of those in the countryside getting down to single figures.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30But it's a warmer night across southern parts
0:01:30 > 0:01:31with the cloud and outbreaks of rain.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34Now, for Tuesday it's a complex pressure pattern and frontal set-up,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37but this weather front is the main player,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39extending northwards Tuesday into Wednesday,
0:01:39 > 0:01:41taking some outbreaks of rain.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44So on Tuesday, that will be pushing through parts of England and Wales
0:01:44 > 0:01:48into Northern Ireland, but still Scotland mainly dry on Tuesday,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50having the sunniest of the weather.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53Now, with this weather front coming into southern parts
0:01:53 > 0:01:55we start to introduce some more humid, warmer air,
0:01:55 > 0:01:57so temperatures creep up a few degrees.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Fresh in Scotland, but then again, you've got some sunshine.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Tuesday into Wednesday, the weather front is pushing further north,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06so that's going to take some outbreaks of rain at this stage
0:02:06 > 0:02:10into Scotland, some rain on the way into Stornoway.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12Low pressure close by Northern Ireland.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14The threat of occasional rain in Northern England.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16To the south of that, a few showers, a bit warmer still,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18but watch out - the far south-east of England
0:02:18 > 0:02:20there is a trailing weather front close by,
0:02:20 > 0:02:23may threaten some heavier outbreaks of rain on Wednesday.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25We'll keep you updated on that.
0:02:25 > 0:02:26Then Thursday to Friday,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29low pressure crossing the northern half of the UK,
0:02:29 > 0:02:32taking at least showers, so Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:02:32 > 0:02:36Northern England mostly on Thursday, fewer showers to the south,
0:02:36 > 0:02:39and those temperatures just starting to come down a couple of degrees,
0:02:39 > 0:02:42more of a north-westerly flow starting to develop across the UK,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44a process complete on Friday
0:02:44 > 0:02:47with sunshine and scattered showers across the board.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Now, we've just a weekend, but this forecast looks further ahead
0:02:50 > 0:02:52and is already looking ahead to the weekend coming.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54May not want to, though, when you see this.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56Another area of low pressure coming in,
0:02:56 > 0:03:00and this looks like it's going to push some wetter and windier weather
0:03:00 > 0:03:03across the UK on an active jet stream staying with us.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06And the Atlantic influence with this jet stream
0:03:06 > 0:03:08is the most favoured solution
0:03:08 > 0:03:10as we look at our weather going into next week,
0:03:10 > 0:03:12and that will maintain changeable weather -
0:03:12 > 0:03:15occasional wet, occasional dry spells coming through,
0:03:15 > 0:03:17and temperatures up and down but overall close to average.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20There's a lesser solution - we may see something a bit more settled
0:03:20 > 0:03:23across southern parts of the UK, so why not make a regular date
0:03:23 > 0:03:26with this forecast to see how that story unfolds,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29and the rest of August too? Bye-bye.
